Indian here. I dont know too much of the banjo history, but i have huge respect for any natural music instrument. I truly believe that music is the beginning of all human inspiration.
I’m a farmer in North Carolina. I have sheep for meat and milk. My wife is Irish and I’m Irish and Mexican and farm life is deep in our blood. This is good music for the days end. I’ll be up before the sun tomorrow to feed and work on a barn before Christmas church service.
First night in my low budget cabin in West Tennessee. It's frigid cold tonight and snow is on it's way tomorrow. No tv. Just me and my cat listening to this wonderful find. Tonight, life is good.
As someone who grew up in the deep south of Mississippi, I simply love the banjo and soft-style guitar. For over 20 years, my parents would make around 5 trips a year to eastern Tennessee and spend a week camping in the woods away from people and exploring the heritage. Being exposed to that certainly aided my appreciation for the cultural history of this area, I've always been intrigued by it. Been living here in East Tennessee for nearing 5 years I believe, havn't kept too great track of time, but I can say I love it and I love the history. And I love local, historic Appalachian style mountain music. This is exactly what I need to help me fall asleep on this absolutely frigid night. Have a good night all yall and anyone who reads this, know you're not alone in this world, even tho it may seem that way from time to time.
If a hymn and a lullaby got married, this what the baby would sound like. Love this. That steady strum/pluck, soothing vocal humming plus rain falling…feels like being rocked to sleep in a cradle inside a church wrapped in the soft dark of night.
This audio speaks of the millions of Europeans, largely the Scotch-Irish who populated the Appalachian mountains and their saga of leaving their lands in Europe often due to persecution or lack, and sought a new life, moved up into the mountains, shared it with the Native Americans, taught them and learned from them, lived in harmony with nature, were self-sufficient, lived off the land, brought their old culture and created a new culture. They helped win the Revolutionary War. They are legit. They are part of the saga of American history.
Was not so long ago that all the downtrodden played the blues to burn out the night. Thank you for this tune, I can imagine the likes brought many a great comfort over many a year and I am gladdened to see that they still do.
i listened to this and i was shocked at how it knocked me breathless. crooning melancholy and comfort like I'm not used to hearing. first time ive heard a banjo and it feels like every pluck is to the literal fibres of my heart. it feels like a sound of endurance. 'even so, we carry on'.
The banjo is a truly astonishing instrument with some incredible history. You mostly see it represented in the Appalachian mountains, especially East Tennessee, West North Carolina, and that corner around the 4 states. It has amazing potential as an instrument if in the right hands and can sound absolutely amazing.
I'm having a hard time explaining this. I've shared this with 3 friends tonight. I've been listening for about 4 hours. Been almost 2 years since being diagnosed with cancer. I'm getting through. This is so deep in my soul.
I am a Turk and a worker. I am a person who laughs and cries like everyone else. I listen to this music with a bottle of wine in my house in the village and stay with myself in that silence.
I know my comment is easily lost here, but if you're reading this, it's no coincidence. Be sure, gain strength! Even if you are going through something very difficult in your life. Believe that everything will work out! This is just a phase, hang on! I know we don't know each other, but I believe in you! Rest assured that God is always on your side!
Im from Pineville, Ky in the heart of Appalachia. This music Resonates IN MY SOUL❤ I can remember my Uncle Eli playing on the porch in the rain just like this, over +40yrs ago.
I haven't got ole Lucy out of my closet in more than 40 years and played a tune. I'm now on hospice and bedridden. Breed, Born and Raised and still here in these Tennessee mountains, I know I'm home.Think I'll ask my nurse tomorrow to get ole Lucy out and let me hold her in my hands one last time and see what happens. When momma passed away I stopped playing ole Lucy. When daddy passed I put ole Lucy in the closet. My grandpa taught me to play ole Lucy while sitting on the front porch every day at dusty dark, after supper with my family sitting and relaxing on the front porch drinking coffee, grandpa and daddy would play while the fog rolled in upon our lands.I was only three years old.You could hear us playing our banjos all three these Tennessee mountains. I really miss that sound .Now there just sweet memories to my soul. Momma always said they can take anything and everything away from a person, but not your memory's. She was right. Now I dream of walking up to those golden gates bare foot and playing ole Lucy. Wonder if they let a ole Tennessee mountains woman in that beautiful place. I ain't got nothing to offer for when I see the king of kings but I could play him a pretty tune. God bless everyone out there.
Something deeply down home and relaxing about this. It’s calming and because of the voice it’s not so lonely. Like hanging with an old friend. I slept with this last night and aside from sleeping extra well I had dreams with mellow energy. I woke up rested and calm.
Had a similar experience last night. Sunk into a cozy sofa, I fell asleep listening to the humming, riding the rhythm of the banjo.. restful sleep I had to say the least. True treasure this is.
All over the world , people can relax to this. Thank you from North West WA. Its 44 deg C , the beer is cold and the air is still. The desert will be alive soon with creatures and into the night.
You’re settling the Appalachian mountains with several dozen people. Some are chopping down large trees in the rolling fog and spring rain. Others are dragging them through dirt and over rocks back to the campsite to build log cabins. Smoke billows through the air as sheltered camp fires crackle away. As the sun sets, the men puff their corn cob pipes and an old man plucks away at his banjo around a campfire.
I wouldn't say sadness, maybe reflect or something, ahh , I had to look up pensive lol, nice word , could it be used by itself ? , cos I wouldn't say sadness , as it's nice lol ,, p.s I might not reply if u do cos i don't get notifications for some reason, *edit ahh you did say "almost", spot on :-)
I have been playing the fiddle, harmonica and Tennessee flat top for over 5 years now. Yet I have always wanted to play the banjo like this. Especially when sitting on the porch while the rain falls on my homestead's metal roof. Or by the fire while the snow and wind rip through the trees. This sound is heaven at night. Thank you

It's soft and in the mind it gives a vision, even if subconscious, of a slow, simple, calm life. I grew up in deep Dixie and recently moved slightly north to East Tennessee around 5 years ago. Live in a tiny mountain town very few have heard of and it's amazing. An astonishingly low crime rate compared to Mississippi and everyone knows everyone. We dont even have city sewer and that's just the way we prefer it. Means big companies won't move in here. Keeps it small. Keeps it peaceful. Keep it the closest thing we have to Heaven on Earth. I live a mere 10 minute walk from the national park. I recommend you visit East Tennessee if you're looking for a nature get away. Just don't start not a thing and you won't get a bother in return, I assure you that around here
I spent the day working on my farm and building fence. I also had to build a shelter for a pregnant ewe. My daughter was butted through a fence by a ram. One of my chickens was picked up by a hawk. This was just today. We also eat only food grown here and my wife bakes loaves of bread every day. We baked about 100 cookies for the neighbors for Christmas. This is a hard life my friend, but it pays off in many ways.
I live in southern Ohio and unfortunately the land is being bought up by people who don't love it. Only using it for profit. Stripping the timber and building rental cabins on every half acre they can
I'm from North Carolina and I clicked on a story about haunted places in North Carolina. Next thing I know this popped up. I'll have to give youtube a thumbs up on this.
Kentucky is my home. All family from eastern Ky. Really the cradle for this music. That and west Va and NC. This reminds me of all the coal miners and dirt farmers. Comes from a soulful place.

Kentucky is my home. All family from eastern Ky. Really the cradle for this music. That and west Va and NC. This reminds me of all the coal miners and dirt farmers. Comes from a soulful place.
This is by far the most relaxing and soulful thing I’ve ever heard. Strangely reminds me of “the dogs of war” by Blues Saracino. So beautiful
Thank you so much
