  • The Singapore government will make "significant moves" to improve Singaporeans' mental health and well-being, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 7).
Speaking on a parliamentary motion on advancing mental health, Mr Wong announced a raft of measures. These include increasing capacity at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and the redeveloped Alexandra Hospital and ramping up the number of public sector psychiatrists and psychologists. An additional 28,000 frontline personnel and volunteers will be trained, and mental health services will be introduced at all polyclinics and 900 more GP clinics. The government aims to implement these measures by 2030 or earlier.

I think the greatest blow to my mental health is the rise in cost of living every year. I dont think I will be able to afford my own home nor be able to start a family and provide my children with the education they deserve.
Can PAP help improve my mental health please?

It's all due to the rising cost of living, which the government can alleviate the pain, which then diminishes the mental health problem.

1st of all, we treat the humble and hardworking Bangladeshis like animals and criminally exploit them to no ends like the criminals we are.
construction and road workers in australia employ their own people, and they earn just as much, if not more, than PMETs.
why cant we exercise the same sort of economics and pay our own folks a decent and dignified wage for what is truly a horrifically difficult and dangerous job?
instead of being unemployed and despite searching endlessly for jobs, ah beng, despite having had no opportunities to go for tertiary studies due to various economic and/or personal reasons, is actually physically industrious and hardworking, and now earns at least $4000+, and is a valid and valuable member of society, contributing to society with his decent salary, building a decent home and a decent family, and supporting his aging parents.
2nd of all, since at least 1 decade ago, every 1 out of 2 people living in Sickandpoor, ARENT EVEN singaporeans. that's how much Sickandpoor has been invaded by foreigners.
3rd of all, stop being an egregious lying scumbag. road works and construction ARENT the ONLY jobs in singapore.
regardless, no matter blue or white collar, ALL the jobs have been given to foreigners, but ESPECIALLY PMET jobs, the most important jobs to a society. you name it, and its very probably already infested with exclusively worthless angmohs, or ceca pests.
meanwhile, sickandpooreans are left with only food delivery, security, and phv taxi "jobs".
you're a despicable fool for resorting to that egregious excuse of a "challenge".

Well he increased the taxes all over and then says people has mental health issues? I wonder why? Not everyone earns as much as him to have no mental health problems from the price hikes he has introduced. Thanks but no thanks! Stop forcibly increasing prices and people won’t have mental health issues.

It's so ironic that while these are good efforts to support mental health for the public, the very people who are supporting the public will then have to undergo more training and assessment, and hence take on more workload and more pressure to provide the service.
Why not prioritise putting in funding to open up more job positions and hire more people to do this service? Letting existing employees take on increasing responsibility is just squeezing them dry.

Dear Lawrence, with the pressures on your cabinet, this will be the best opportunity to lead the way by checking the entire MP line into IMH.
    Let there be no shyness.
Please do not resort to spending money not available to the public at large of piting mental specialist against specialist to get a clear certification .
Better to check in as a back up.
After all, surely , the toil on MPs job must be best cordinate at IMH.
While, there, maybe you can address weaponisation of Mental health as a new aspect in our society.
If every MP and community leaders are registered as imates at IMH , then there will be an more open acceptances with Public.

If costs of living are to reduce, definitely everyone will have no stress incurred due to high costs when our basic roof under our head are so small and expensive when everyone pays till they old also no money left for survival not to mention retirement worst those seniors especially who don't who don't have high salary contributions when they reached 55 only return 5k n have to wait another dark 10 years before they can receive their whole-life hard-earned c p f money many even with no siblings n no education so don't know how to make nomination, in the end government will " forfeit " those have no nomination thus causing more reserves build up, yet not willing to spend on our locals needs especially medical even " subsidy " are costly one have to bear with high medical fees
