Buy the A6400. Flip up screen, mic jack, 4k video 30fps, 1080p 120fps, picture profiles, 425 pd autofocus points, eye autofocus in photo, weather sealed body, no recording limit, etc. Definitely worth it. Bought one for preowned for $600 in excellent condition w/ 16-50mm kit lens and extra accessories. Couldn't be happier. If you buy the A6000 you'll always wish you saved up more to purchase a "better camera" fit for vlogging.
I totally agree Dennis. A6400 is absolutely amazing camera which I also bought very recently and I love it. Much less hassle and performance is amazing! Unfortunately, there is bunch of people here who have the a6000 already and they don't have enough cash to buy a new camera so I am just trying to show them what can they do with the little money they have.
Excellent content and straight to two very important relevant points. Keep it up. I brought this for streaming (beginner) and soon hit the buffers with with Mic and the hassle to ge this working as a stand-alone made me park this to one side until now. Thank you. One of their thing. What is the easiest way to remove the 30min record limitation?
Thanks a lot Oheer. I tried to use a6000 as webcam, but it turns out its not possible - its interesting to know how are you using it for streaming! Regarding the 30min record limit, I believe you can not remove it on older models of Sony. I somehow have a feeling that only the newer cameras (or more pro lineup) does not have that limitation. And thanks a lot for checking out the vid buddy 🙌
3 years later and your a6000 is still going strong @@beautyinwanderland 💪 yeah the mic option is bit bulky and you also need to synchronise the audio in post production but its 10x better than in camera audio. Hope you will upload videos with your new setup soon! Good luck!
I have a Gopro 8 for vlogging, but I'll probably buy a used a6000 for photography and b-roll. Its the best value for the price. I was thinking to buy canon M50, but there are not many used ones and a new one is out of my budget. Thank you for the video and hello from Mexico 🤘
Hey Alan, I think you are doing the right thing. I also have GoPro 8 and am vlogging on it quite a lot. Did you buy the media mod? Because it seems that original GoPro audio is not the best. And a6000 for B-Rolls will be epic. Just get one or 2 cool prime lenses and the footage will blow your mind 🙌 And you are right, getting used a6000 is much easier. I recently got one with the kit lens for less than 400$. And thank you so much for checking out this video. Greetings to Mexico 🇲🇽
@@TomsJurjaks I don't mind the audio on the Gopro. For me it's ok. But I do have a little recorder, sony ICD-UX560F and a lavalier Mic. Sometimes I use that, but when I'm walking around the city I just use Gopro. Maybe you could do a video about the lenses for a6000? I would like to hear your advice.
@@AlanMeksikanac of course its always more convenient to just record straight into camera. I also have an external recorder, but syncing the audio to video is a bit of hassle. Thats a good idea Alan, I planned on making video about the kit lens (16-50) for vlogging and maybe another one for photography (comparing it with some premium lens), but having more of an overview video of lenses in general for a6000 could be a good one. Thanks for suggestion mate!
Well explained easy to understand. Would be helpful if you can use links to the gear you used and talked about in the video! Thanks from Central Valley Cal
Hey Omar, thanks a lot for dropping a comment. Yeah you are right, I can improve on those links, haven't figured it out yet. At the moment I only put the name of the gear, but since I don't have any affiliate deals, usually the link is million characters long, but I will figure this out soon. Thanks for suggestions. P.S. West Coast is on my list for a really long time. You live in a beautiful place my friend 🙌
In Adobe Premiere Pro it is very easy. Just bring in the video clip (with audio from camera) + audio from external recorded and when both audio clips are selected, right click -> synchronize and software will move the clips so they match perfectly 👌
Thank you for sharing this. I bought Sony a6000 from 3 years ago and now I’m back to use it again. Your video is inspired me and help me know how to work with my a6000. But only one problem, I can’t transfer my video to my iPad. Or I can transfer video to laptop but I can’t edit or do anything with it. Can you help sharing how to get the video to iPad?
Hi P! Im happy this video was helpful and thanks for the comment. Regarding your question - you need a video editing software in order to edit the video. You can use Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or you can even use iMovie on your iPad or MacBook. Transferring the files should not be a problem if you use a card reader and connect it to your iPad or laptop. I hope it helps!
Hey Esther, since a6000 doesnt have IBIS (in body stabilization) I suggest you use lenses with OSS (optical steady stabilization) built in. More expensive but worth it. Alternatively - get a gimbal like DJI Ronin SC. It will do wonders to your footage but bit of hassle to always set it up and carry around. Hope it helps!
Hi I was wondering with the audio would you need to upload that separately on for example final cut pro or would the audio automatically be on the video recording. Thank you so much your video has been so helpful
Hi Damola. Yes, you would need to upload it separately since the audio is recorded either in your phone or external recorder. Unfortunately, it doesn't record directly in the camera (unless you use that Sony Mic I mentioned). But its not that bad, because you can synchronize the audio in Final Cut (or Premiere Pro) since the camera still has audio from internal mic. Glad you found the video helpful 🙌
