Very nice and thought-out review! I actually relate to a lot of the points you made in this video. I bought my Nokia 9 when it *just* launched in Scandinavia, and I was very satisfied with it to begin with. The image quality at the time was on a whole new level, and it's still in the top tier to be honest! I only had some hiccups and freezing when using the cameras below 20% charge, and the battery life wasn't great, but it was nothing a tiny powerbank couldn't fix. At this point, a few years later, I still use it as a daily driver, but my opinions has changed a lot... As the battery has been worn, the camera freezes frequently at any charge below 60%, and because of the worn battery, it can drop from 100% to 70% within minutes after processing images and backing them up to Google Drive. This basically forces me to carry a powerbank at all times when trying to reliably take pictures. Not long ago, Nokia also announced they'd delay the Android 11 update to Q2 of 2021, and is potentially the last in line to receive this update within all of their recent Android flagships. I'd hoped Nokia would be able to redeem themselves by pushing out fixes and optimizations within 2020, but it's like they've entirely given up on the Nokia 9. A solution to the camera's reliability problem *could* be a battery change, but many devices has a flaw where an attempt to change the battery could lead to the display cable snapping. I'm not willing to spend a large sum of money to revive a phone with this little potential. It's unfortunate I feel this way, because I'm a person who tries to keep my expensive gear to live as long as possible, but the Nokia 9 simply dosen't seem worth the effort at this point.
Thank you! The software really lets the Nokia 9 down massively. I would love to see a remake with much better software and hardware but sadly that won't happen.

By the way I think maybe 9PV is one flagship in recent few years did not promote their camera technology with AI process.
Haha yeah. I believe the Nokia 9 does have a custom chip codeveloped by light but it's clearly not good enough. But yes, I do appreciate the natural colors. It's pictures are very close to professional cameras as opposed to the oversaturated mess by competitors.

I just got my nokia 9 pureview, its a nice phone , nice design but just like the other who got it. They have this complaint about finger print unlocking and picture processing that is taking too long. Still , as a nokia fan , I'm really happy to have one. One thing, can you tell me what app should I use to edit the pictures ? Is there a specific app for it?
Very fair criticisms Abdullah, but I've been using my Nokia 9 PV for over a year now and the speed (or lack of) when the phone takes a picture doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because I KNOW I'll be getting a great shot. What I have less patience with is how long it takes to stitch those 5 images together. I was hoping Nokia/HMD was going to improve on this technology as the pictures I capture are truly amazing, but it seems they are going to abandon this route. I would certainly have bought an updated version. No hesitation. The Nokia 9 Pureview makes me wait, but it's worth it.
I agree with you. The pictures always end up being amazing, and sadly we won't get to see a device like the Nokia 9 in the future. But its also clear to me that the concept has a lot of problems that need a lot of work to be fixed. On my Nokia 9, whenever the battery becomes lower than 50% the camera app gets stuck and makes using it very frustrating :(
I got it for a low price, and after watching this video I'm happy with my purchase. Contrary to the title, it was one of the most positive reviews of the phone I've seen.
I have had this phone since it's release and have been able to work around it's limitations to get the most from it's camera. There is a third option that can be utilized in addition to the HDR jpgs and RAW files that perfectly suits my needs. I tend to take photos of food and post them on my FB page and Google and found that the inherent HDR jpg process tends to make close ups of food look less than appetizing. Too much clarity and overall detail is not needed and can be a distraction. I experimented with third party apps and have had great success! I have found a sweet spot that has given me more flexibility to choose settings and to basically dummy up the over processing of the HDR jpgs in certain situations. The Open Camera App on Google Play was my answer. The info on shots taken with Open Camera say they are 8MP photos where as those taken with the Nokia program say 12MP. I don't exactly know which camera or how many cameras it utilizes to capture photos, it may only use one instead of all 5, but now I have a new choice in addition to HDR and RAW, it's my softened image sweet spot jpg. I hope this helps some of my Nokia Fan Boy brothers out there. The Nokia 9 Pureview camera system is now a flexible powerhouse of possibilities with no end in sight! Cheers!
@@AbdullaZaki This App is fast and dirty with no processing time due to the smaller file size. It gives you many tools you can't get in the OEM program.

