Years later, an archaeological expedition to Fighting Spirit later uncovered a battle site littered with the remains of broken gauss rifles, split shields, and the bodies of 8 marines and 9 medics. In a semicircle around the remains were countless Zerg drone, zergling, and hydralisk corpses. Historians and documentation of the time period suggest that this was likely one of the greatest last stands in the history of the Terran race. A show of true fighting spirit.
Yep and next to the remains is a citadel of adun that was built to commemorate the fallen marines and every terran citizen gets a day off just like anzac day.
Hmm :) I hadn't watched a Starcraft 1 game in a long time, a few years at least. Cool to see :) I hope you're enjoying playing Starcraft 1 Artosis, and doing well at GSL. I hope you can establish a strong following to support you and your family long-term.
Yeah it is. I wish he would stop irradiating ultras when they are fighting rines though. It is a buff to them. I prefer vessel eraser like he sometimes did this game, and d mattix is a great option too.
Imagine sparing spire while you were literally 1 click away from destroying it. Saves you a lot of vessels at critical moment after erasing zerg's main. They'd have become virtually invurnerable for like 1+ minute - you can just fly and kill all his drones.
there are hundreds of decisions to be made every few seconds in starcraft.. i'm sure if he had realized it was nearly dead he would've finished the job. the spire is a very valuable structure to kill cuz of its huge build time.
TheVanillatech wow that escalated quickly! Lol... um, if you re-read his comment he is merely saying that there are hundreds of decisions to be made in short period of time, which is true, not that that someone is actually making hundreds of decisions per second. I think you completely missed his point (which was clear) in that arty did not likely realize that the spire was still up and an easy kill due to amount of APM required in general. Also, just because you see the spire doesnt mean he did, spec’ing the game and playing are completely different, we dont know what the mind was able to interpret/register in that moment. Just chill dude lol.
@@pmcccar No, he said HUNDREDS of decision every FEW SECONDS. It's right there in his comment, go take a look! It's like saying that Artosis made a mistake because only a god would have been able to make all those decisions - damn straight! That's why RTS games are interesting because not even AI programmed by hundreds of people and running on supercomputers can even hope to be perfectly efficient at decision making in a game. Look at the work done on Starcraft AI's by universities and hobbyists. Hundreds of decisions every few seconds? Get real, like I said. It's all good shilling for your game, but keep things real here. The only thing that makes playing SC2 worthwhile against humans is that you can be sure that, give or take a couple of percent, your opponent has the same propensity for making errors that YOU do. Otherwise it would be boring. But luck is a huge factor and as such the skillcap of SC2 (and any RTS) is pretty chaotic at best. For instance, I could train your 80 year old grandmother to build a certain order of structures and units on a certain place in the map and she could get herself to plat and even potentially beat a pro if her proxy wasn't detected. Understand? Games that your granny can beat you on have to have a luck factor which is big enough to totally decide the outcome of the game by itself. Building those proxies takes less than 100 clicks too. Just sayin...
My point is that killing spire is not any decision, but a very important within the context of this exact match. It hurted me (as well as Artosis himself I believe) to see how many vessels he's been loosing before the moment he's got to zerg's main. And then for whatever reason he just didn't kill it - but did so with Hive and Ultralisk cavern. That I believe to be one of the most important reasons he has lost this game.
Dude! You played soooooo well that game. If you had just kept a few tanks at your mining expos like you sometimes did at your second main, you would have won. Such good irradiating and eraser usage. Such good tank usage to effectively fight ultras, decent expanding, godly macro. You just needed a couple spread tanks with sim city at 12 and more consistently at the second main and natural, and you would have been able to produce through the wear down of the zerg towards the end. I wish I could play that well in such a long game. I have been thonking lately that vessel eraser is a good counter to ultras. You can stack them, and unlike iradiating ultras, you can keep from getting your own rines irradiated. I’m glad you did it this game. I want to see you try stacking 3 irradiated vessels, maybe even with a trapped scv for better stacking, and use them to decimate ultras as they path around your rines. 3 irradiated vessels can kill an ultra by themselves if they managae to stay above it since irradiate stacks. I always thought eraser vs zerg is under-itilized. People only seem to try to get drones with eraser and nowadays, zerg almost always has burrow and it becomes useless. But you can’t burrow your ultras next to 3 groups of mm, so it is perfect to foght ultra-ling. Lings instantly pop while under 3 stacked irradiated vessels too. You can also park them above burrowed lurks before forcing an unburrow with a tank out of their range; as soon as they unburrow to run, they take mad damage. You can d matrix the vessels too and make them use more scourge. And OMG dude, the emp on the defilers was SICK! You dis so many thing la that I though would help your gake and it really showed. Your TvZ seems like it is bursting into a new level.