After this video I'm really undecided... I'm a beginner videomaker and photographer, I don't really mind about flip-up screen, so I don't know if it's worth for me to go for the 6100... I'm looking for some cages for the a6000 to put on a mic and a recorder... maybe it's a better option than buying the a6100... Could you please tell me if it's worth spending money on the a6000 in this case?
Hey Niccolò. I understand your dilemma and I would say that all depends on the deal you can get. If you are not actively vlogging on this camera (hence no need for the flip up screen) and you don't mind using a cage with the sound recorder then honestly I would suggest you to go with the a6000 because you can get it currently for ridiculously low price (search up some barely used and you will get it for 250$) while the a6100 does not have any offers and its being sold at full price. The only downside in your case for getting the a6000 vs a6100 is that a6100 can shoot 4K and 100mbps and 120fps at 1080p while a6000 shoots only 1080p, 50mbps and does max 60fps. So this is the question to yourself... Would you pay 400$ extra for 4k and 120fps? I would say no. If you are a beginner, get the a6000, shoot day and night, get your skills sky high and when you are ready, sell a6000 and get a6400 (skipping a6100). Ultimately the decision is yours of course and don't worry, whatever you choose, its gonna be a great choice, there are no wrong choices here. Good luck mate.
Im not sure what do you want to achieve? Do you want to use your phone as a microphone and record it in camera or you want to record in phone and then sync the audio with video in post production?
Hey Delphine, oh wow - The H8 is a beast! Well since a6000 doesnt have audio jack there is no way how to connect it with H8. The only way is to record it separately and then sync the audio in post production.
@@TomsJurjaksThanks! And in that case probably just as well to have the H8 either next to the camera on a tripod or run through the board? No real advantage to mounting it atop the camera?
Toms, We have the new IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, small size, perfect for Sony cameras, can we send one to you to play with?
I have the a6000 with a 16mm sigma lens, I wanna get into vlogging and more video related things for TH-cam. Since a6000 lacks stability for moving around do you think it would be better to purchase something like the go pro hero 8 and use that for video? Since it has stabilization built it
I would rather recommend Sony ZV-E10 - it has digital stabilization and also catalyst browse. GoPro is cool but I really don't like how the footage looks, everything is in focus, no bokeh, no way of getting cinematic shots, cant change the lenses, color correction is a nightmare and audio is really bad. Better spend a bit more and get something that will last you much longer and for more things. Also consider getting gimbal? Like the new Crane-M3.
Hey Kevin. I believe recording limit is 29min. And I'm not certain but I think you can record while charging your camera, however I don't see a reason why you need to do it as the battery lasts quite a while. Also you can check there are these "battery plugs" - basically it looks like a battery but its actually connected to the plug and directly powers the camera so you don't need to worry about battery level. Hope it helps brother!
@@TomsJurjaks DJI makes a DJI Mic 2 Camera Adapter, which is specific for Sony Cameras. I do not want to attach a link, but you can search it. I believe that adapter will work for the A6000. Will you confirm that for me?
@ okay I looked it up. Sony has ECB mic that uses the same exact system so DJIs Adapter SHOULD also work on A6000, but I can’t give you 100% since I don’t have that mic, however I think you can always return it if in case it doesn’t work out
Hey, yes of course you can use the Zoom H1 alone, however as it has 2 microphones it records very wide area of sounds. If you want to record ambient sounds - it is perfect, but if you want to vlog then your voice would blend in with rest of the sounds from the street. To fix this - its preferable to use shotgun mics as they have the polar pattern that records majority of the sounds right where you point them, thus giving you much cleaner sound, blocking out most of unwanted street noise and mostly picking up your voice. Hope it makes sense for you!
Haha I hope it works well for you brother 😁 It will be a bit clutter and then you need to sync it up in post but the sound should be quite good (100x better than in camera mic at least) 😁 Good luck!
@@TomsJurjaks I will update you as soon as I give the setup a try in a few days. I even bought the mirror for selfie. Be on alert when I message back here :)
Hey Mohanlal, I've never had issues while recording for 15+ minutes and I don't know anyone who have had heating issues. I really don't know where this talk about overheating comes from.
Sorry mate, there is no audio input port in this camera whatsoever so there is just no way how to get the audio signal in camera. The only option is through the hot shoe as I said in the video by using Sony's Shotgun mic.
@@thefotoguyfilms6084 as I said, Im not aware of any adapters. The only way how to get audio is either recording externally or using specific Sony's Shotgun mic that records through hot shoe. Ive never heard of any other solution being possible so i really don't know what you are referring to

