This is wonderful!! Nya Nya is such a beautiful piece, a relative of the very old piece Lamban, but rarely played. And this performance is marvelous, understated and reminding me of the way this music was played 50 years ago!!!
I must confirm that listening to this piece some fifty years ago is something else. I witnessed that time and in a special way. Special in that my grandfather was a ruler and had so many griots like thus one here. As a grandson, I am always near him when they perform. My grandfather hailed from General Sanka Krubally who decided to come to the Gambia after participating in the wars in the then Manding. Getting into Gambia, he gave birth to my grandfather Jawru Krubally who eventually became a ruler. Subsequently handing over to his son Mahamadou Krubally. He too handed to his son Hame Minteh Krubally who is the current ruler in Basse Fuladu East. URR.
