Your theory is interesting, but It makes more sense for titans to have gone through overhauls and redesigns as new technology arises. The only major difference between the Original Titans was their loadouts, which were determined by the player. This falls in line with old weapons design theory. You manufacture a general template model and then modify it with performance parts later. This is good for general purposes, but you can't really build specialization models out of a general template.
Military convention teaches us that you don't buy a rifle because its the best, you buy it because it's cheap and it does what you want it to do. The Old Titans fit this mold. Titans are a new weapons system and you immediately notice you'll need a light recon platform, your general service platform, and a platform to carry your heavier weapons. Thus they make an immediate impact on the battlefield. This is the case in WWII where you see the USA and RAF using older aircraft that still service but are technologically inferior to the enemy aircraft. As the war progresses, need for more specialized or superior Aircraft enter the field.
Thus the next generation of Titans is born. Technologies that have come about in the war and a need for unique systems comes about. Core development leads to specialization. The change to a battery based shield system is based off of the needs of pilots and fast moving military forces (including mercenaries) who can't maintain bases, ships etc to maintain these more complicated systems. Each of the current generation of titans is designated for a specific role.
Ronin - A fast moving flanking variant. This titan was designed to be used during major warfare as a scouting role/flanker in large scale battles. It's maneuverability is critical for commanders, because its a piece you can use to push your opponent out of position and/or quickly inflict damage on openings.
Northstar - A recon specialist and light weight frame developed for aerial superiority. I would assume that titans can deal with fast moving aircraft, and or they are resistant to aerial attacks, Northstar is developed as sort of a long range Air Superiority specialists. It's movements enable it to find angles for difficult shots, to pin down the opposition with precision fire. Not unlike a DMR.
Tone + Ion - Generalist platforms you use in mass. these two would make up the bulk of your forces, due to their load out and ease of use (doesn't take a great pilot to perform in these, as long as they are breathing they can put rounds on the target). With no special functions they are the perfect grunts. Better still, they're is no need to complicate your supply chain when all of your Titans use the same ammunition. Ion takes this a step further by using laser technology as it's major source of damage.
Scorch + Legion = there are to reasons for heavy weapons platforms. you need to break through the enemies defenses, or you need to supress them with sustained fire. These two fit the bill without the need of letting your pilots choose what weapons they want.
This gives us two advantages strategically. No need to complicate your supply chain with pilots saying "you sent me 120mm ammo, i use a 30mm cannon" or "I don't use rockets, i launch missles. Now you can simply allot supplies based of the frame names. Given X amount of Tones, Legions, Etc..I can more easily allot our resources without complicated lists and resources.
Second advantage, easier to swap pilots to titans for battlefield strategy. Did you lose your titan? no problem, I got a tone or a legion to drop for you (I know that in the game, it's Our titan but lets be honest, no miltary is going to say hey, this is yours do what you want). This makes manpower and pilot specialization an easier on Military Organization.
Prime titans are the next step of that. While in game, they are the same as the old titans, with a look you can easily see they are Mark II variants. They are the next step, Kinda like a F-15D model being superior to a F-15A. The F-15 has upgraded technology but is the same platform. SOme titans boost more armor, or have better forms conducive to their design.
Vanguards are a case of what happens when a military force gets to have direct control over what they are looking for in a Titan. The versatility factor is huge, but something only special forces would want or need. BT is literally one of the first of these new models and his design is based off of a need for Militia pilots whom no doubt have a weaker supply infrastructure to be able to rearm and resupply in the field based off of what you have on hand.

i have a theory about prime titans. In the single player campaign trailer he stated the titans where used for agricultural or industrial purposes, so during the time of war Hamon Robotics or Vinson Dynamics miltarized the titans by simply giving them weapons. The as the war progressed they created the Prime Titans which are better built and more effective at war than the regular titans, but they come at a cost thats may be to high for certain pilots so they stick to they're old titans hence why u dont see a lot if prime titans in multiplayer

