I get really pissed off reading all these comments from people judging his vocals from just one performance. Most people don't understand that singing is not like playing an instrument that you can pick up in any mood and just play it in the way you always do. When you sing all your emotions have a bearing on how you perform, because you are using only your body to create the tone and you have to be relaxed in the right areas to sing something like that. You can clearly see in his face that he is rather uncomfortable. That asshole in the audience giving him the finger should think about his actions. Self-doubt is your biggest enemy on stage.. And this is only one of many issues you can run into as a vocalist - noone writing comments knows how his in-ear mix was that night, or if he was actually sick (his face looks very pale). Before writing shit like 'Please find a new front man who can sing' or 'Eric's got absolutely nothing on Dan' think about your words having an impact.. Greetings from Germany and all the best!
well... when you are a singer, then your vocal chords and the whole respiratory system are your instruments. That's your job to be there, to perform perfectly. That is the reason you became a singer. It is clear beyond everything that this dude is not up to the task.
All the reason, eric looks quite sick and clearly uncomfortable not being able to perform a good performance. However he is a great singer, unfortunately this is one of the few good records that the band has recorded professionally, and of course that fuck a bit the instance.
Yes, eric looks exhausted. I love his voice and energy.

When I saw them live in NYC Eric was on point and his voice was very powerful. I think this was just an off night for him. Sad because this is recorded so well.

I haven't seen a single video of him performing well live, he's 100% a studio vocalist which is really disappointing. When I saw Skyharbor while they were on tour with Tesseract, Eric's voice gave out not even a minute into the first song.
Eric isn't used to touring, he got sick a lot on tour, last time I saw Skyharbor he couldn't perform sadly. Touring is really fucking hard anyways.

Poor Eric, he knows he's not at his best and you can see it in his eyes. Close your eyes man and sing, be the voice we know you are, the voice you know you are.
Eric started to come good around the 3 minute mark but struggled with the big notes and fry, still love his voice and have all skyharbor album's. I have learnt a bit vocally from this dude.
Dan is a good singer, no doubts. Eric is good singer too, he just different. I think this is main reason why he was criticized.

Everyone complaining about Eric not sounding like Dan has
1. Never tried to sing one of Dan's Songs
2. Doesn't understand that the band's sound is changing
3. Doesn't understand all the preparation from a technical standpoint Eric goes through
4. And most importantly needs to relax and let him intemperate the music in which ever way he wants
I've heard Eric perform this perfectly, so I'm not sure what's going on with him here. Maybe he's sick? Or he might not have feedback in his earpiece so he can't hear; It's really fucking hard to sing well when you can't hear your own voice.

because Eric doesnt hit all the notes, and is especially flat in the bridge. i attribute it to tour fatigue because i think Eric is a phenomenal singer.

His vocal range is just amazing
To be fair to Eric, Dan has the vocal range of a demigod...he can really belt. Eric is a damn good singer in his own right (if you doubt it, check out his performances with Meytal), but his range doesn't match with Dan. At least he's giving it a damn good try
What's funny is on the new album he hits a higher note than dan ever has with skyharbor.
I can barely hear the drums. How come that new new drummer never plays Anup's intro? I understand it's difficult but he could at least try.
I think it's better not to play rather than screwing it up. Anup should be this band's drummer. It is losing its mojo without Dan and Anup. I always had doubts on Emery's longevity; most probably he has burnt out.
AXELAGONY You are right. I just don't know how i feel about having the intro playing on a track in the background like that. I mean he could just "Simplify" the intro. That's what i do when something like too difficult for me to play.

I actually talked to him about that the last time they we're in Hamburg. He said he just never got to learn it and they've always used it as a sample live.

The lyrics and voice were written by and for Daniel Thompkins, and Daniel simply is the best rock singer out there right now. Stepping into his shoes and not altering anything about the tracks is pretty badass of Eric if you ask me. I can tell that that's no self-doubt in Eric's eyes, it's focus and concentration.
Idk about that, Eric's cover of Evolution in the studio is a *lot* different and doesn't look at all the same. I think he knew his voice was bad tonight and it compounded his nervousness at being on a live recording in the first place. I think this is the first professional live audio recording that Skyharbor has done with him.
It's not self doubt! Eric takes off his glasses while performing and everything is blurry to him and cannot connect to his audience as he can't see eye to eye... If it was an open arena, this wouldn't be the case. The vocals were spot on.
Indeed not the best performance of Eric as many stated, something might be wrong with the monitor or a bad day. Still think he is one of the most impressive vocalists I've heared so far.
Feels like the only positive additions to Keshav are the bassist and Devesh. The drummer skipping the intro for a pre-recorded loop was just bleh :/. Should check out Anup playing that stuff!

No no no, look. Others have seen him perform well, plenty of times. Its obvious the way he is constantly fidgeting with his earpiece that the f'in SOUND guy has no clue what hes doing. He probably cant hear himself at all. Most people have no clue what goes into performing live, changing climates/weather/new sound guys at new venues with possibly hoopty sound systems and mixers etc. Not to mention, the drummer started lagging cymbal strikes off the BAT. But Eric is awesome in my opinion. GO C-TOWN BWOYS!!!! CLEVELAND BORN AND BRED
I think you might be right, you can see him looking over at the sound guy and fiddling with his earpiece constantly. I don't think he could hear himself.

To everyone dissing the new vocalist, take a chance at singing one of Dan's songs with the band. Personally, I'd give a hell lot of credit to Eric and diss the new drummer instead. Aditya is weak as fuck and it baffles me as to why they chose him moving forward. His drumming throughout the whole of Sunshine Dust was so damn monotonous and borderline generic, to the point that certain well-arranged songs suffered majorly.
As an avid follower of the band, I really hope they find a drummer who's roots are in metal/prog, instead of the currently enlisted newbie, moving forward.

Vocals are way too far back into the mix. This guy is a good singer. I'd like to actually hear him.
I've seen HORRIBLE performances of Dan, just like from pretty much every vocalist ever. When you tour heavily, little sleep, sickness.... it all affects your voice. Singing is hard, and none of you can pull off the control he had here to make the best of it despite his voice giving in.

FINALLY someone who speaks some truth regarding Daniel's live performances, his voice has gotten so "wasted" throughout the years you can definitely hear him struggling in the present, it is in fact baffling to see people still defending him and make it seem like he is some sort of "god".

Eric normally sounds way better - but what the fuck is going on with the new drummer? his playing is not even tight. especially him trying to simulate the double base is just horrible. I'm hoping for some tight studio grooves.

He cant sing live. A lot of people defending him here, and his voice is beautiful on record, but im scouring youtube to find a video where hes on, or at least near the recording.
So disappointed in Eric's live singing ability. I'm not sure what's up with his forced vibrato but it sounds terrible and he should really stay away from it. especially since the songs he's covering never had it to begin with in every word.

I really want to believe that this was an off/burned out night for him, because you're so right. Even the songs he wrote and recorded sounded so forced and weak. I was pumped to see Eric's videos after he announced he would be joining - I'm a lifelong fan of Dan's but I was excited to see someone talented filling his shoes. I'm really hoping this was a fluke, and that all his covers and studio videos aren't just filled with studio tricks.

Now that being said, go back and watch performances after this and through 2019. This was literally just an off-night. If memory serves correctly, this was I believe one of his first shows with Skyharbor, and he is doing his damn best to interpret what another singer wrote with a near similar range. That being said, obviously you've heard the studio version of this. That is an equivalent of Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston in their absolute prime type of performance. Not even the original singer could replicate that live.