you are right - it was a BIG mistake. If Spire was razed the production for scourges would be cut for 2 minutes and chances for a win would increase be increased significantly. I dunno why Artosis didnt kill the spire.
Best part of this video: @20:45 the mini micro battle between these two. They have the industry to max out and have been sending massive forces at each other, then something as simple as winning a small stand off of leftover units becomes 90% of these two's energy and brain power.
Wooo that was a good game. Very exiting to watch. Makes me wish I wasn't absolutely trash at the game these days, not that I was very good even in my active years, but still!
This is a good death. There's no shame in this, in a man's death. A man who's done fine works. We're making a better world. All of them, better worlds.
why doesnt terran mix in goliaths in the mass bio? They'd be great vs muta's, they're bulky vs Lurker, they melt hydra's and can bodyblock Ultralisks They're only a little weak to zerglings, but the mass bio covers that So the question is, why not Goliaths?
Would an infantry/goliath/sciencevessel composition have helped in this match in the earlier parts instead of the tank/infantry/sciencevessel composition the tanks seem to often be destroyed by mutas when they are in the field in pro games I have watched?
And noting how the zerg never build any spore colonies, attacking them with a combination of crapload of wraiths and crapload of tanks would do the job too, I guess
Gols are not worth adding to mm. Tanks are a way better addition because they can splash under dark swarm and outrange sunks and lurks. You can do gol+ tank, but you have to start with almost pure gol to do it that way.
Damn you were playing really good at the end there, the emp+irradiate on defilers were on point, and while I'm still eh on your marine micro, for some reason you're able to position medics extremely well
Yeah, his rine micro needs work. He has it down vs muta, but vs ultra or lurk, it is very lacking. Even my mm micro is better in those scenarios, but my macro and multitasking is shit.
Great game! but i think you were too tied down by the mutalisks. Better turret positioning and combating pesky mutas is to actually push out with your med ball early and prevent them from getting 3 gas (3rd base), most likely if he pumped that many mutas early, his natural was very vulnerable as you saw with scan around 7:48 into the video.(probably no lurkers and 0 sunken at his nautral) if he was pressured with the bio ball, instead of playing into his hand of balling up and letting the zerg macro up, the game wouldve ended differently
It’s hard to move out vs mutas early on. They can wear you down 1 volley at a time. I think his mistake in early mid game was engaging the mutaling with only 1/2 his rines and not microing back to join his 2 rine armies. I think he could have killed the mutas ling and had rines left over and THEN he can power up a bit and push the natural.
The end was sad because I believe hje deserved the win, maybe if we cared more about 12' base we could have it, but usually I come to these clips to laugh at Artosis' expense, however this game was awesome. Played the best I've seen him play by a mile, actually way better than the usual S rank game, was REALLY impressive. Sad to see him lose, totally deserved the win until the final minutes.
Nice to see som good old BW, But how does that ranking system works? 2382 points? what does that equal in SC2 Eu mmr? is this like facing a 6.7-8k Zerg in EU? and who is ranked #1? So much questions :D

As a noob to SC, wouldnt arty do better by mixing tanks with marines? 30 (+upgrades) damage per shot vs 1 damage per burst from a marine? M&Ms with tanks would (imo) beat ultras and lings.

24:00 is it a good idea to catch zerglings on ramp with irradiated science vessel in situations like this?
Its a waste since they move fast and hardly take damage and they easily to marines anyway
If you stack 2 vessels with irradiate it becomes worth it. The lings can only be ised for banana bread after they walk under 2 irradiates.
And you can always reposition them after the lings run under. If you chase them down the ramp, huge clumps will die.