Very helpful, thanks! I am on a budget and want to do vlogging outdoors so found a a6000 on eBay for $460 (open box, a Target overstock) ... I would be happy to pay Sony prices for a great mic, but the Amazon reviews are only 4 stars on all 3 available ... BAD BAD Sony!!! ... Am surprised that some other company with good to high quality mics has not jumped on making a compatible mic for this camera and others like it with only a shoe ... because it is a great camera and will keep selling ... holding a price only a couple hundred dollars less than original retail price.
Hey buddy, I agree with you, but there just might be another solution. As one of the commentators said here - there are these little adaptors you can use. I haven't tried them myself, but he said it works, you might wanna check them out:

Thanks Toms. However I own a a6000 and i was wondering if we can use any jack to usb adapter for connecting mic directly to the cam? Will it work ?
Great video👍🏻 can i ask you something? Saramonic wireless mic can be use on sony a6000 ??
Thank you! I am not sure, but I expect that you still need to plug your wireless mic in the camera. Unless it can record internally.
This what i need :) thanks sir.

@@TomsJurjaks i bought my a6000 way back 2017, and I'm currently into vlogging. This will definitely change my life!
gonna try the mic options as well
3 years later and your a6000 is still going strong @@beautyinwanderland 💪 yeah the mic option is bit bulky and you also need to synchronise the audio in post production but its 10x better than in camera audio.
Just get one or 2 cool prime lenses and the footage will blow your mind 🙌
And you are right, getting used a6000 is much easier.
Super!!! Very cool info!!
Thanks a lot Nadezhda! 🙌
Great video my man!
great video! what light would you recommend for video recording on the a6000?
Thanks! Indoors? My favorite light is SmallRig RC120D. Great performance for the price. Also a softbox is a must.
Great video - so once we do this - there is a way to combine the audio and video? Is it difficult to match them up?
In Adobe Premiere Pro it is very easy. Just bring in the video clip (with audio from camera) + audio from external recorded and when both audio clips are selected, right click -> synchronize and software will move the clips so they match perfectly 👌
Jo Good Video you schould become way more attention.
Hopefully one day my friend! Thanks for the good words.
Hey bro, what about SONY ECM W2BT bluetooth mic? Does it work with A6000? For me it looks like the perfect solution. Can you please test it?
Great sharing 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you have any tips stabilization? The videos I took were so shaky even though I wasn’t shaking all that much ....
Hope it helps!
what a great content for newbie. thank you. really enjoyed.
Cheers mate! I am so glad you liked the video!
@@TomsJurjaks Thank you very much for the answer 💪 You're right, I'll go for the a6000
Up to now I don't really mind about 4k
Good luck my friend and have fun! 🙌

I've had the Sony A6000 for years. Thinking of getting the Zoom H8. Any hints on using them together for live music recording?
Hey Delphine, oh wow - The H8 is a beast! Well since a6000 doesnt have audio jack there is no way how to connect it with H8. The only way is to record it separately and then sync the audio in post production.
@@TomsJurjaks Thanks

Hi Tom,how long can I record a video on a6000 and can I record while charging?
Can I use the DJI Mic 2 with the Sony A6000?
@@matthewadams2979 how does it connect to the camera? If its via 3.5mm audio jack then no
@@TomsJurjaks DJI makes a DJI Mic 2 Camera Adapter, which is specific for Sony Cameras. I do not want to attach a link, but you can search it. I believe that adapter will work for the A6000. Will you confirm that for me?
@ okay I looked it up. Sony has ECB mic that uses the same exact system so DJIs Adapter SHOULD also work on A6000, but I can’t give you 100% since I don’t have that mic, however I think you can always return it if in case it doesn’t work out
@@TomsJurjaks Thank you. I will spend the $35 on the adapter. New follower. Thanks for the help!
What lens are you using with it?
Many. Please watch my other videos not only to see which are my favorite lenses, but what results they give.
Hello, why would I need to ZOOM H1 recorder and the shotgun mic? Doesn’t the Zoom do it all?
Hey, yes of course you can use the Zoom H1 alone, however as it has 2 microphones it records very wide area of sounds. If you want to record ambient sounds - it is perfect, but if you want to vlog then your voice would blend in with rest of the sounds from the street.
To fix this - its preferable to use shotgun mics as they have the polar pattern that records majority of the sounds right where you point them, thus giving you much cleaner sound, blocking out most of unwanted street noise and mostly picking up your voice.
Hope it makes sense for you!
@@TomsJurjaks Makes absolute sense! I ended up buying both either way because I trusted your insight. Can’t wait 😁 Thanks for the information
Haha I hope it works well for you brother 😁 It will be a bit clutter and then you need to sync it up in post but the sound should be quite good (100x better than in camera mic at least) 😁 Good luck!

Can't we connect microphone with adaptor to camera?
Sorry mate, there is no audio input port in this camera whatsoever so there is just no way how to get the audio signal in camera. The only option is through the hot shoe as I said in the video by using Sony's Shotgun mic.
We can make a port using adaptor right..but will the software work ? Audio will be recorded? Usking a simple mic and then using adaptor to connect it.
