@@khaIid624No, she was absolutely abusing her kids long before Jodi. Verbal & emotional abuse are just as bad as physical abuse & the things she was doing most definitely inflicted psychological damage on those poor kids. She always had that darkness within her although it was somewhat controlled until she got around Jodi & she released it to its full extent. People not calling it what it is is the exact reason why her story ended up where it is today.

The union helped me write a rebuttal but the next day my supervisor came and screamed at me for “challenging a principal and making him look bad”. I resigned after that and I had 10 years vested in the public schools and pension. I now am self employed and make a living mainly through private lessons and offering online classes to international & home school families. My oldest son was a little slow moving around. At 5 months old he had not yet started rolling, so like usual, I put him in the middle of my bed while I cleaned my room.
Well, little did I know he would start rolling that day. He rolled off my master bed, which is very high off the ground.
I heard a bang and crying. I immediately ran over to him and checked him over. Then I was off to the ER. I worked in administration in the ER so one of the docs saw my baby right away.
He was no longer crying when touched, but they did some x-rays anyway. My baby was just fine. He didn’t have a scratch or bump on him let alone a broken femur.
I remember my doctor friend saying, “babies are bouncy, so I think he’s okay but we will check him further to make sure he’s okay.”

I was abused as a kid, I know the other adults knew. My bishop knew my mother was physically abusing us and my father but blamed my father for it. Ruby is the monster that got the spot light, but just like cockroaches all the other abusers in the church are still hiding. Hope those kids can find safety and peace, though that’s definitely not in Kevin’s neglectful hands.

@@drpepperfan452I was also from a Mormon family in Utah. Our family was the most influential and rich in our town, and even then we couldn’t get any help. It’s literally in our laws that men can just marry 16 year old girls, and my mom was one of them, as was all the women in my family. The church doesn’t care either. They ignored so many signs, and it’s the same story all throughout Utah. My town is literally a cult of mental illness, crime, and abuse, and absolutely nothing is done about it. So we’ll blanket statement however we want because we’ve been there and we see how it destroys EVERYONE. But of course, it’s hard to understand when you weren’t raised in it, and I suppose hating a religion as a whole is controversial. But there is nothing redeemable about Mormonism, at least in Utah. I can't help but think a lot of her problems are created by the culture she was raised in. The selfishness and self-centeredness likely came from a lack of support from her own family. Part of it may just be her own persnality- everything need to be about her, she gains satisfaction from hurting people, and her ego requires that everyone worship her -if someone doesn't love and worship her she transforms into a vile hateful monster. A narcissist, if you will. Her community gives her more power and praise for her behavior, encouraging it.
She was likely told by her Mormon community that having children would make her life "happier". After having children her life wasn't happier or better, but more difficult and had more responsibilities. She didn't want to deal with it, so she made her children take care of her own children.
This is someone stuck in a carefree mindset, of someone who doesn't have kids and feel the need to care for anyone else.
She was not prepared or qualified for children, but felt she NEEDED to have them to validate herself as a Mormon mother- then failed in every aspect of being a mother.
The irony is if she wasn't Mormon or raised Mormon, she probably wouldn't have had kids or desired to have any. It was only that BECAUSE she is Mormon she is EXPECTED to have kids. She, as a narcissist, thought that if she was a mother she'd be more valuable in her community's eyes. And she was.
This very issue has its roots in Mormonism, which other extremist Christian groups have the same ideals, goals, and values. The problem is extremist Christian values and how they value control, manipulation, and abuse above all else.
Mormons might not say outright that they abuse, but call it family values. You cannot convince me Mormonism is not a cult that controls and manipulates people into being complicit with abuse. Because in practice, that's exactly what they are taught and trained to do.

The case has stayed with me for months. I work with abused children (not in the U.S. though) and I can say one thing for sure - these kids are massively traumatized for life. Even with a ton of therapy, no one can say for sure if they will ever recover from these experiences and be able to lead a normal life. It is very likely that they will exhibit very conspicuous and difficult behavior in the years to come. I therefore sincerely hope that these children find good and sensitive foster parents and are spared further abuse.

Basically you put the baby on a blanket or in a designated area, and every time they get off that area you yell/strike/punish in some way until they learn that they should self contain on the blanket. He's morally objectionable, but legally it's entirely different. He has a religion backing him, and culture like that explains away intentions to harm. Not to mention that they have no hard proof of him abusing them. The kids haven't specified that he was abusing them, so it's up in the air so far.
The thing with prosecuting someone on a charge is that if they fail to convict, they can lose their chance in the future to bring them to court if more evidence is found. Lawyers want to be cautious about trying to convict someone for something that has only circumstantial evidence. People are shitty parents all the time, and morally objectionable ingrates outside of that, but that isn't something you can send someone to jail for.
He's a failure as a father, and it'll have to stay at that unfortunately. Until there's hard evidence of wrongdoing, it's extremely reckless to try and convict him and potentially squander that. You can definitely make a case that he's an unfit parent, but even that is difficult to prove, and it relies on someone involved to assert that.

The sad thing about this video is that it hits a little too close to home for me. A lot of Ruby's "punishments" eerily mirrored how I grew up - I was never hit. But the abuse was all mental and emotional. If I cried, I'd be threatened to stop crying and "be strong". So I numbed myself. I then proceeded to be yelled at more for "being cold" and "I don't know what's wrong with you, you feel nothing!"
My gifts would be given to me, only to be destroyed if I came home with bad grades or a low mark. My phone was frequently checked, as was my email, so I was "honest and good girl." I was neither. I was just sneakier.
No real friends. Everyone loved how attentive my family was, but I was harshly criticized at home when no one saw.
I was angry but could not express the unfairness and disdain without being humiliated or talked down to or compared to my sibling, who adopted the "go along to get along" as a survival tactic.
I finally left when I got a steady job and income. I went to therapy, because my trauma was harming my outside relationships. I'm healing, and I genuinely hope these children do as well. No one deserves this treatment. No one. I hope for nothing but the best for them as they grow.

