    Here's what I sent:
    Dear OSPD leadership team,
    As proposed, I feel the regulation is smart and protectively efficient. I realize that there are some groups in Oregon that desire tighter constraints on where drone pilots may take-off and land, particularly along the beautiful Oregon coast. As an Oregon-based travel and documentary producer and FAA Part 107 Certified sUAS Remote Drone Pilot, our glorious seashores have become one of my most favorite aerial and ground film locations.
    As a devout Oregonian and humble outdoorsman, I take great care in doing my part to help keep Oregon beautiful by remaining proactive about protecting our unique wildlife and the abundance that flows from our many invaluable natural resources. This means that I plan each flight according to certain risk mitigation factors; one being that of how a proposed aerial mission will interact with the surrounding environment. Risk assessments are performed to determine if the flight could be hazardous to people, wildlife, the environment, and property.
    Based on my experience with and observation of other Oregon drone pilots, we all cherish the natural beauty that is Oregon and remain dedicated to appreciating and caring for her for many future generations to come.
    At this, I respectfully ask that you proceed as written with the "Proposed Park Area Rules - DRAFT OPRD Drone Take-off and landing rules." I adamantly agree that the current language of letting drones fly everywhere except where identified is a reasonable and acceptable compromise.
    Should you wish to contact me for further comment, you can reach me at 503-389-5411 or via email at info@aerialnorthwest.com.
    I thank you for your time and I look forward to reading the final ruling!
    Most graciously,
    Tony

      @WilzDezignPhotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, for WA you still have to pay a fee for Recreational usage in state parks. Commercial is much more of a headache to obtain. Although I decided to keep my drone home, I see someone bring out the DJI FPV and zip around everyone near the park and beach without a care in the world -_-

      @@WilzDezignPhotography FPV flying around unsuspecting people is terrible and dangerous! That person makes it tough for the rest of us responsible flyers.
      I just checked the latest info for WA State Parks. You need to pay $25 and file a request form 60 days in advance of the anticipated flight for a UAS permit. I haven't tried that yet. I rarely plan that far ahead ;-)

      @@pkwithmeplease in WA we still pay day usage fees for some county and state parks, same as paying fees to camp on it. Just because we pay taxes, does not mean it funds every space. Yes WA is know to tax or fee alot. This last year they passed Commercial Drone fee per drone we pay to the state. Not sure how many do that though

    Thanks Greg for alerting us to the change in Oregon rules. I raised my family in Oregon and Washington and still have many friends there. I liked the park policies there and was concerned to hear of the potential changes. I will be sure to write to them to express my concerns. In California the few parks that allow drones by permit charge eggregious permit fees to prevent the typical drone pilot from being able to fly. I would hate to see Oregon go that direction. My email will be sent off to them today.

    I wonder how many state parks do we know of that can 'fly' any type of RC craft? Oh wait, Red Rock Southern Nevada State Park, can actually fly drones there (limits though--not sure how you avoid flying over wildlife)...there also could be limits (other State Parks) but not total denial of drone flight (DDF). But of course you touched on this very well!!! Specific areas not every area (that you can take off from)
    Wow Texas workshop really taking it to the next level!! And a very attractive price!! Only in Texas? Need more info for future workshops!!

    I live 4 miles N of the Oregon border in Vancouver Wa. Already Washington State parks are ridiculous and unneccesarily restriced/fees so it's super disappointing that Oregon is going to follow. Are we going backwards in time?

  • @johns7734
    @johns7734 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that this is already the way that things stand in NJ. In state parks, you need 90 day prior approval to fly for a specified purpose in a specified area other than a few areas set aside for RC models. If I'm wrong about this, I'd like to know since I have not found a pre-flight app that lists NJ state parks as no-fly zones and I'd hate to make a mistake.

      Typically we find that personalized emails are more powerful than copy/paste. WIth that said, the talking points should be that the current way drones are handled, aka fly everywhere except for select places, is the correct compromise. Another talking point is that drones that fly in the same location would be more dangerous and likely create more accident because of high density of flights. The last one is that overly restrictive rules lead to ignorance of the rules, which makes things a lot worse for everyone, including the state park spending more money to enforce rules that didn't need to be there in the first place.

