🤣🤣 Jasper, wazee hukumbuka! It was the strangest thing to see on the road the first time you saw it on the way to Kangemi. From there the matatu industry was never the same.

The reason the packaging bag are sold in Kenya is to encourage reusing them, they are expensive and if they are given for free people will be throwing them away thus increasing the cost for business owners. So we encourage people to buy their own bags in order to reuse them again and again. It was a government initiative to minimize environmental pollution and littering.
greed for money by landlords, they try to minimize the cost by escaping the finishing up expenses. Developers build high apartments to recover the cost they bought the land. Plots outside Nairobi are even very expensive. A 50 by 100 feet plot could go up to Kshs 5 million (UShs 150 million) so building apartments with many floors helps to recover the costs.
Harriet, the shopping bags are deliberately for buying to encourage recycling. It will be expensive to any shopper who keeps on buying shopping bags each and every time, such that the next visit you go with your own bag, buy or carry your stuff without the bag.
Uganda can provide food for all of us but Hawafanyi kazi sana, the place rain like almost daily, there is plenty food for everyone, Kenya is generally semi arid so our food basket aint so big nowonder people are so fast trying to gather everything available, unlike uganda who must eat even if they dont work coz food is always available, so come again en getta used.
Harriet come back again. We love you. Next time visit Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nanyuki, Kakamega, Kisii, Naivasha, Meru ..... and the list is endless. You're very welcome again. Bring me a cute Ugandan lady, please 😢
Seeing lots of residential flats didnt mean that there are no bungalows & masionettes, the areas you visited are predominantly of such structures, and that demonstrates growth,in a country whose population is growing, you dont expect to see bungalows everywhere you go,but again,we got numerous areas with the bungalows and masionettes, talk of syokimau, kitengela,Ruai, some numerous hoods along Mombasa road,Kabete,Karen etc, lets say Kenyans got a mix of all this kind of structures and Ugandans lacking that means that you got some growing to do
As for paperbags, in the earlier years we used to use plastic bags and they were free even at supermarkets. The plastic bags started becoming environmentally unfriendly thus were phased out. Now we have the eco-friendly bags which we buy and are reusable multiple times
As soon as you got to the point about Kenyan men loving Ugandan women I knew what it was about...😅 It's mostly about the nyash. When it comes to food, each of the 42 tribes in Kenya have their traditional foods which you will not just find anywhere in the urban centres. Again, not everyone enjoys food with soup and those who prefer having their meals with soup, will request for it if the food is served without soup. I've also seen establishments where they always give soup separately in a bowl to accompany the main dish. I would also like to know the different varieties of foods they've in Uganda for me to understand this hype about Ugandan food...on a lighter note though.
Sad to see you back home. Anyway, East or West Home is always best. Welcome to Kenya again and again. This is your second home. Hope to meet you on your next visit . We can do a de tour around other cities in kenya. Karibu Konza technopolis City.
About manners, if you visit the villages, it is different from the city, especially Nairobi. I am from Western Kenya, and we greet our elders with one hand over the other and curtesy a little. You can not just give them a hand standing up straight. That's how i was raised to do. We are close to Uganda and our cultures are almost the same i guess.

Kenyans have all the reasons to love their country. Their regimes over the years have in general provided them an outstanding standard of living by African standards. In contrast, Ugandan regimes have during the same period delivered nothing but insecurity, corruption and a high misery index. That's why some of us never looked back when we arrived in the US
