    Excellent class Sir, geology and history. Old timers were looking for large deposits as those abounded back then. We sadly are chasing their scraps but they' d walk away from from a Eureka in todays world. ThanQ for braving the wind to share this with us also 👍🇺🇸

      Thank You Mark. We are always learning! It sure was windy n cold out there. I got out just before a storm hit. The hardest part is that we are looking for tiny clues exposed on the surface. If only we could see beneath the soil to bedrock in all areas!!!

    Thanks for taking the time to make these informative videos! We live in an area very, very, similar to that in the video, and not too far, with a few prospect holes and extinct placer claims yards from our residence We have always asked ourselves what motivated the old timers to dig a test hole right here? We kind of knew, but you have really increased our geology IQ! Your passion for this is impressive.

My gold prospecting friends think that I am crazy for focusing on the hard rock while they are doing the drywasher stream sluice thing, I like it all but my focus is hard rock. Lots of mini vugs in the host quartz. Bleached the iron out with some muriatic acid, the red is gone & very beautiful specimen, plenty of iron spots. I'm out of Durango some weekends.

    I like walking the roads that lumber companies cut into mountain sides. They expose lots of material previously covered by forest, and they aren't looking for minerals when they build these roads so any deposits you find are more likely to be undiscovered.

    • @ColoradoGoldCamp
      @ColoradoGoldCamp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are definitely great spots to prospect! I don't see much of that here in CO. Places like the PNW and Canada however lots of mountain logging.

      Upstate New York and most of newengland for that matter are on selective harvesting schedules for international paper company.
      The drawback being most of those states still observe the old kings law. Minerals are the property of the state. Thus they remain mostly unsearched for.

    • @ColoradoGoldCamp
      @ColoradoGoldCamp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Doc, I appreciate it! It actually is worth test panning old tailings piles. You can either gather samples and crush them to pan or your can sift fine tailings to pan. Ifsifting, it is best to dig down a bit because the heavies tend to migrate downwards.
