well this video helps a lot thx. so i started my scuba course thx to you guys. its so much freaking fun ! ive got my mask snorkel and fins but they provide everything else for the course. now im going to want to purchase my own BCD so i can dive in my home area and on vaca still looking at all my options. i just want something that can go in cold waters as i live in canada and will be doing some diving here. im wondering if im better off getting something more suited for the cold and just rent when i go on vacation or if i can find something thats best for both worlds.
Ahh, that's great news Flyingphonix, glad you're enjoying it :) If you're mainly diving in cold waters then definitely buy a cold water BCD. But if it's a mixture of both cold and warm then look at hybrid/wing style BCD that is happy both in the cold and warm waters. The best thing to do is go to your local dive center and talk to the guys and girls there, try some on and just get a feel of the different designs and features.
FlyingPhoenix my condolences for having to dive in cold water. I live in South Texas, where the average winter temperature is still around 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit and the summer temps are 95-115. I bought a high performance scubapro BCD and wouldn't trade it for anything. My BCD has 55 pound (25 kilogram) lift capacity.
Initial cost is probably the most expensive for a piece of kit, but it will give me the freedom of diving around the UK all year round rather than waiting for those summer diving holidays and look after it and you will get your monies worth.
I have had my Zeagle Covert since 2012. It is the most lightweight wing I have ever run across. Its design is somewhat simplistic, but elegant, and yet you can use it with great flexibility.
I have the Hydros Pro (from you) and I love it. It's so comfortable, I used it all winter in the UK and it has more than enough lift even with the 12kg of lead I need with my drysuit.
Absolutely love my Zeagle Zena!! The 6 way harness buckles ensure a perfect fit for my somewhat curvy figure and short torso, without feeling claustrophobic. All of the adjustment points make it feel like a custom made BCD! I also love the wing with the trim weight pockets that give me perfect trim underwater but also keep me from landing on my face at the surface!
Thinking of getting a Zeagle Halo. warm water. dives between 30-100 most at 60. not planning on travelling TOO MUCH seeing that i live in the Caribbean. any thoughts?
Why did the Outlaw or Rouge not make the list? Another Q. Would the water off of San Francisco in the winter be considered cold ? Like 5mm? Or 3mm is good enough? Maybe a 5/3/2?
I've also got the hydros pro also purchased from your shop.greatbcd for everything including travelling as it comes with its own back pack rucksack 10 out 10 .only small downside the accessories are too expensive for what they are
I havent been diving since 1999. I still have all my gear. Im sure it doesnt fit. Lol ! Im going to renew my Scuba stuff. I was wondering can you service a BCD that old ? Im sure the blatter is dry rotted by now. Also wondering if i would be able to knock off some money on a new one , with a trade in ?
If you like swimming with your clothes on, use a jacket BC. Wings style BC=good. Jacket BC=no good. Use a rubber weight belt (e.g. Omer) and not the bean bag weights. I dive for a living in N. California.

Nothing wrong with cold water diving once you get your drysuit.
Mark Webster except the price

You recommend a good scuba package such as edge element or hog pro or sherwood basic?
Dive rite transpac and hydro lite wings are both great

I looked it up , Google said surface temps were warmest about 60 in Aug\sept I don't think a 5mil will do the job. May want semi-dry 7mm or drysuit.
What about the Scubapro Sea Hawk 2? :)
what do you think of the sea quest balance

I have the cousin to the Bolt, the Pure. Its very similar in shape and style, but simpler in some areas but they are really nice.
