      @@adamwilson4834 The forests here are mostly soft woods, pine, spruce, hemlock, douglas fir, western red cedar. For hardwoods, soft maples, alder, arbutus (madrone), and a few small patches of Garry Oak (protected)

    • @karl_alan
      @karl_alan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamwilson4834 Mostly, yeah. The vast majority of what we have around here is pine or western red cedar.
      There are some native hardwood species that you can find on the coast more, but usually that is either Myrtlewood or Bigleaf Maple, both of which are pretty soft for hardwoods, and pretty boring and taupe colored.
      Most of what is around here because of how huge the logging industry is, are softwoods.
      There are some species other of oak and ornamental maples, but mostly just the types that don't get more than an inch or so in diameter and end up more like bushes.

Dad said that if he and Norm switched shops, Norm would still smoke my Dad in furniture building. I disagree. This video demonstrates how few tools someone really needs to build a good piece. It comes down to imagination, skill, and determination. Thanks for being back some good memories and yes, nice stool.

      That was a bad one, sorry. This video showed me that a single chisel is really useful tool even in the woods. I once considerd adding a chisel to my bushcraft tool bag, but hesitated, because it looked too carpentery like. A pro user can do amazing things with only one piece of metal, which is also light by carrying. So a great choise for the bag. Add there just a good quality folding saw and your ready to go.

    Where is a beaver when you need one

    Channeling your inner rodent with a tiny tooth. IMO sometimes easier than chunking impossible stock with brute force and over-confidence in hardened steel (which utterly fails). Loving your channel while gaining my own skills, a great perspective improvement over a once clog-skeptic. $0.02

    I don’t know...that guy that helped you cut the log seemed like he might be a tool...

    You should have just asked a beaver to do the whole lot for you. One 'tool' I.e. their teeth! Faster too!!!
