Love the: "i hate being negative" I totally get it. I think it’s absolutely fine in this instance and also feel this shouldn’t happen. They are exceptionally expensive, which is fine, but they should then also be very high quality and last long if taken good care of. I was looking for a review and i think i‘m not gonna buy them anymore
What’s so crazy to me is the non-helix ones are super robust. I’ve had them for years and they’ve held up great. But yeah I don’t really trust whatever process they used with the helix filters
@@BrentMorris I can't believe that is a concious choice by them. Maybe they changed the coating and now there's no going back but that's just sad. I was already thinking about getting them since there are other options out there for less
@The_Daliban yeah it’s definitely a coating issue, but I think that’s probably why they came out with that second series so quickly that’s “got a revolutionary coating” or whatever. I will say the everyday filter has been great. I bought the screw on ones for all of my lenses and just leave them on there. Then I add my old VND on top when needed.
That is super unfortunate. Supposed to be resistant? If not, that’s kind of overpriced. In my opinion. I’ve learned to pay for functionality over brand. I can always buy another $40 filter if I get a little scratch on it.
I’ve always had great experiences with Polar Pros other filters; no color casts, great build quality, etc. plus I swap filters a lot, so the helix maglocks seemed amazing; and honestly the circular polarizer has been. I’ve had it longer and it’s been in much rougher conditions and it was great. I wanted to add a VND to the quick release stuff and to me I was doing exactly what you said buying functionality. But this was ridiculous. I sat it in my jacket to protect it while I was using my drone and when I picked it back up scratch 🫠
If it was only laid down on the jacket then the only thing that makes sense is it was scratched by the zipper. They seem to be overpriced and the lock doesn't work very well based on other videos so I will just go with a screw on from Breakthrough or B&W.
I didn’t lay it on the zipper. I laid it down on the internal seam of the jacket. I mean I know the stitching on that seam is rough, but I didn’t think it was something that would cause an issue
I did but I haven’t gotten a response. It’s really odd, because I set the Helix CP down the same way on the same jacket no issues, and I’ve throughly used that original PM VND forever and it looks brand new still. I’m guessing it’s just a quality control issue, but it seems like I’m SOL and will just have to buy a new one. 🤷♂️ Otherwise it’s a dope filter the colors and diffusion are top notch, so just always keep it capped when not shooting I guess
@@BrentMorristheir customer service is absolutely horrendous. I asked them about troubleshooting my canon 16-35 that was vignetting - the website says it shouldn’t vignette at 16mm on canon - and they blocked me. I was not rude. I was not difficult. I wanted to like the helix maglock system. I did everything in my power to keep the filters. But after they blocked me, I had to send them back. Was so scared I wouldn’t a refund. Luckily I did. Could’ve been a terribly costly mistake
Sorry to hear that, I've been looking at these ones for the convenience but it seems all the reviews are sponsored so it's really difficult to find an objective take. Did they ever make it right or have you moved onto another system?
Nope they just exist as they are. I’m still using the circular polarizer, since it’s quite expensive, but I just don’t use the VND/mist and went back to my old VND and mist filters
Thanks for posting. I was researching these filters and have decided not to proceed with the purchase. This decision is due partly to your experience with their durability, but primarily because the company did not respond to your quality-related questions.
@BCPCamerasTech I hope it’s a QC issue so not everyone has to be so careful. But honestly otherwise it’s one of the best VND mist filters I’ve used. The way it diffuses is beautiful. I’m gonna buy another when I can save up for it and just be SUPER careful.
The build quality of these filters just isn't that good, so it seems. I own two maglock filters and several magnets and a metal piece came of within a week. Wouldn't reccomend these filters. This shouln't happen with expensive filters.

Did you reach out to them? Just got the same filter hope mine does better.

@Savag3ly that sounds like a nightmare 😳

I have one as well and i have the same within 2 weeks and i havent done anything strange with it. i am super caredul
It’s wild! The non-helix one isn’t nearly this sensitive

I can’t say that I blame you it’s a lot of money to be unsure about.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the mist coating specifically.
That’s the only variable, so it would have to be something like that
@@BrentMorris whelp just bought 7 of these so hope they don’t all do that. Sorry about yours man.

I agree. I don’t mind paying a premium price, but I expect a premium product in return
Did they ever reach out
Nope. They followed me on Twitter but never said a single word. I’m so bummed because these things are too expensive to be this fragile.
