BSides Orlando 2020 Preshow - The Nerdlist and Password Hashing

In 2018 Tarah Wheeler announced the beginning of Nerdlist, a project aimed at lowering the barrier of entry into security, and providing a place to take your first steps in the field. Making an announcement of a challenge relating to it at WWHF 2019, with prizes for those who crack passwords 'in the wild' using the wordlist that had been created. The project created and maintains a wordlist of 'nerd culture' references that may be (and anecdotally are) used as passwords. During the stream I hope to introduce the project, show the list, and demo it's use in cracking hashes of passwords. This demo will work from the bare minimum. From nothing, to cracking your first passwords and contributing to your first open source security project.