Hello, first of all a wonderful review on the photographic part, really one of the best and certainly the most recent. I would like to ask you if it is worth moving from a Pixel 3a to this Nokia 9 Pureview, also if the automatic jpeg shots are still excellent and if they are at the level of the 3a (maybe you don't always need to take important shots). Thank you ;)
Thank you :) I would say it's not worth moving from the pixel 3a to the Nokia 9 unless you absolutely value the RAW editing and have a lot of patience. Otherwise for most people the pixel is a better phone. The Nokia 9 is notably faster in day to day tasks outside the camera though. In jpgs, the pixel takes better pictures 70% of the time. In anything except perfect conditions the pixel jpgs are better.
I love my Nokia 9, but to me I did not buy it to be a camera in any aspect, and honestly barely use the camera. In terms of software and performance it still holds up to this day as I am currently watching this video on it, and out of all of my phones since I bought this in 2019 I thought the Nokia was going to die first and this is the one that has survived the longest. The camera is basically unusable but in terms of just using it for any and all other Android tasks, it has been amazing as someone who often does fairly complex tasks uncommon to the normal Android user. I have left this phone on top of my car and then had it snow 3 1/2ft and found in the morning, it still holds up.

I was nearly going to buy a Nokia 7.2 until I went to the Nokia forums & read all the comments on that phone. Overall things are not looking good for HMD...

