  • Here is a short film detailing the restoration of a 14 inch "Star MK 2", a vintage 1930's Pond Yacht. These early style yachts are now increasingly hard to find they were originally manufactured with a long steel keel and a rounded stern. This lovely shaped yacht was manufactured for only six years, from 1933 until 1939 when the hull shape was changed and then named Endeavour 2.
The hull was painted using eight coats of "Clotted Cream" an acrylic gloss paint over six coats of primer and finished with a blue pin stripe, the deck has been replaced using Birch ply finished with six layers of yacht varnish and then polished.
This Star MK 2 has been fitted with all new bowsprit, jib and main sail booms (to the correct dimensions), brass fittings, and ferules. Sails are made using lightweight white rot free and water proof "Dacron" racing sail cloth.
Sadly the original 1930's brass badge was lost many years ago, but hopefully this little yacht will now survive for another 85 years!
This vintage sailing yacht is now ready to sail on the yacht pond but the "Star MK 2" will make a statement piece in any hallway, bathroom, library or living room.
"Britannia Pond Yachts" are creators of hand-carved and beautifully finished wooden free sailing pond yachts made with passion the old-fashioned way.
We want to help promote the absorbing traditional past-time of sailing pond yachts for future generations to come, so to do this we build every single one of our yachts using vintage plans, methods, and materials, this allows us to extract the very best sailing performance from our yachts whilst incorporating the style and beauty of model yachts of an age gone by.
Our Pond Yachts make ideal centre pieces in the house and come with a free stand when not under sail and are suitable for all ages, they are hand made in Cambridgeshire England and are guaranteed to sail every time.
We can ship our yachts all around the world, please enquire.

As a restoration I will say it is perfect and well done, but you have taken the yacht and removed its soul and left it somewhere on the work bench along with its age. Star used cheap cotton for the sails also having that star logo, Brass fittings where a thing of their dreams though tinplate did suffice in production. Please Please try to keep in mind that an Item is only original once, if you do another leave some of its age won scars for all to see and not like it was purchased yesterday. A well done project but next time if there is a next time please be more sympathetic in your fine work.

Could you do a video on making the sails? I’m trying to restore my own and I’m struggling to make sails..
