I've been rather excited for Corepunk for a bit, but the more I learn about it, the more it sounds fucking infuriating, tedious, and dull. I _love_ oldskool MMOs that require grinding for materials, crafting your own stuff, and so forth--but hours upon hours upon hours of slogging just to reach level 10? Fuck that. I don't have that kind of time.
You have two choices: you either have leveling that's actually meaningful and takes its time, or you have the shit that every new mmo has built, where the """"real"""" game only starts once you hit max level, which takes usually a day or two, at most a week of playing, and then you realize that the """"real""" game is just spending hundreds of hours farming the same dungeons and doing the same things to drop items that are ~2% better than the ones you have until you get everything best in slot, only for the game to release an expansion and make you do that whole thing again. I only hope that levels are actually meaningful in this one, and not just "You get +X HP and Mana, and maybe a skill point".
I was in exactly the same boat - was really looking forward to it, but everything that has come out since has made me realise I won't enjoy it - it just doesn't respect the players' time at all and the combat when I did get hands on felt super grindy and dull unfortunately. Still, this was early Alpha and they will no doubt make lots more changes ahead of release.
@@g.m.fernandes3579 I'm no fan of those "endgame-driven" MMOs--they make the leveling process feel like nothing more than a perfunctory, time-wasting grind. As someone who got their start in MMOs via RuneScape during computer free time at school almost two decades ago I am cautiously optimistic about Brighter Shores.
I started MMOing with EQ in 1999 and I think Corepunk looks more interesting than Brighter Shores. I don't know why they chose that 8bit retro layered look for the terrain. There's not enough nostalgia in the world to make me like that.
@@TechnoSpiceWhy would nostalgia make someone play a game that looks bad to them? Nostalgia plays no role. I never played WoW, but classic looks WAY better than retail. If Brighter Shores looked like every other ugly MMO out there, I wouldn't be interested.

@@Heliox98YT I didn't say no testing. And alphas in the past are way different than present day alpha. You are wrong. And obviously young. Stop with being instantly triggered.
Ants domesticating other bugs is a cool mechanic in Empire of the Ants because they do this in real life, although the only example of this is an ant-domesticated aphid (which the ants feed and then they eat the sugary liquids that the aphids create).
My memory sucks, do you make these every month? I love this video. Not the first time I saw someone talk about Brighter Shores, but I was still lost after the first time I heard about it. You actually explain it well.
