Great episode and awesome guest. I think it made for a thought provoking/insightful episode. Enjoyed this episode a lot more than the last couple ones. Even Scott was fairly enjoyable to listen to this episode lol

Curse of Politics reminds me of Gzowski's Lewis, Camp and Kierans Morningside interviews that educated so many of us 30 years ago about the issues of that time. Thanks.

    I liked today's talk.
I have a test for a partisan to know if your opponent is winning. The test is when your subconscious starts to like your opponent and what they are saying. Just like Scott admitted to being unable to stop his subconscious with agreeing with Poilievre. This means the LPC is in trouble. It happen to me with Harper in 2006, I was an NDP partisan who just really like the guy in that election.
You guys are missing many of the coalitions that Poilievre is creating, one of them in the crypto coalition. The great thing for Pierre about the crypto crowd, is that you can promise and deliver them very favourable conditions for Crypto Currencies to succeed, and it won't alienate anyone outside of the Crypto crowd.

Agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. These guys that don’t fully understand the coalition he’s building are the ones calling it “crazy” but it’s clearly resonating with people. I truly think much of Poilievre’s appeal and support is not being captured by pollsters and if partisan Liberals and NDP think they are gonna walk all over Pierre in the next election, I think they will be very surprised.

I know the Libs can come up with something more sophisticated as time goes on, but currently a strategy of denialism and misrepresenting PP is all the partisan chatterboxes have been doing. This actually plays right into his hands because it's enraging to listen to. Scott is right that this is crazy, but I think their only real plan is to hope that things just get better on their own before an election.

As in previous elections, when the Conservatives failed to win simply by not being Justin Trudeau, so too will the Liberals next time need to stand for something other than simply not being Pierre Poiliviere. Many voters are not enthralled with Poilivere, but they may also come to the conclusion that Justin Trudeau isn't the answer.

we always talk about the federal provincial conflicts. One of the biggest problems with Canada is that there are not enough problems and many that we have are too big. We need to eliminate the provinces and replace them with regional governments based on water sheds.

We have regional governments. They’re called the municipal government.

New polls are showing that PP appeal is to his base and as he gets more known the more he gets disliked.

I get super entertained watching Scott and David try and figure out new strategies to change peoples opinions on very unpopular policies. People are sick of being told that it's a good thing that you're poor, because you're too stupid and racist to understand why it's important that you are. Oh, and definitely don't criticize our finance minister for doing nothing about your struggles... because if you do, you're a misogynist too.

    • @Niko-iv4ch

I think you really nailed it.
For some, it's not just that people are just sick of it. But in many cases this governments incompetence is directly at fault for their struggles. For example, delaying the approval of the Nova Gas Transmission back in 2020. They postponed the initial decision date deadline for no real apparent reason, and gave it an unnecessary extension to approve. Then on the last hour of the second self imposed deadline, they approved the pipeline. But in all that political posturing, the construction season for that pipeline was cancelled that winter because the feds took 6 months longer than normal to approve the pipeline extension. It put about 3000 people out of work for the winter. That is the equivalent employment of a auto plant.
So it's not just that people are sick of being told it is their fault for being poor. It is this government being completely tone deaf that they are directly causing these struggles.

@@Niko-iv4ch bingo. And then situations like recently where our ideologically driven supreme leader tells the press and Germany that there is “no business case” for LNG while most of Europe will inevitably freeze this winter, while Putin continues winning a war and raking in massive profits and the Chinese sell them Russian gas at an extremely inflated price, it all gets a little too much to tolerate. I think that people are really seeing through the facade now (I’m one of them who used to support our govt). But once you see the implications of governing on ideological theories alone, it’s pretty easy to call a spade a spade when it negatively effects all aspects of your life. And lastly, as David points out in his hey you this week, if the government wants to go after agriculture with this nitrogen ban, people will think the convoy protest last winter was a cute get together compared to the size of the protests coming when you can’t get food in the grocery stores.
I’m just enjoying the show at this point with my 🍿 handy while I can still get it. The ideologically driven left wing of this country are gonna have to come to grips with reality sooner or later.
