Going clockwise you are 'looking' at a pattern of ascending 5ths. If you play clockwise it 'sounds' a circle of 4ths. Anticlockwise is the true pattern of circle of fifths as the chord/ pattern played becomes the dominant sounding of the previous chord/ pattern. As used in Jazz ii v i patterns.
Great lesson I like the progression and its really nice to listen as well I'm finding after a while my fingers are going to the notes automatically and I'm hearing the next phrase before it starts The last part is gonna take a while Thx
Been playing for a very long time, but my teacher failed to explain all of this. I loveee your videos their amazing your a great teacher!! thank you so much!!! So in this video everything about the minor, and what with the major?
I'm 60 years old. I've combined a life as a musician with that of a builder. I always wanted my own recording studio as I composed and produce music. In 2005 I returned to university to obtain a degree as I hadd4opped out of university then conservatoire in the 1980s without finishing the course. I was awarded an MA in Compositional Studies in 2007. I then taught piano, guitar, clarinet and sax for the next decade. I mention all of this because I was watching how you play the note Bb. I've received some excellent clarinet tuition over the years but never really had a saxophone lesson. I always play side Bb (A with the side key). I rarely play long Bb (both index fingers) and never play one finger Bb. It seems you have adopted a great slide technique to incorporate this Bb. Is this method much adopted or have you made this your own? I'm going to look into this a bit more. Great site BTW.
Hi Alan, on saxophone the default fingering for Bb is with the first finger in left hand holding down the little key (known as the biss key). You generally use this all the time except for when you're moving from Bb to B natural. However, I quite like the more blended sound so I will often use this, though strictly speaking it's considered 'incorrect' technique, but I've also seen loads of other pro sax players use it too. I hope that helps!
Love the lesson but… when you do the minor scale/ arpeggio exercise the sheet music says your starting in Cm but the sax starts at minor third up from C…Ebm and continues through the cycle. I’m sitting at a keyboard. Am I missing something?😊
Hi Rolf, thanks, the music displayed is in alto sax key, so you’re correct that is concert Eb, you can get the transposed concert pitch version of the PDF in the TH-cam library at www.onlinesaxacademy.com/
@@OnlineSaxAcademy Thank you for clarifying that. I worked out a nice 2 chord with the blues riff. Discovered that a rootless Gm7 is also a Bb. You’re are an incredible teacher and saxophonist. Thank you
Hows this Played the notes anticlock wise slowly unti I had them under my fingers without really thinking to much Then put on the metronome to 90 and kept going Then speed up when capable Gives the embroucher a workout 😳
Hi I seem to dip into the lessons, but would like to have a start point and a finish, like all scales , pentatonics ,etc .Do you have lessons like this ,where I feel I've completed a course ?
Hi Clive, I have lessons where you learn all 12 major, all 12 pentatonic and all 12 blues scales, I also a have a full list of scales both 1 octave and full range for all main types of scales in ‘the shed’ section of my website. Hope that helps!
Hi Bruno, TH-cam has translated subtitles in Portuguese that you can turn on, all my course content on my website also have Portuguese subtitles that you can turn on too. I hope that helps.
Hi Paul, very top video….could you provide the subtitles of the videos in Portuguese.....I'm in Sao Paulo city, Brazil - I'm subscribed to the channel!!🎷🎷🎶
Can anyone tell me what that square shaped thing is on the note? It’s not a sharp symbol or a flat symbol and I’m wildly new to this. Like don’t understand how to read sheet music kind of new.

What an excellent workout. I’m now compelled to pick my sax back up and start practicing.
That’s great!

Just one word: FANTASTIC!
Thanks Micha!
Thanks for the transmission of some John Coltrane's exercises and the way you play it makes it very pleasant to work it out.
Thanks!
Cool workout. Second phrase could alternate minor then major to simulate a II V pattern. Playing in all keys is a great thing, thanks.🎷
