“Poin-Ted stick” has been part of my vocabulary for ages because of this.

The weird thing about this sketch wasn’t so much the self defence against fruit, it was more thinking of things like mango, passion fruit and pomegranate all before a banana

Fruit as a weapon is no joke. Captain Edmund Blackadder once saved General Haig from a pygmy armed with a sharpened mango.

A "pointed stick" makes sense actually as a defence mechanism against attacking fruit. You can impale the offending fruit onto your "pointed stick" and make a vegetarian shish kebab ! Hmmmm ? Shall we go halves on the copyright for this Megan ? X😉

Raspberry and peach are my favorites. Raspberries are delicate and should be eaten soon after picking. Peaches are best tree ripened, until they soften to the touch. Once ripe they are less effective in hand to hand combat. Some places call nuts, dry fruit, as they are the fruit of certain trees and drier than other fruit. Coconuts make excellent weapons. 😂

It's a shame that they never made a sequel to this 'self defence against vegetables', due to a incident at Christmas 2010 I have never walk past brussel sprouts without breaking into a sweat😨

Occasionally, very occasionally, you'll come across an MP sketch which is just outdated and plain silly by modern standards, and this is one of those. But when you're as prolific as they were, it's bound to happen. Keep 'em coming, Meg. More Fawlty Towers, please - no duds there.

How in the world is it "outdated"? Have there been a lot of advances in fruit weaponization since the 70s?

Outdated how? 16 ton weights are still highly effective on unwanted callers, and I haven't had a single bill in the mail since I got a tiger.

Hi Meg, I grew up with Monty Python. I always thought some of it was bloody hilarious, but sometimes it was silly rather than funny.