    I live in Indiana and the DNR effectively bans drones by saying drones must fly above 400 feet no matter if they are launch in or out of a DNR property. They have a section saying they can issue a permit. I have a part 107 cert and a LLC - the answer I got is that they do not issue permits to individuals. So. It is hard to see Oregon’s law as a drastic negative change. I’d love to have just a couple scenic spots - they allow people with guns almost every DNR area but somehow drones are too risky.

    FYI: Banning drones in state parks is nothing new. The present list of regulations in the police state of NJ, most put in place by the insane NJ legislature is from the "UAC Coach" website and is not intended to replace legal council. This is not the full list but is an example what happens when those in power know that most people cannot afford to legally challenge the constitutionality of their loss of freedoms.
    "This NJ policy bans drone operations from all state-managed lands and waters that don’t have prior approval. Operators must submit applications to fly from the above to the Assistant Director (State Park Service) in accordance with N.J.A.C 7:2-1.4(b)."
    As far as I know this is still in effect and the reason for the ban was the NJ legislature did not know what to do, they had no data on drone safety so they just decided to ban them all together.
    South Jersey where I live there is little area to fly legally. 40% of the state falls under areas considered to be "state managed lands and waters" such as the Wharton and Brendan Byrne state forests etc.. County parks are also banned in most cases as in Atlantic county. I stopped just to see what areas they allow drones. They handed me an application which has a fee, there were two areas they allow quad that are not even as big as the parking lot at the local Walmart. I never returned to Atlantic county.
    Then we have townships that passed local ordinances that ban drones, legally and illegally. The present list as per the "UAC Coach" website and is not intended to replace legal council:
    Ramapo Indian Hills-Municipal Law // 2016
    This city ordinance prohibits the use of drones on or above school grounds.
    Bernards Township-Municipal Law // 2015
    This city ordinance prohibits the use of drones in or over any park or recreation facility.
    Chatham Township-Municipal Ordinance // 2015
    This city ordinance prohibits the use of drones in public airspace under 400 feet.
    City of Ventnor-Municipal Ordinance // 2016
    This city ordinance prohibits drones from taking off or landing on any government or public buildings, operating under 400 feet around any of these buildings or operating in any city parks or property is prohibited.
    East Bay Regional Parks-Municipal Ordinance // 2016
    This city ordinance prohibits drones from flying closer than 500 feet above any East Bay District Parks.
    Borough of Franklin Lakes-Municipal Ordinance // 2016
    This ordinance prohibits drones from operating in any airspace below 400 feet within the Borough:
    Over private property, without prior permission from the property owner;
    Over any street;
    Over any Borough building, without prior permission from the Mayor and Council;
    Between dusk and dawn; and
    Over any persons who are not participating in the operation, or any persons not directly participating in the operation of the aircraft located within 100 feet of the perimeter of the area over which the aircraft is being operated.
    There are exceptions to these Borough regulations which can be found on the page linked above.
    Passaic County-County Ordinance // 2019
    This county ordinance prohibits drones from flying within or on park property without a permit issued by the Passaic County Parks Department. More information about drone permits can be found here.
    Middlesex County-County Ordinance
    This county ordinance prohibits drones from any Middlesex County parks, except in areas that are designated for such use and posted for this purpose by the Director of County Parks and Recreation.
    Wayne Township-Township Code // 1989
    This township ordinance prohibits drones from operating in any township parks unless the area is listed as a designated area for such use.
    Long Beach Township-Township Code // 2015
    This township ordinance prohibits drones from operating a drone within any airspace below 400 feet of the ground and structures within the township.
    Palisades Interstate Park Commission-Park Ordinance // 2019
    This park ordinance prohibits the operation of drones within any property owned/managed by the commission.
    Essex County-Park Ordinance // 2020
    Usually when you do find a spot that doesn't fall under one or more of these banned areas you will find other issues such as overpopulated, military bases, close to airports or heliports or if you fly a DJI quad, it will be a restricted corridor or area. Good spots to fly are usually a 2 hour or more drive and not in NJ.