My personal theory is this; The titans in titanfall 2 are basically specialized variations of the titanfall 1 titans, and double as equipment test beds that entered into limited production. Each titanfall 2 titan appears to basically be serving as a test bench for new tech, and as such, is modified from the original titans to improve that usage. It's likely that there is some hope to potentially integrate these features into baseline production samples of the base titans. These eventual titan's will likely form the next full production generation.
Scorch is intended to test thermal ordinance and equipment, and is built accordingly. Do to the inherent risks associated with working with such high temperatures, the ogre was chosen as the baseline test bench thanks to it's superior ability to withstand damage from it's own flames. This also explains the dedicated weapon system as being do to it's fire based combat design testing. The development of the cannon itself was likely contracted out to Vinson Dynamics.
Legion is designed as a test bench for the new predator cannon system, which requires an unusually high amount of power and processing to use, not to mention a high weight capacity. As such, the ogre chassis was chosen thanks to its superior weight capacity allowing for the installation of the additional equipment and refits. Do to testing of the new weapon system, the Legion testbed was only authorized to carry the predator cannon.
Ronin is designed to test a new CQC system set, which was seen as being most practical to be refitted to the strider, given the units natural mobility. However, the added weight required the removal of the originals defensive equipment, such as it's vortex shield. Do to the close range focus of the design, the leadwall was chosen as a way of improving its close quarters ability. Much like scorch, part of Ronins development was outsourced to Vinson Dynamics.
Northstar is meant to test the possibility of flight controls for titans, and as such, required a lightweight frame, which naturally made the strider chassis desirable. Much like the ronin modifications, the added equipment stressed the titans weight and power limits, forcing the removal of defensive equipment. While technically not required to field the plasma rail gun, its anti-armour power and fast projectile speed were seen as being useful for it's intended role, leading to it's standardization.
Ion was intended to test a new laser weapons system, and a new energy delivery system for the titans. These features required a somewhat extensive overhaul of the basic frame. The Atlas titan, being the oldest model on the frontier, is no stranger to refits and upgrades for service. This adaptability, and the ample space on the chest to install the new laser array meant that the atlas was the immediate choice for refitting. These changes are comparatively light weight, leading to Ion retaining more of it's original features, like the vortex shield. It's new rifle is an extension of this, being a new weapon designed to take advantage of the new integrated power delivery system.
Tone is similar to ion in this sense. Tone is intended to test a new ordinance guidance system for anti-titan combat. The 40mm cannon was chosen as a key feature of this renovation, as it's shells provided the needed space to fit the new targeting components. Much like ion, the adaptability of the atlas titan made it the proffered test bench. The rocket system wasn't weight intensive, so it wouldn't require an ogre to mount, and the ease of modification of the atlas made it the proffered template.
The Primes are similar in this sense. Most of the prime titan's are secondary prototypes of the basic modification packages, and more likely, second generation prototypes. The main focus of these second generation prototypes is to improve the integration of the original modifications, though the success of these second generation prototypes varies. Once it was realized that the heavier equipment alterations of the prime units could be integrated back into the original, lesser modified test beds, such alterations were made.
Now. Vanguard. The vanguard class is a militia developed titan design, loosely based on the old atlas frame. These titans were built for recon, with a heavy focus on longevity that lead to an emphasis on being able to be maintained easily in the field. To this end, the vanguard is designed with a sort of scavenging capability, allowing it to fit certain components from other titan's, namely new servo, targeting, electrical, and hydraulic systems. As a result, the vanguard is capable of being refitted with features of the test bench titans. However, for the vanguard to have achieved it's adaptable nature, it's frame had to built using high strength, low weight alloys. This escalated the cost and complexity of the vanguard drastically, leading to it only being in service with select units, as it's none replaceable components are extremely difficult to make.
Monarch, as stated in official sources, is based off of various wrecks of vanguard titans that the IMC recovered. While monarch lacks many of the vanguards more adaptable features, it is far better suited for production. When an early test batch was stolen, the militia was able to reverse engineer the changes to the vanguard that the IMC had made, allowing them to begin production of their own monarch units.
This also leads into the apex predators. At least some of the titan's fielded by the apex predators in the campaign are essentially the newest prototypes of the new test bench units. In particular, viper's unit in a newer development of the northstar, that has had it's flight goals be properly realized. However, the design does likely still have some bugs to work out. Regardless, it's usage indicates that the specialized test benches are showing progress.
To be clear, the original titan models are still in regular production. These specialized units are merely field refits of the existing production units, and these refits are still very much in an in development state by the IMC. They are only being fielded on an as available basis by the militia of captured and or reproduced modification packages.
And that is my basic theory on the origin of the various units in titanfall 2, and the reason for their development.

