I saw that I was the only one doing a real video on this knife, it's why I was eager to get this knife for both a great blade but also I wanted to set the precedent for testing this blade.
In addition to his fixed blade Nesmuck carried a small double bit hatchet and a pocket knife. He would have never used his fixed blade for processing wood for a fire. The actual knife was thin like a kitchen blade. Its shape is specifically designed for game processing and food preparation.
That’s probably true but I test knives to the fullest. I also carry an axe and a few blades when I go out myself. What’s nice is this knife can handle anything you throw at it
This is just a suggestion, when doing reverse chest pull cuts, anchor the blade away from you, and pull the woodback towards you. This greatly improves your control and leverage when hogging out the wood. Nice video, I enjoyed watching. P.S. : I too like the design and just ordered one myself.
The thickness is great it is 1/8. So not super thin but not too thick. If your gonna do a lot of abusive testing you might consider something with a thicker blade but if your gonna do mild abusive work and mostly common knife uses then this should be perfect
Thanks for the video. Any chance you have a 3hm? I am trying to decide between the 3hm and the JG5. I like the thin stock they share. One advantage I see of the 3hm is the hand can get closer to the sharpened edge to increase leverage when cutting. Any help would be great.
I might someday get the 3HM, however I just got the regular Esee3. I would say the JG5 would probably be overall more capable with the longer blade and sharpened spine, however I see what your saying with the 3HM and the ability to get your hand closer but I’m not sure if it’s that much closer that it would make an advantage. I do have plans on testing the 6HM and Junglas II before too long. Thanks for watching btw
Thanks for watching and commenting, I really like mine and plan to integrate it into my work more. Lately I’ve been focusing on my own knife design and trying to get Esee to potentially make a production model
Hey Thanks man, I personally Like the JG5 much better as it performs most common knife tasks much better. I will say the Laser Strike is still a great knife for I have them both and have done reviews of both. It would also make a better tactical knife for military/LE if thats what your using it for but for everything else, it's the JG5.

However having messed with both the JG5 and PR4, the JG5 is one of my favorite knives in general and I have literally dozens of knives so take that for what it’s worth.

Well welcome to the Esee club, I’m sure it won’t be your only Esee too. At one point I had almost every model but found myself having to thin some out just to make room for more gear and stuff.
I’ve never heard of them but that knife looks really nice. I little out of my preferred price range for the materials used and to be honest I’m not super excited about D2 steel, it’s generally too brittle. Thanks for the suggestion. At the moment I’m trying to get my own knife design to kickoff
I have no idea, but I really like this one. I actually designed a Seax style knife and have submitted it to Esee several times. I think that would be cool because how many modern interpretations are there if a Seax knife. I never get a reply out of them anymore
Yea it’s why I pretty much take it out entirely of most new videos, I will set it at like 15% and it still is overwhelming. I don’t know if it’s my program or rendering that does it. Thanks for watching regardless

Brisa nessmuk is a good & direct competitor to the esee.
Scandi grind
80CRV2 carbon steel
Micarta or stabilised wood
Leather sheath
I’ll have to check it out
