Definitely a big plus for pentax, i bought a K20D as soon as it got out and i am still stunned on the IQ, great sensor. This K-7 will sure among other things bring some sports photographers back to pentax. But im stunned with the price, great job pentax!!!!!
@AETrainingDavid97 I would say unless you work extensively with video and have very specific requirements for 1080p, Blu-Ray disc creation or similar video-sharing requirements (or the disposable income), the K-7 is going to be an outstanding cost-performance ratio that’s tough to beat.
@AETrainingDavid97 Yes, the K-7 is extremely well built, great image quality, weather seals, etc., but has 720p video. The 7D is also a great camera, but also very, very expensive. There is also the option of the new PENTAX K-5, which should be shipping soon. It’s built on the K-7 conceptually, but highly refined, incredible noise performance, higher resolution, new autofocus, and more… and it has 1080p video! But it’s also more expensive (e.g. $1599 body vs the $1699 body 7D).
this looks great...I am currently shooting with an Oly E-330 and since olympus is unable to make a normal size camera with a decent viewfinder and video mode, the K-7 looks very attractive...if only the glass could be Zuiko quality !
That definitely does seem like a very nice camera. I would like to see Pentax grow in popularity, and the k-7 hopefully will help that. I have two k10d cameras and am a little stuck with a mindset that I should use them till they fall apart = 10 years. Is that an unusual mind set? How long do most people keep their DSLR before buying another?
what do you mean? Pentax has the smallest primes in the market, that fit this camera like a globe. They also have sealed DA* lenses (though these are bigger and in my opinion wouldn't be well balanced in this camera) and a very good, digital optimized lens range.
Actually, the media at large loves to see competition. The worst thing for them is number of manufacturers decreasing as there is less innovation. Much of this kind of criticism is in the mind of the beholder.
It a different battery and grip. The camera is a different size, so not the same grip, and the battery has a higher capacity than that for the K20D and K10D.
Fantastic! More features than any other camera in its range, or even higher range. I have an Alpha 900, which I would consider higher range than the K7, however, the A900 doesn't have that many features. I am especially amazed with combining one picture with three exposures (HDR). I mean, you don't need gradient filters anymore. Even Pentax K-x can do that. I don't think that the flagship Sony can do that... And then you have the lens distortion correcton, this is really amazing!
@SuperXU1 Keep in mind that the D90 is a very old camera. The K-7 has really good image quality, and I’m sure the D90 does as well. However, if you want to get a camera that is “the one” for a good while, you might want to invest on the forefront of technology. We also just introduced a brand new camera, the K-5, which has 14 bit RAW files, deep ISO range, and should be an OUTSTANDING performer for image quality. Should be available later in October . Check it out. =)
I have to buy a pro camera. I was planning for D300s as I have used D90 before. I really like it. After watching this video I am very much impressed with Pentax k-7. I really want to use it but dont know if I will like it or not. Do you have any other information that will help me make a decision. Thanks.
Hi All, a friend of mine has a K10D and has tried shooting under water in a swimming pool. He dip it in and took a shot and pull it out of the water - the camera has no issue of water getting inside. Off course he used the WR lens which has a rubber seal at the base of the mount. Btw, he is also a camera tech so if anything goes wrong he would be able to fix it. :-) So with the K7 , shud be no problem getting wet with the WR lens.
The Canon T1i can record up to 18 minutes of 720p. There's a 4GB limit per clip on that camera you can't record any longer than that in one take on the T1i. The web claims that the Pentax K-7 will record "just under 20 minutes" of 720p on an 8GB card...possibly Pentax has the same restriction (I can't imagine their files would be double the size, the T1i uses standard H.264 compression).
@AETrainingDavid97 Right now I am totally in love with my Lumix G2 - but next year I will purchase a new camera. After looking at soooo many cameras and comparing prices and features it will be a Pentax, maybe K7 or K5. 'kay, if the 60D will become cheaper I'll think of a Canon. But the sealing of the Pentax is unique...
Great Product Love the innovations especially: The in-camera body image stabilization, unlike this cam I had to buy the bulky and expensive Nikon IS equipped lenses. Wonder how effective this IS compared with the Nikon or Canon's. Love the "Custom Image processing" software. Love the in-camera distortion correction. Only thing I wish this camera had was a Swivel LCD like the new Nikon D5000's.
The K-7 is weather resistant. Pentax has never claimed waterproof. This means the camera will withstand rain, snow, fog and dust. However, you cannot submerge the camera.
Pentax, please include an option in the firmware/menu to make the directional buttons default to selecting AF-point rather than giving direct access to less frequently used functions. Vote to support. 8o)
Not really... Pentax has some really really great lenses. Limited primes with some of the best image quality available, weather resistant, great optics...

Well done presentation. More over kudos to Pentax!
This sounds like K-7 will be the best prosumer camera of 2009!

We considered shooting with the new camera, but were up against a time crunch, and not having final quality samples.
@aniruddh02 The K-7 has weather sealing and a magnesium alloy body, shake reduction built into the body which works with any Pentax lens.
I need this camera. my K20D is superb but this takes everything to the next level

Wow! Maybe this is the best review seen on youtube!

looks pretty nice, any numbers on the bitrate for video capture mode? it would be nice if it did 24fps too.

Please upload this video in HD:)

Ordered my K-7 this morning from Pentax USA :)
Great presentation, well done sir!
Favorited and 5 Star-rated :D
I own a Nikon D80, and this looks awesome.

I am AMAZED at this camera! The d90 can consider itself usurped!
The layout of the controls doesn't look terribly different from my system; would be a fun camera to use sometime. Thanks for the vid!
@sanchopanza123 30 minutes at a time. This is also card dependent. A faster speed, higher capacity card will do the best job.

Can't wait.. Anyone want to buy my Canon 50D. I owned Pentax 644AF and loved it. As soon as I sell my 50D I'm buying IT!
I'd like to see some hd footage of this camera.
Got one....best DSLR i've ever had.

Wow can't wait!

Awesome Camera, sure would like to swap my K10D for it.
me too! i hope they will offer some rebate for us, customer ;)
@shawnthesh33p did you get to buy it? is it good?
Hi, how long can hd video recording go for...? I guess it depends on the memory cards... thks
Oh! Cool!!!
I like PENTAX.

Awesome!
Go Pentax, Go!
AVCHD deteriorates images while panning and shooting fast moving objects. MJPEG is a best alternative. But i look forward to see some samples as well

It is... -_-
Limited lenses
DA*
FA*
What else do you possibly need? I am sure that Pentax offers similar lenses that Olympus offers
Moving the sensor? Holy crap!
Grossartige Kamera! Die sicherlich z.Z. beste Reflex für unter 1.500,- Euro.
how much is the crop factor ?
MJPEG Keeps image quality, AVCHD deteriorates it, when you edit you have to decode to encode again. More deteriorationy...
@seriousslyseriouss
It will work.
Pentax have shake reduction with all lenses that can moun on it
Waterproof. Not submersible. Good to go in a typhoon.
The video is 30 fps for 720p or 1081i video
• 1280 x 720 (16:9 720p)
• 1536 x 1024 (3:2 1080i)
• 640 x 416 (3:2)
Well.... I thnik I found my new upgrade. I got a k100 but i'm tired of it's poor image quality and flexibility.
Do want!

Pennies will be pinched even more. I've got to get one before hockey season comes back around.
@MrPlaystationboy 1.5