One factor you forgot was the patches. You can see two very intresting titans on the 'titanfall Z' and 'war of the titans' patches; an ion with an XO-15 chaingun, and a ton in with a predator cannon. However, the ion is using laser core in the titanfall Z patch, denoting it is a functional ion, not simply an Atlas that looks like an ion. Though, I have a theory; ion was originally a mining titan. Everything about her design is optimal for mining; a shoulder mounted laser to cut away rock, a shield that catches things at a low velocity and throws them away at a higher velocity, for disposing of uneeded rock, and a heavier laser beam for more heavy work. Now, the one out of place ability is the tripwire, but then again, the tripwire always appears to be tacked on; it's the only ability that doesn't depend on energy, and it's the only ability that isn't visible on the chassis.

I think Gen II Titans were created in response to the IMC's resource crisis after Demeter was destroyed. See... Atlas, Stryder, and Ogre are way more practical than Gen II Titans. They're way faster, way more durable, had energy shields, and way more customizable in terms of class layout (albeit certain Titans work better with certain weapons). Sure, their cores aren't nearly as much of a game changer as the Gen IIs, but they're still applicable.
Gen IIs were created as the resource crisis due more severe. The advanced features that Pilots expected had to be removed due to a need to produce cheaper Titans that could be easily manufactured in mass.
That being said, while these new chassis were quite a bit weaker, they were given highly advanced cores to help make them more viable. They were also more situational, allowing Pilots to pick a Titan based personally on their piloting style.
Stryder Pilots would naturally transition to Ronin and Northstar, for example, as those two Titans represent the two main play styles people went with when using a Stryder.
It also gave Pilots the ability to better personalize their Titans in an effort to boost morale. The stoic paint jobs of old were replaced with unique color schemes based on the Pilot's interests.

Stryder couldn't be used as transport because it has a one person carrying capacity. Stryder could maybe be seen along side those Atlases in the farm, but I don't know.

Well my theory on what happened to the old titans:
In the SP campaign intro it shows the original Atlas titan working on farmland. So perhaps the rest of the titans took up more job-like roles instead of combat ones. So Atlas, the all-around stat wise titan was chosen for farming and presumably construction jobs.
But the Stryder and Ogre were nowhere to be seen farming. They were obviously chosen to do different jobs or were trashed. Now, from here it's anyone's guess as to where those chassis went. I think it's it's safe to say the stryders became a delivery service and maybe assisted travel due to their speed. And for the Ogres, they probably went to work in factories and did more of the dirty work.

I think the old generation is now used to train new pilots, in war games you can see a grunt in an ogre before the match startes.
Also i think the reason that new titans have the same loadout is to simplify resource management, for example imagine someone who needs x type of ammo and they give him an other type of ammo because they dont know witch kind of ammo he need, if everyone has the same loadout they will know.

AdamFra they have infinite ammo cause it’s a video game, but lore wise it does make sense to simplify production to make it cheaper and easier, since war’s are very expensive anyway, and it also helps with logistics, so if a army has x number of x Titans, you don’t need to fafth about with what weapons each one has you just need to know what type of titans are in play and send the correct supplies

In the backstory, Titans were used for a lot of civilian jobs before the war. Since it is Jack narrating, I was under the impression that the farming scene took place before the war and militarization of titans when he was younger. since the backstory puts them as a civilian technology, they likely saw it more as a 25 ton farming machine before the war, and then gave it a big gun when the war came.