I've always been defensive of these wilderness therapies because it really did help my older brother but in retrospect I think the best thing it did was get him away from my mom for a while.
He left home not long after turning 18. I left the day I turned 18. We both realized what we had to do for ourselves even though neither of us could really put it into words at that age.
But it happens even in state sanctioned mental health programs. I've seen it more than once. Kid seems to do better when away from home... Yet no one would dare take them away.
Because where would they go? The foster system isn't much better than alot of these parents. The abuse isn't provably all that bad... Until it is...

Growing up watching the 8 passengers, I really thought most of the discipline was normal. My mother took away my door all the time, made me sleep in the living room, take away food and lock it away, etc etc. I’ve grown up to resent her, because I never felt like a daughter to her. More of an inconvenience. She also constantly reminded me how hard it was raising me.
Only good thing to happen is I have my own two daughters now and I treat them completely differently. I give them love, appropriate discipline, and reminders they are important to me. I broke the cycle.

The horrific thing about all this is that these children almost didn’t make it, despite their abuse being well-documented and so many eyes being on them, and so many people trying to intervene. What chance in hell does a child have who isn’t an Internet personality? How many more children have the system let down, that we’ll never know about because it’s too late?

    • @Rey-it3sg
      @Rey-it3sg 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

There's nothing to do. CPS rarely if ever actually attempts to investigate. CPS failed me. The only way I got out was growing up and getting as far away as possible- far enough to give myself the time and space to put all my broken pieces back together. It's just an unfortunate outcome of growing up an aboosive household. By US laws (where I live) children are not people until 18. Before then they are PROPERTY and belong to their parents. That's why our culture around families are so different from European countries. That means there's nothing government services can really do until they have EVIDENCE of a crime. But aboosive family members will destroy any evidence they can, stopping cps from being able to fully investigate, or denying cps outright. The problem has to do very much with that we treat kids as property and not humans. US Conservatives don't want to sign the same child protection act as our European allies because they want full control over their child's autonomy with no exceptions. So when I say nothing will happen for us, the reason why is political and relating to laws Conservatives have set in place to keep themselves above the law at the expense of anyone they want. Children are just the easiest to force.

He was 14 years old, did not have any friends, any freedom, at one point not even having a door for his bedroom. There would have been some form of undeniable proof that he had been struggling with some sort of substance abuse. Jodi says that everyone has a sexual deviancy and addiction. I’m guessing that Jodi struggles with her own sexual identity and desires (Ruby) and also struggles with addiction. I think it’s a food hangup for Jodi, and an addiction to power over other people. I think she’s a closeted lesbian, and rather than just accept it, she hides it, goes after married women like Ruby, and gets the husband out of the house and the bed, so she can slide into his place. When I was about 5, I started to develop what I now know as my diagnoses of panic disorder, social anxiety, and ptsd. I lived with my aunt and her husband in a different state because my mom was in her 20’s and didn’t want me (which contributed to the anxiety). I started having panic attacks on the daily, and they would get worse at night to the point where I would vomit in my bedroom because I was ruminating so badly. Whenever this happened, my aunt’s husband used to make me strip naked and swat my butt with a large wooden spoon 20-30 times. I bruised many times. And of course, as always, he is a devout Christian.

I had a very Mormon teacher in high school who would openly talk about abusing his kids in front of my classmates and I. He wasn't as abusive as Ruby, or at least was never caught for it, but I vividly remember him talking about how one of his kids broke their arm, and he refused to get them medical help, because the doctor didn't do anything they couldn't do at home. Looking back at it now, his kids were getting severe injuries a lot more often than seems normal, especially for young kids...I don't know, but he was definitely neglecting his kids, and I feel bad for them, and I hope they're doing okay now.

I wonder about that honestly. I might be making a reach here, but if the mormon church is so concerned with image as ex members say, and a significant part of the town RF lived in was basically mormon, and abusing kids is bad for the image... Especially if the LDS was actually giving RF money for making what's essentially an ad campaign for the LDS... Like, was the nurse/doctor/CPS agent part of the church as well?

    • @Skaði
      @Skaði 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@Oosterink yeah unfourtunatly i think it would matter. I don't know (well maybe a little from an outside perspective) how strict USA is with sperating (religion) believes from work but as we see in their goverment I don't think it would be strange if that happened. And looking at mormonism there is already a lot of abuse going on from elders but also from parents, it's nothing new or recent there are countless stories from people who have been heaviily abused by people who follow mormonism or (f)LDS. But I wouldn't be suprised that the people called in (CPS, police etc) would be involved in the religion as well. If i remember correctly the bodycam mentioned something like this, or a cop in the on call team did but has been a bit since ive watched that.
Also don't forget they are very influencial in the area they are in, I wouldn't be suprised either that that would have some benefits for them as well. Even though (and I believe that it is the same in the USA as for the country I am in) you have to give an oath as a doctor, nurse to do no harm and to the best of your ability to protect and take care of your patient, i do think those types of people who use their religion to hide behind would abuse that or put their religion and their religious books first before the job they should actually do. But then again America isn't very famous for the separation of curch and goverment so what do you expect
      🤷‍♀