and it delivers on that promise, but they also need to make it accessible for regular consumers. I hope the 9.3 wont have the same camera software issues. It shouldn't.
I am waiting for nokia 9.3 pureview (successor of nokia 9 pureview)
#Beastiscoming
Me too, lets see!
Thank you! Very interesting. I see there's no longer live bokeh mode right?
No problem :) What do you mean by live bokeh? You can still change how much bokeh effect is applied to images after the image is taken
@@AbdullaZaki Thanks. I mean they've dropped the proper shooting mode for bokeh from camera UI. Not that is really needed anyway. Just curious. www.dpreview.com/news/6628310816/nokia-9-pureview-update-brings-live-bokeh-and-image-processing-boost
IlovedNokia ever since 😘♥️❤️
I bought it new, for 230€/260$. Does it worth that money or try to sell it to buy a middlerange Xiaomi phone?
for the money its an excellent phone.
Just ordered this (sep, 2020). I don't mind the fingerprint sensor, has any camera app issue been fixed with updates?
The issues still exist on my unit, but some people are saying late models have less camera issues. Good luck!
Arun stephen r u indian???
@@shlokapoojary5069 yes, I am.
Sony,Nokia,HTC....Iam sorry I don't trust any other company other than these...but it's sad that they don't release cheap phones at alll!! ...I prefer Sony's 1gb phone over Chinese 3gb phones .....I say this causr I have seen the quality and ram management which is amazing.....
Wish they release cheap phones too.... people still love these brands...
Thanks very much for this. I'm still using my PV 808. I decided to pass on the 9 and am waiting to see the 9.3.
You are welcome. Im also looking forward to the 9.3. Hopefully it lives up to the expectations
I have to disagree. Do buy it because it's a unique piece of tech that'll never be reproduced again. Light are going out of the SmartPhone market so the 9.2 or 3 will not be the same. Just bought one and this will proudly sit in my unique smartphone collection next to the 808, 1020, 950, yotaphone 2 and Xperia play.
For those of us who love collecting phones, it makes sense. For most people, they will be more frustrated than delighted. I bought it personally for its unique character.
@@AbdullaZaki Definitely. I missed out on the chance to buy a Panasonic Lumix cm1 - another unique phone with a full sized sensor. Probably will never find one in the wild
Waste of money.
@@vicentegeonix well I just received mine yesterday. Appears brand new. For 240 pounds. In my eyes definitely not a complete waste!
There is a 9.3 coming maybe! I really look forward to that
So do I. Lets see what they come up with
I think this camera system needed much more time for development and optimization. Feels HMD rushed with the Nokia 9, and they even cannot deliver proper software optimization with the Android One.
I agree completely. But they were running out of time especially since it was using an older processor. I'm glad they released it but they should have done better behind the scenes.
Nice review brother....
One question I read somewhere in raw image nokia 9 capture almost zero noise even in light is it true bro...can u send me auto low light raw image of Nokia 9?
The auto jpegs at night on the Nokia 9 are really terrible. You have to use manual mode. Full of noise, so much lost details, weird green tint. That is of course in very dark conditions. If there is a bit of light, the pictures turn out nicely.
@@AbdullaZaki bro..i am asking in raw image..i read in raw of night there is zero noise..hmd use some kind of different proccesing in raw night images..
Not true, even the RAW images in auto mode aren't good.
Could you suggest me a stable gcam for Nokia 6.1 Plus
If you are running on Android 10, I would suggest googling " best gcam for nokia android 10". I would go for version 7.2 or 7.3 on cyanogenmod
Just remember, the 9PV was a limited run by Nokia. It's like the E60 M5 of camera phones.
Perhaps part of the problem is that Samsung and Apple can pour money into R&D and HMD cannot afford to spend enough money to optimise their phones. I was nearly going to buy a Nokia 7.2 until I went to the Nokia forums & read all the comments on that phone. Overall things are not looking good for HMD...
I agree. Although people on forums are only there to complain haha. People who are happy would usually use their phones in peace. Thats why I don't usually take everything said online as 100%. Sell enough phones and there are bound to be issues here and there.
I honestly want to buy one 😅
I don't blame you. It will become a collectors item, probably :)
yeah, and I want to test it's camera's capabilities
Or maybe buy a new or used DSLR camera that will work every time, as would an iPhone SE..
So is not worth it then?
It's a collectors phone with many limitations and frustrations. If you understand those then you'll be okay
How about a review of Nokia 7+ sir?..
Thanks..✌️
I plan on reviewing all new Nokia devices moving forward :) Most of my current reviews are of phones I own.
I hope you'll make a latest video of this phone 🙃
I hope the bug is fixed right now
The bugs will never be fixed on this phone :(
@@AbdullaZaki why not?
The camera system is flawed. The rest of the phone is fine.
@@AbdullaZaki I sent mine for warranty because it has this camera locking bug below 50%
it's been almost 3 weeks. I wait for the result.
I just don't expect them to open the phone and make it unusable, and then give me a new lol
The only solution for this problem is to get a new one... Its an issue with the construction of the camera setup and how much power it uses. I don't know if the newer version of the 9 fixed this
Will I really like it the pictures can go head to head with the note 20 the Issues I have with it is the battery life and it takes time to process the pictures
Best phone for pictures even it's not the best overall phone.
arghh.. what should I say, everything was superb until I need to replace the battery....so sad that I may have to leave Nokia product line
Nokia = Freeze
Since Symbian. They never change. LMAO
Haha, that's harsh. I've had plenty of symbian phones that didn't freeze at all
@@AbdullaZaki Lucky you. My only good Symbian is QD 🤣
Nokia very good product
Poor optimization in the stock android UI like most Nokia phones the stock UI is lagging due to Nokia not optimizing the UI you would think they would fix this problem by now but unfortunately not this brand like their phones is a epic fail it's a shame poor Nokia RIP
To be fair, they tend to fix optimization issues after launch. As a phone, its quite solid, but the camera is unreliable.
@@AbdullaZaki it's unfortunate I had a few Nokia phone's recently but their performance is not up to speed compared to other brands with the same processor it should be fast UI because it's stock android but lagging issues persist even with 6gig ram disappointed with this slow performance
Love ❤️ Nokia
❤❤❤💓
i have this 🌚
and do you agree with my assessment?
@@AbdullaZaki I do not know relatively recently came an update that improved everything and storage configuration when activating the storage manager becomes more fluid
@@alberthmoreira91 Abdulla, have you updated yours? Still got those bugs?) Damn im thinking whether i should buy it or not.
I used to have nokia 1020 but it was really slow and buggy, slow autofocus, and software overall. Then i switched to nokia 808 and loved it so much! Still use it as daylight camera and voice recorder. Also taking great bw “street” pictures using flash when im in club or some other dark place lol)) But i really wanna make fast spontaneous photos of random people on streets also some pics in low light (without the flash). So im looking for some good camera with fast autofocus and strong sensor for low light photo or fast moving objects...
@@yurypisar347 then better buy the Nokia 8.3 has a better camera than the Nokia 9 or the Huawei p30 pro or a Xiaomi mi 10 those are good