  • @thatorangeguy3646
    @thatorangeguy3646 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The "original titans from the first game where farming/agricultural equipment. Essentially giant machines that can walk all over agriculture areas with uneven terrain. While the cupola(the top hatch with little windows on the atlas) seems militaristic for a colony world, a sturdy machine that could be beaten up by creatures, falling trees, and other hazards would prove needed for the near lawless frontier.
When the war for the frontier broke out conventional military vehicles were not present. So farming vehicles where made into "technicals" similair to toyatas having guns slapped into the bed.
Titans clearly were usefull weapons of war, for both mercenaries and none frontline dutys, finding a place alongside tanks in the military, and as mercenary vehicles.
Hammond robotics would quickly desighn a new titan, the ogre. Being clearly up armoured. Alongside this i would assume the strider and the weapons titans use would also be desighned or refined from reporposed weapons used earlier.(think setting a trigger system for hmg's for titan hands)
along with the specialised titan sized bags to hold ammunition and other items.
The Militia would steal a large sum of equipment from hammond robotics/ the IMC including factory ships capable of producing titans
    (as seen in the games)
This is how the titans of the first game started out. The atlas being the first as a large multi role machine, and the strider and ogre being specifically developed for war in place of tanks apc's etc.
By the time the second game comes about titans are more than repurposed farm vehicles. With specific models and doctrines based off of the first three they became proper parts of a military.
The prime titans are the same. Being the next evolution of the six "new" titans. The old ones would be sold off/ scrapped or used by backwater agencys/civilians who either caint afford. Or dont need military titans. As such only small amounts of the original three would still be made for the agricultural/ civilian market.
Monarch would be the last titan currently desighned and put into mass production. Being a militia made titan the IMC/hammond would need to steal it and its desighn plans from the militia instead to produce this. Something they have either now done or are still trying to do.

My idea about the difference between 1 and 2 (tho it doesnt explain prime titans) was that the OG titans werent meant for combat. Originally they were farming and construction machines (believe this is confirmed) but the militia had to retrofit to fight the IMC. As the IMC got more and more worse for wear, they did the same. Eventually (hammond and vinson) were on the frontier and producing combat specific titans that fill specific roles (northstar is sniper, Scorch is demo, and legion is like a walking turret).

  • @daedalus8939

After the second generation of titans was built, vision dynamics needed more raw material to test their titans and prime titans on, so they would trade and buy the older generation. But farmers would pay more for the older titans and also would often be retired militia riflemen and pilots, and would bring their older titans with them when the militia standardised in to just the vanguard titan.

  • @connordalton4553
    @connordalton4553 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My personal version of the titan theory is that the OG titans were replaced with second gen titans. These second gen titans were essentially scorch, tone, and ronin, but with the original generalist weapon options.
As the war continued, special mission kits were developed, and at around the time of titan fall 2, the third gen titan program was in the works by the IMC.
Scorch, tone, and ronin are titans with special mission kits. Ion and legion meanwhile, are prototype tech testbeds for the mk3 program. Northstar is an offshoot of the strider aimed to equip the airforce with a titan for ship boarding.
The apex titans represent further mk3 prototypes, with their heavily reinforced chassis being planned as standard for the mk3.
The primes are further armour developments of the current models and prototypes, aimed at figuring out optimal design configurations for the mk3.
Vanguard classes are essentially gen 2.5 titans, designed to be extremely modular in the field, hence their effectiveness.
Monarch was put into limited production for testing purposes by the IMC based on captured vanguard's, but the easier to produce design has quickly started to be adopted by the militia.

this is a pre-watch theory on what his theory will be, read this if you want, it's just here
if you play through both games, you should be able to realise that Titanfall 1 happens before Titanfall 2. so my theory (before watching) is that he's going to say that the strider, atlas and ogre are earlier versions that aren't purpose built (and purpose-built things are stronger) so in Titanfall 2 Hammond robotics probably said 'ok let's make them purpose built so they definitely do their job and are better' so they modified those chassis sets into various types and variations that fit the sorts of titans they'd need first, therefore making a huge group of purpose-built titans that are capable of doing their jobs way better because they are predictable and are designed SPECIFICALLY to do that - for example if you took a spoon and began using it as a fork that wouldn't really work well because it's supposed to scoop things up, not stab them, so if you apply this to Titanfall, your ogre might be equipped with a thermite launcher but it isn't purpose made for that so it's not going to do as well, because you're trying to use the spoon (which is the ogre) to stab through the thermite gear. so, Hammond robotics modified the ogre into the scorch so that it is now a metaphorically fork and it can stab through the thermite gear

