16 assists is ridiculous. 2nd most in a game in Purdue history
So is 50 free throws
@@jaredgorsuch3176Chris Collins said he was going to use 15 fouls on Edey. Purdue was driving to the rim constantly while Northwestern settled for threes and jumpers. Northwestern played extremely physical the whole game and got what they asked for. You probably didn’t even watch the game
How close we really were to coming to Mackey Arena and winning. Just a little more power from Buie, but I’m fine with this loss, I think we deserve to be still top 30 for taking purdue to OT on the road
If you can shoot over 50% from 2 and 3 consistently like you do against Purdue you are a top 10 team. I’m saying this as a Purdue fan.
Ofc the problem is consistently shooting like that.
@@Pizmos yeah, we’re an incredibly inconsistent team (especially on the road) I think another problem is Matthew Nicolson’s foul issue, where he fouls out every other game, and during OT Edey dominated since we didn’t have a body that could actually defend him
@@Pizmos If you look at the stats from Northwestern vs Nebraska, you will see how easily that game could’ve gone to our side, however we had terrible shooting splits (2-15 from buie) and have had 1 total game this month with more made free throws than the opponent, in the win vs Illinois. For reference, we beat Ohio State by 25 and they had almost double the amount of made free throws than we did, 25 of their 58 points were from the line.
You guys are a great team and Buie is a generational talent; never seen a guy that shows up in crunch time like him. Also love Collins as a coach; I’ll be scared if we draw you guys in the B1G tournament
Thank you for the consistent quality! Appreciated 👍
These Northwestern Wildcats are no joke! They almost swept Purdue, and I expect them to make some noise in the tourney
Best game of the night
NW planned to use 15 fouls solely against Edey. The hack at 6:36 was an epic example. Coach C has nothing to complain about when assigning fowls.
Trying to foul in a college basketball game should result in 25 free throws, not 46. Especially when the other team is only shooting 8. I have zero dog in this fight but that just simply cannot happen in a college basketball game
No kidding. The man complains in post conference about the foul disparity, yet they played HARD in the paint all game. They didn't just mug Edey, they contested every shot inside and around the paint.
Can’t wait for march. Which 16 or 15 seed is it gonna be this year 🤡
@@highlightcenter5651 How to say you didn't watch the game without actually stating that fact. If 70 fouls are committed but only 30 are called, did the refs do their job effectively? They even announced his plan at the 50 second mark. Clearly there are a great many things that elude your grasp.
Exactly the way to play Edy, hack him, hammer him, whatever you have to do, make him make his FTs, usually he does is the problem for the other team.
Edeys 15 points streak for Purdue was a game saver
The refs were the game saver. Fixed it for ya.
When you have inferior athletes, you have to foul to defend...
@@douglastree LOL Yeah, cause Purdue is blessed with such great athletes, thus why the continually get exposed by teams with elite guards and wing players. FYI, the game @ Welsh Ryan, Purdue 27 fouls & NU 29 fouls. @ Mackey, Purdue 15 & Northwestern 31. Yep, in that month the Wildcats must have gotten much less athletic!! It had nothing to do with home cooking, right??!!
NPOY
@@jethrotroll5442 Athletic can mean different things. Buie is probably the best guard in all the college basketball. But he doesnt require fouls to stop him. Zac Edey is by far the most dominant big in college basketball. All those fouls down low would have been 2 point dunks had Northwestern not fouled him. Lucky for Northwestern Zac had his worst free throw shooting game of the season.
Awesome game. Really, really great game.
This was a good game, like the previous matchup in December.
Maybe Purdue and NU get to play a tiebreaker in the BTT later this year.
12:19, 13:10 --- i could go on and on about the fouls NOT called holding Edey's arms etc.
31 to 15 foul discrepancy in Purdue's favor. 46 to 8 FT discrepancy in Purdue's favor. I wouldnt be complaining about 'noncalls' on Purdue.
