    Great videos I have a 1982 115 merc just had carbs rebuilt it took three months and cost 1000 Got boat back. It ran good for an hour then back to bogging out now it won't start unless I put gas down the carbs its got fresh gas new gas lines new fuel pump I am completely stumped any suggestions would help thanks

    • @MerCSonL6
      @MerCSonL6  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check your float levels. The fuel should bubble (possibly leak a little) out of the front brass venturi when the bulb is primed. If you hit that brass venturi with compressed air it should force/splash fuel out of the main nozzle in the middle of the carbs. Let me know. Son

    buddy gave me a older boat with a 1978 90hp 900 tower of power. I wasn't sure if it was worth saving, every wire was rotted bad. I found a wiring diagram and after changing a bunch of short wires under the cowling due to rot. I got it running and boy does it run strong. I need controls and the lift mechanism does not work rams have water in them, the wires are all rotted not sure if pump works yet. I only have one working cowl clamp all the plastic ones are snapped. I need a good lower unit as well. Where do I get parts? would it be better for me to buy a parts motor or try and get everything off ebay?

    • @MerCSonL6
      @MerCSonL6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both. Finding parts on a nearing extinct engine can be challenging. Exhaust all resources. Definitely worth the gamble. Son

    I have several of these antiques but they give solid dependable performance, One question though, These flywheels are not indexed to the crankshaft, on my 1st engine I stupidly removed the flywheel ( even thought I marked it accurately. I though) and had to asemble and disassemble the engine several times before I got the right timing belt teeth engaged, You should do a video on this topic as I am sure others have had the same timing problem as I,

    I have a harness with a blue wire not sure where it goes any clue? An what does your choke look like on your dash? Is it part of the key ignition?

  • @lmt-adventures
    @lmt-adventures ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bottom my trigger has yellow wires under it yours are black, anyway wires have melted rubber covers where the wires and trigger meet. Is that from overheating?

    • @MerCSonL6
      @MerCSonL6  ปีที่แล้ว

      Trigger wires do not "overheat." The electrical current to trigger the capacitor is miniscule to the overall operations of the engine. Son

    • @lmt-adventures
      @lmt-adventures ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MerCSonL6 Hmmm, now I wonder why there is melting there. Even the plastic air screen filter in front of carb intake manifold is melted at bottom.

    Best channel I found for mercury outboards.So much detail.
    I have a 1972 1150 inline and it sounds like I’m having the same problem. My switch box has some spark but it doesn’t look like it’s enough/healthy. Is this ok?

    • @MerCSonL6
      @MerCSonL6  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I would verify a faulty switch box first.

    • @JessiahsWorld

      MerCSon L6 I also heard the click in the distributor when my fly wheel is tdc. Does this verify that the switch is getting power to the distributor?

      remove the flywheel,and count the stator coils then divide by 2. you will have a setting on you tach with this number. ,just set it to that number, Tach has three wires one for power one for ground and one for sender. Ignore the mer book and hook the sende r wire to one or the other AC side wire terminals on the rectifier. Power being ignition.
