    Wow that is an amazing looking canoe. The very size, style, and look that I have been wanting for years. What a bonus that I can build it with my own two hands!

    Awsome work. I wonder why most videos with SOF canoes shows it with double paddles. Is there any problem with classic rowing on one side and use power stroke?

    Hi, I am in the process of building the Snowshoe 14, which I believe your canoe is. Fun build, and yours looks fantastic. The prints call for a 'keel' strip to go down the outside of the hull...I think the plans call for 1/4" x 1/2", same as the keelson...that scarf into the breakwaters on the ends. I notice that you did install/attach the breakwater, but didn't install the outer keel. Why did you decide not to install the outer keel? Thanks.

      This is a Nimrod stretched to 13. I was advised by the owner Larry to not install the keel. He said I could add it later if I chose to. The Keelson covers the seem and is definitely needed. It's a nice project, have fun.

    Hey very nice! I just finished mine… though I am at the stage of sealing the skin, so not quite finished. What did you use to seal it? I am currently planning on using the Helmsman spar varnish, but open to suggestions… what did you use?

    Can you kneel and paddle while remaining stable? Thanks!

    Is the canoe stable or tippy.Want to build one for fishing. Thank you for the building series.

      This one is very stable once you're in it. Until there is weight in the boat it's not easy to get into. Call and talk to Larry the owner, he's a big help.

    What is the depth in the middle of the boat. Thanks.

    My son is making a boat from 1/2" by 1/2" strips of wood (11 8 ft pieces) and butcher paper for the "skin", do you think Polyurethane is the best waterproof coating we can put on the paper to make it float? He has to sit in it and paddle the length of a swimming pool before the water seeps into the paper and sinks the boat..Thanks much

    • @BurningRiverBushcraft
      @BurningRiverBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably, but I wouldn't be comfortable with a paper skin. Let me know how it goes.

    • @wyattspop
      @wyattspop ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BurningRiverBushcraft We definitely aren't, butcher paper for skin, let alone a very limited amount is ridiculous, (as is 1/2" by 1/2" "sticks" for the Keel). My reason for reaching out to you is a hardcore boat builder on TH-cam told me to, as you do what's closest to my task with a canoe, You understand things like being in a small craft , water displacement, balance etc and I have no understanding of boating physics....continued

    • @wyattspop
      @wyattspop ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BurningRiverBushcraft How would we do this so the floor sticks don't break when he gets in? Do you think 4 ft long by 32" wide is good enough to balance? If we make it 5 ft (my original design) we will sacrifice 3 eight foot floor "beams" and I think we'll need every single one to keep it afloat. There will be a seam on the bottom of the butcher paper, would you use the Titebond III wood glue on this spot or just heavy coats of Polyurethane? I so appreciate your advice, I do realize you'd never make a boat out of paper, but your take on this is better than ours (-'/

      I had prints from Geodesic Airolite. You might want to follow a print for your first build. I may experiment with other hulls on my next boat.

    • @wyattspop
      @wyattspop ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BurningRiverBushcraft This is just to do an experiment for his Physics class, we have to make a boat with a hull made of butcher paper and some 1/2" wood strips, the challenge will be to make the paper waterproof with the Poly and keep the boat from sinking with just enough material to make only 1 foot high side-rails

    Believe it or not a friend called me up one from an insurance sale. He asked if I was interim buying a canoe with a canvas cover. Sight unseen I offered 300.00. Turned out to be a areolight. Sure an easier way to get this model, lol.