@@jethrotroll5442 I'm pointing it out to highlight how absurd your 'argument' is to the reality of what happened in that game and most every game Purdue plays.
@@olivedjazzer I've backed up my argument with actual statistics, despite how often Purdue homers pretend facts dont matter.
@@jethrotroll5442 - oh, man, how can I be so dumb that statistics paint such a beautiful picture of reality? Thanks buddy!
@@olivedjazzer It's part of the story, whether you believe it or not. You can think what you want, but to any non-biased, informed bball fan, it's blatantly obvious that the Wildcats got home cooked last night.
I know they won, but I think it's funny that Northwestern took Purdue to overtime and at Mackey Arena. I still think come tournament time Purdue will go down, Northwestern beat them already and only lost by 5 this time, and in OT.
Basketball is volatile and great teams struggle and sometimes lose. Same team lost to Chicago State at home, so it goes both ways.
Really difficult to predict the future in college basketball.
If and only if they can shoot above 50% from three again. Eventually water finds its level.
@@NeedofBeingVersedit’s easy to predict purdues future lmfao. It’s a guarantee early exit in march.
@@RicoSuaveTheGOAT Takes a brave man to troll on the internet.
@@NeedofBeingVersed who’s trolling? All I see are facts 🤡
I’m gonna laugh so hard when Purdue gets knocked out of the 1st or 2nd round in the tournament
Chicago State, really?
If Purdue wants to go far into March Madness, they need to improve on their defense.
Tbh they just played arguably a top 3 guard in the country.
Also NW guards hit about 7 contested deep 3s. If not for that anomaly it’s a blowout.
Yep, Edy gets taken to the hole by a smaller player a lot and gets scored on, as one example. But the consistency of shooters hitting 3's all around the country is just crazy, most don't even set up, catch it, fire, and bingo and many from 3-4 feet behind 3-pt line! Difficult to defense that.
That last call was ridiculous
yeah jones clearly grabbed him
dude stuck his leg out
He used his whole leg to block and trip him
@@prakashp2450 I’m a Purdue fan but the refs definitely missed a call there. It was a foul on jones
So was the knee the NU player lifted to try and take out Jones.
These calls are egregious...and I'm a Purdue student. Might be the luckiest we've ever been to win a game.
Boilers escape again! Good thing there was a big foul shot difference because PU lost the FG shootout. And if PU would have made their normal FT %, no OT. A fun game to be at Mackey, I'm sure noise was deafening! Been part of it myself in the '60's.
30 fouls on Northwestern
15 fouls on Purdue
Collins - "I'm going to use 15 fouls of my 3 big men on Edey." He got his wish. You should thank the refs for playing along.
There is your difference. The foul shot difference is because Northwestern committed them while Purdue was dunking on them. Purdue committed them while Northwestern wasn't in the act of shooting.
Can’t wait to see purdue get bounced first weekend again
Northwestern got rail-roaded (yes pun intended) in West Lafayette. 46-8 FT discrepancy??!! Come on, that's utterly ridiculous!! And the Wildcats still had a shot to win it in regulation. They got hosed - pure and simple!!!
That game was ridiculously physical. Anybody who has ever played basketball at any level knows that when you are outmatched, you try to be physical to make up the difference. The fouls were deserved for the most part.
@@douglastree Yeah, it was ridiculously physical but only called one way. Listen to you guys. You make no sense. Just admit that the Wildcats got home cooked!! It happens.
@@co94207 31 to 15 foul discrepancy. You cant spin your way around that .
@@jethrotroll5442, meh. "home cooking" is a conspiracy theory. Just a team overmatched down low that tried to foul to make up the difference. Maybe a bad call at the end, and NU coach is mad cause he had a chance for a season-defining road win.
@@douglastree Cool story. As long as it makes you feel better. Let's not forget that NU won the last 2 games between them, so they know how to play the Boilers. It only took a 46 to 8 FT discrepancy to beat them at home. Well done.