My theory of the Titanfall 1 Titans and to what happened to them goes as followed.
So, we know that a new generation of Titans came out, in Titanfall 2, other than remaining to the basic 3 we had previously. Obviously, it's explained why and I will not go to that point.
Stryder, Atlas and Ogre were used after Titanfall 1 in 2, but for the only reason of doing lifting. Things that a normal human being would be unable. You'd ask why not produce new titans just for that? Or why not use the current titans?
Good question, you're full of good questions.
You see, if a new generation of titans were to come out, what would their purpose be? Lifting cargo and pushing things and doing stuff that the normal human would be unable to? No, not really. Newer titans were made to be used in battle, helping Civilians in anyway was out of the priority of the IMC. But for the Militia?
Lets backtrack a tiny bit. We have three titans. They are no longer in service. What would be the best way to get them in service, and sold? Make them Civilian grade titans. As to what extent where they sold is unknown. Stryder would most seemingly be the lowest in price, as it was rather lightweight. Who sold them? Seemingly both in my opinion. It'd be the easiest to get your hands on. Atlas? It's medium size, and most importantly, used by a farmer. The people who would sell the Atlas type titans would be the Militia. IMC would grow *NO* interest into selling titans for the civillians in such case, the Atlas. [But you jackass, you told us that IMC did sell titans!] I did, they sold Stryders. They also probably sold Ogres. But they found use for them in their facilities and factories, to do some *HEAVY* and I mean *HEAVY* lifting. Other than using cargo machines, they'd use Ogre, such as moving metal rods, and other big, heavier stuff. Like maybe even glass, and vents, etc etc. As thus, my theory ends.
    Thank you for reading.

Just saw this but wanted to give my theory about the titans. They are basically meant for things such as farming, construction and so on. But during the war when pilots are hard to train 90% mortality rate in training. They were used as way to help them out. WW2 Russia had to use tractors for tanks. If you think about it the titans couldn't be that well armored. Shooting at them in critical spot will do some damage. So any armor they do have be equal to lvl 3 steel plates today. This would tell me titans are basically light armor units for the actual most important thing the pilot.

I have a theory about mercenaries being playable instead of the normal soldiers in the prequel. I guess the IMC ranks became unstable and even Blisk left the IMC to work as a mercenary. So people on the Frontier hire pilots to work for them. The IMC to stabilize their troops and the Militia to organize themself better, that and increase their ranks.

I've noticed how so.e titans were just conversions of the original designs of the trio while others where straght new designs based of off the type of chassis that it was designed for. An example of conversion and brand new is Ion and tone (like every other titan) of you were to piggy back an Ion weather a friendly or not you can see thw little hatch thingy that you would pull of and shoot into in titan fall 1 and having a simpler design which can see by looking at its back while tone was designed around the atlas chassis it was a new design that Hammond robotics made.

    I always thought it looked more like this;
Gen 1; Atlas & Ogre (Scorch)
Gen 2; Stryder (Ronin & Northstar), Ion, Tone, & Legion.
    Gen 3; Vanguard, Monarch.
Each generation was continuously upgraded to remain competitive with the generations that followed. Altas Titans were already largely obsolete by Titanfall 1, and design cues were used in later designs. Ogres became obsolete for Titan v Titan combat, so they where used as a platform for terror weapons who’s psychological effects mattered far more than their actual combat potential. Namely, flamethrowers & napalm.
The Stryder was the first of the next generation, and refined as a light combat platform in the air (northstar) & on the ground (ronin). Heavier & heavier second generation Titans became available over time, culminating in the upright and all but immobile tank that was the Legion.
To further advance the technology, the Militia turned to a faster and lighter combat platform that could match the heaviest second generation Titans in armor & damage potential, as well as the lightest in speed, resulting in the Vanguard, and it’s derivative, the Monarch.
Prime titans are titans from previous generations upgraded with third generation technology. They’ve been ‘primed’ for modern combat, on battlefields that will soon be dominated by third generation titans.

Pretty sure respawn stated in some kind of lore that hammond made the new generation titans because it was 1- cheaper and easier to mass produce 2- their facility was destroyed so they couldn't go the more expensive very customizable choice

You can see an old ogre titan infront of you when you play in the start of war games just standing there

I agree with this theroy but maybe they use the old generations of titans for training on how to use without the use of a sim pod and also farming and building houses etc.

View the titan briefings and you’ll see the digital brochure numbers. Maybe the smallest number is the first titan and the biggest is the last one?

On the titan briefing it says for every titan except monarch that they are made by hammond robotics also Vinson dynamics made scorches gun but the Body was made by Hammond robotics.
