  • Petrovaradin Fortress is located about an hour away from Belgrade, Serbia in the city of Novi Sad. Cross over the bridge from Novi Sad and into Petrovaradin, an interesting town within Novi Sad in Vojvodina, Serbia. Venture into the Petrovaradin Fortress which was built in 1780 and is located on the right bank of the Danube river. This fortress has a lot of historical significance and is also the home for the annual EXIT music festival in Serbia. Join me as I make my way into Petrovaradin Fortress and explore all of it.

In my next life I will live in Serbia. :) It's freaking amazing. The architecture is different everywhere, that's what I love about it. Every home is different.

I'm glad you visited Petrovaradin fortress! :)
There are million fun facts about this fortress, one interesting, as you noticed air vents, it has 16km of tunnels that goes through, beneath fortress and beyond, armories, prisons, etc. In the middle, beneath museum, there is also well which supplied water in times it was under siege.. Maybe you noticed how it is built, in layers, that parking area you saw was inner city area, which was most protected. To reach it, you had to conquer all lower grounds, separated by all those narrow bridges... Bridges are made of wood, so they can be easily destroyed in need... :) It is one on If you decide to come back, after this pandemic is over, we can show you a bit more gorgeous but well hidden places there... Cheers!

That "little house" that partially under ground is actually a gunpowder storage building. It's built in deeper so that enemy artillery can't hit it.
And you're right about the domes, they are ventilation for the tunnels.

Petrovaradin is city municipal (part of City of Novi Sad). Same as New Belgrade and Belgrade. It is first city zone.

Clock Tower, On the dials, large hands show hours, and small minutes, counterclockwise to any modern clock, There are more interesting things about the watch. The first is that boatmen would see what time it is from a greater distance and in bad weather, and the second reason is that the clock was ticking every hour, and so the guards changed, so the minutes didn't matter. Nice video!

You didnt notice the watch tower, it is not 9 o clock, but 15minutes to 12 o clock, small pointer pointing minutes, and longer one hours "to be seen from the town" of NS

Petrovaradin Is actually way more older than Novi Sad! Novi Sad was founded by Serbs, when they were banished from Petrovaradin in 1694! Also did you notice how the sign at 4:58 is written in three languages? Serbian, Slovak and Hungarian. Btw at 8:47 is the house of Ban Josip Jelačić, the guy on a horse on the main square in Zagreb. Maybe after Sombor you get to visit another Baroque town, called Sremski Karlovci, which is just a short bus ride away from Novi Sad. Sremski Karlovci were the center of Serbs in Habsburg monarchy, (so there are significant buildings in such a small town: like Patriarchs palace, oldest Gymnasium in Serbia, Cathedral...) and now it's a beautiful wine region. Bermet is the famous local drink. Good luck in your future travels! I have watched you since the Zagreb video!

You could have crossed the street on the other side of the river, it's easier. Whatever side of the river, the shortest way to cross the street is to go under the bridge and then go up again on the other side.
