Because it was their plan and chance to give that damn penalty. If this Oman referee checked at monitor, the situation will be more suspicious only on the referee so he just talked on his headphone and gave penalty to Saudi. That way, the guilt can be shared between him and VAR team if there is any investigation after the match.
Well, I mean, it’s international standard to give the referee the decision on reviewing the footage, but it IS the norm to check it regardless of written protocol.

Why penalty kick? Foot tackle clearly kicked ball away, not leg. (the other cam view from back is obvious but why not put in the clip). Full hi light showed ref first considered free kick outside. If foul due to pulling, it was made from outside. If either ref fast enough to follow the game or let it play on and later decide foul, it must b back as freekick outside, bcoz that action stops every following actions inside the box. That s why denying to watch VAR but follow what told from VAR team was believed ref take order to close eye make KSA win. By the way, hilight should add shot TH team shot hit top right corner that whole KSA just watched. That shot s the best hi light of this match. KSA won TH by doubtful penalty again and again... i really curious.

First of all why would AFC select a Omani to be the referee for the game when they are also arabs like saudi arabia and used Australians and a South Korean in charge of the VAR they should’ve used one of them as the referee, at least they aren’t from an arabic or Asean country would’ve been fair.
