We just did the cave art project with my son, Alee in Indonesia. It came out very well. I had an old cork pin board as the base, and used the White Glue, Sand from the neighbors, and plenty of pastels.
Hello Joe, I missed this creation which shame for a French !! Bravo, we would imagine in the cave of Lascaux, especially with this large format Joe you are always very creative Big kisses of France and also my very very old ancestors (lol) who thank you
Hi Lisa, thanks for your question! Texture paste will still be fairly smooth and won't achieve the same effect. You could use the paste instead of the glue, but you'll still need to add sand to it for this particular artwork. Feel free to experiment and make it your own though :)
This is a brilliant idea and it turned out looking very similar to the original, wow ! While my canvas is drying I went hunting for any download as good as yours but found only disgusting imitations :) So will have to draw looking at the original cave paintings ... unless you'd be so kind as to direct me to the download ? Is that available somewhere ?
Would using rocks work? I want to do this in my art class, but using all the glue and sand sounds like it would take foreeeeever to do for several classes.
Hi James, thanks for your feedback. For this project we wanted to show people how to create cave painting effects with regular art materials so that everyone could give it a go. We hope you find what you're looking for!

This is soooooo cool!
Fantastic!
The big przewalski horse looks like the Real one imo
Is it possible to use a texture/structure paste instead of sand? Would the pastels stick then?

This is epic
Could you paint acrylic over the sand?
Hi there, yes you can use acrylic over the sand :)
MontMarteArt Thank you!
To much enthusiasm for my dark heart 😂
Krista Hager ha ha too much enthusiasm for my weak heart😯

Hi there, thanks for your question! We're not sure what you mean by using rocks, but you could give it a practice run and see how it comes out ;)
@@MontMarteArt lol. Sorry. Should have been more clear. Have students paint the rocks, rather than creating a cave texture on canvas. 😄
for once I do not see any PDF to download (for the animals....)???
Hi Laurence it will be up today ok. Joe
Good stuff!! :)
cheers mate :)

Hi William! You can find the PDF here: www.montmarte.net/assets/Uploads/Cave-painting.pdf

That's not a megalosaurus
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. In this video, Joe is referring to a megaloceros giganteus, an extinct species of deer 😊
Your cave art is almost same as real cave art
Hi Hyeokpyo, that was the idea haha thanks for the comment. Joe
@@MontMarteArt so good
This is not what I was thinking. I want to know how to recreate the original materials used in cave paintings, not some mimic of the style.

In my homeschool history curriculum, it says you can smash up one of those red terracotta pots and mix it's dust with a little vegetable/olive oil.
