    Going through your older vids and I came across this one. I am just prepping up for fibre glassing the first 10 moulds I am making. I was looking at one and wondering how I was going to do the undercuts and then I saw this. Brilliant idea and worked really well and saved me a lot of heartache

    Hey Gris im glad you gave it a try and shared . It will definitely save you a lot of time. . I had a ball of the stuff that was extra that i let set up in a random shape and it is really durable . I can twist and pull on it really hard and it won't break . I don't even bother with the food color anymore i just squeeze it right into the pile of corn starch.

      No thank you Tom ,I think the stuff is brilliant!! I did the same ,dropped it ,stepped on it , chucked it at a wall , it holds up great.Yeah ,the food coloring is totally not necessary ,except if you're a stickler for aesthetics lol. Hope you didn't mind me using your name in the vid ,but credit where credit is due my friend ,thanks again.

      @@mrconcreteartisan I would like to know who was sitting around with a tube of type 1 silicone and corn starch and said hey lets see what happens if we mix this shit together.

    Great idea. I've seen this process done before to make small silicone molds. But never to make small plugs.

    Question: I need more time to knead a full tube. Does using less food coloring slow down curing? I have failed twice and am getting frustrated.

      Yes ,it will.

      It hardens in to rubber after about 15-20 minutes. It doesn't actually turn rock solid if that is what you're implying. It's basically just silicone that is made mouldable by the cornstarch before it cures. Once cured it's basically rubber that holds the shape you created before it cured.

    Would you apply the plugs every time you pour concrete or is it just for the initial glassing and then you pour without the plugs?

    • @mrconcreteartisan
      @mrconcreteartisan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey von ,good question . Yes, the plugs would go in each time you pour.

    thanks Gris I was going to try and find that and how to do it I also wanted to ask you how you get the inside of your fibreglass outers smooth as I always seem to get air holes and its all rough inside and how do you get the fibreglass to stick to your legs as mine keep slipping off the wood

    • @mrconcreteartisan
      @mrconcreteartisan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just keep pushing the air out with your brush,go back to it 2 or 3 mins after you have applied and give the bubbles a push again with lots of resin on your brush.
      Rough up the wood a little with some coarse sand paper and wipe off dust.Pre apply some resin to the leg first, and pre soak the glass as well.Wait until the glass is very soft and pliable then apply to the wood.( or plastic pipe)😃👍 Let me know how you make out.
