100 Year Old Scale Restoration from England

- In this video I am restoring an old, antique scale from Salter's Family Scale..
I found the model's name of this scale on a very rusty and crusty brass plate. It's No.50. It can measure up to 14 lb. The scale functioned but not accurate, and I thought the built-in spring might be the problem.
It was made in Britain around 1900-1910.
I could buy this from eBay. I think I bought it for around $70.
Also, the original scale must have a tray. During the restoration work, I found out that the tray was missing.
Making the trays was a challenge for me. At first it wasn't wood, I tried with aluminum. It was my first time doing plate banding and it was risky.
So, I tried hammering with a round jig, but the result was not good. Had to hammer thousands of times. It was a good try for me.
In the end, I chose solid wood, and the result is very satisfying. It gave the scale a more antique feel.
The main color is dark green. There are 3 colors in total. The shaft has chosen yellow as a point.
I hope this video will give you pleasure.
Thanks for watching the video.

Thank Shaun Mullings for the kind comment.
Well done. Enjoyed watching.
Thanks for the kind comments Woody Beck. Have a nice day😊
I can't believe that someone hasn't commented on the way you nickel plated the small parts! The wire bottom basket is an elegant solution for plating many small parts at the same time without having to wire wrap them individually. Why have I never seen this method used before?! Awesome!
Thank J.L.Emerson for kind comments and your interest for my video. Have a nice weekend!
Wow huge project 👍 to be honest I didn't like that colour until you showed the finished project but it was definitely the right choice. Turned out great. Well done. 👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you for your really kind comment😊 I’m so glad you like this colour
That is awesome. You got the scale working again, plus, it looks much better than it did before. Great work.
Thank George Brown for the kind comments. 😊 Have a nice day.
Your restored scale is actually more accurate than you showed. If you loosen the screw on the front of the brass piece connected to the red hand, you can align the red hand with “0” and then tighten the screw back down. Fantastic job!
Thank capers72424 so much for the kind comment.😊 I think it would be better if I had done it too. Thanks
Good restoration project ❤️😍keep up brother 🌹
Thank you for your comments. I will visit your channel.😊
Awesome restoration, so nice to see something restored that was genuinely old and rusty. There seems to be so much stuff on TH-cam that appears to have been sandblasted then left in the rain for a few days. Well done 👍
Thanks for the comment.🙂
It was actually a rainy day all the time I was working.😇
Your work is always second to none. The scale is gorgeous now🫢👍🏻
🥰
Nice job.😊
Thank Australia 😃
There’s a few things that made me scratch my head after all the labor you invested.
1. The unfinished sanded filler in areas.
2. With a wood lathe there are much easier ways to make a bowl and it wouldn’t have a worm screw hole in the middle.
Overall beautiful.
Thank Will for your interest and kind comments. 👍😊 It’s chanllenge for me to work without wood lathe. Thank you 😊
