We call this "varum arishi Adai" I e. Only rice adai. Few notes on the traditional format:
1. Usually we make the batter slightly thicker. That way when you make it from outside to inside, the holes are larger. Our grandmother would make it thick enough to be patted directly on the pan and make 3 holes with her finger so that it would cook
2. We generally add chopped green chillies and ginger, rather than the paste You can also add drumstick leaves, methi leaves, or grated cabbage/carrot/cauliflower to the batter.
3. The best way to eat this is with white butter, molahapodi (Dosa podi) and oil. I don't ever remember chutney being served with this.
