I feel so sorry about yours Paphs. 😢 i am especially grateful for this type videos, because thanks to you we can be more aware how to care about ours orchids. Yeah you can justify replacing them, but it doesn't change the fact that it is so sad, when we know how much you loved them. 😢 i'd like you find some words to comfort you, but I only can say: THANK YOU for sharing bad things with us too. 💐 Until i found MOG i didn't have any house plants, cause i didn't found any that i liked until i discovered orchids. 😊 now i have above 100 orchids and 1 fern. 🤣
Seeing you make mistakes doesn’t make me see you as incompetent but as someone who makes mistakes like any other person and gives me confidence and makes me feel less bad about the orchids I damaged/killed. Thanks for these videos.
You’re such a good teacher 😊 seeing the best of us growers ( you) also have failures is quite encouraging and help us to relax; I can bet these orchids also fail in their natural environment too. Thank you for showing every side of your experience as a grower❤
Thank you for sharing your valuable experience Danny ❤️🙏 so sorry it happened to you 🌿 I just started my collection with some seedlings cause adult plants are too expensive. So fingers crossed I keep them alive long enough to offer me beautiful blooms 🌸
I recently moved into a house with a huge old rose, I feel so fortunate to inherit such a huge beautiful plant! cant wait to give her some much needed tlc that the original owner would be happy with :)
The old roses are so fragrant! However, becoming more rare! Breeders traded the fragrance for frequency of blooms. Look at old homesteads that are being torn down.
Your realness is refreshing… I am experiencing issues in my grow room from pests, fungus and crown rot. Crown rot in a mini paph… and like you I am cussing!
hi dani, i am so glad i found your youtube channel. i had no idea there were so many orchid varieties, i have only known cymbidiums and catleyas. i was give a Paph for my birthday, so i started looking and found you. i am now venturing into the orchid world and trying some new (to me) varieties. thank you for all the wonderful clear information.
So sorry for your Paph losses. Thank you tho for sharing this as it is so helpful for those of us that may be experiencing the same. I just received my first Paph yesterday. Keeping fingers crossed.
I have studied variegated plansts and you’re absolutely correct so the more light you use the more variation you’ll get. It’s like this with more variegated plants . They need more light though
I live in Houston,Texas we had a very bad snow storm a short time ago and my Orchards where on the front porch and was hit by some snow it was in February 14 and 15 of this year 2021 .I have had them for years and they were always beautiful every year . Now they are gone so I bought some more and I am keeping them in doors from now on thank for your show
Sorry to hear about your Paphs. Slipper orchids are really pretty, it's such a shame. I hear you on the water, with just a few drops it's a brown spot and with the right conditions that can even take out the whole leaf! I'm sure you'll find even more beautiful Paphs in the future.
I just love your videos, and I learn so much. I live in Northern Ontario Canada I only have two small phallunsis . I keep mine in an east window and enjoy every day.
Oh Dani! You got the phapeopedilum to finally be happy and then this happens. So sorry for you😩. Hopefully you can find them at a reasonable price. ❤️🌸
Thank you for sharing! I am starting my semi annual pest prevention this weekend so you gave me a perfectly timed reminder to be careful with the Paphs.
Oh dear! It's all about the learning. I love your advice which has saved some of my orchids. Congratulations on your rose bush. Your recipe for rose jam/conserve/marmalade would be welcome. I would keep the Rothschild for another year to check if it would grow to your expected type. Then if it's not, ( get rid of it) gift to a new home. Thanks Danni, your videos are greatly appreciated.🙂🌟
This year, the high heat and humidity (70%+), fostered all sorts of bad guys, the yard and garden plants had a weird growth cycle or lack of it (Chicago, USA)
Awe😔....it's always such a bummer when a plant or plants have something happen to them. It depresses me because it was in my care & now I caused something to happen to them. Sorry to hear about your mishap 😥
I felt the same way with my Aliceara as you with your rothschildianum. It blooms a beautiful green, but fades to deep yellow. I was very disappointed because I liked the green. But it’s grown like 12 new pseudobulbs in the last year and only one flower spike. Good thing I like its foliage!
O....M.....G...... Your Rothschildianum (to me) is amazing !!! (Really wish I lived in the same country as you, because I would TOTALY give him a proper home.) As to the Paphs, I am so sorry. As a very tiny consolation I have learned from your misfortune. I am bringing home my first Paph today, and I swear - I am never going to shower it.
yeah, I grow paphs inside the humid tank and even with two fans running in there and me being vigilant about leaving even single drop of water on the leaves - occasionally I get crown rot on them.... I learned that lesson long time ago but still the evil water drops sometimes sneak in to the crown...
Hi Danny yes is this hobby have to accept the unexpected. Had a phal that I thought be able to push a keiki out (without keiki paste). When a keiki finally appeared fungus took the whole plant. If I changed the spagnum moss when I saw the keiki probably be successful 🤷.
I like using 550 size nylon paracord for my wicks. Easy to clean, reusable, self-priming. Just melt the ends and you're good to go! I'm so paranoid about moisture in the crown or leaves especially after a repotting where I've rinsed the roots, I run a low-speed fan to facilitate air circulation and evaporation. So far, so good. The other day, I changed the water using my typical filtered and processed tap water for two of my full-hydro plants. Oh my!!! Within two days or so, the smell, the rot...I almost lost the plants. And these have been in water for years!!! I have no clue as to what happened. And I'm not sure why I rechecked those plants like I did as they are usually good to go for a couple of weeks. I can only conjecture there was something in the tap water that one time that bypassed my filter that caused the problem. Maybe that is what happened to your paphs. Thanks for sharing this situation.
Sorry about your orchids getting rotten. Just a question. I see your pots (ceramics) dot have slits in them for light to get in. I have some that have openings for air flow is that ok? My plastic pots from repot me have slits and holes made with a hot screwdriver. Is it ok to leave my orchids out of the ceramic pots for a day? I do know they will dry out faster.
Awwww! You would be completely justified to cuss! I’m pretty sure I would have a curse fest if it happened i me. 🤗 but thank you for the warning. You are saving orchids all over the 🌎
when people talk about how it's fine to have water in paph/phal in the crown as rain will flow there in nature, i remind them in nature there's natural ventilation. in buildings, theres little to no air movements to quickly dry the water up.
I learned from you to keep the crowns of my orchids dry. I’ve have also grown African Violets which do not like their crown wet. If and when I ever spray the entire plant, It gets tipped sideways to drain off excess water, then a paper napkin to dry the crown. A hairdryer on low without heat will remove excess water too.
It definitely mislabeled😥😥. Even though I haven't seen Rothschild very often but I noticed that most of the Rothschild tend to have narrower leaves than other multifloral leaves. Also i think what you have is some kind of Paph.gigantifolium hybrid due to the shape of petals or maybe it's Paph. Hung sheng eagle but in bad shape of flowers😂
Okay so I need to know how to make that ROMANIAN ROSE SYRUP 🌹 🤤 it sounds delightful!! I'm sorry about your paphs 💔 I've had paphs with a really strong poker-face before - they act like everything is fine until one day it just flops over because the stem has rotted. How's Maya, did she lay her egg? What do you do with the eggs, if both of your doves are ladies?
.....to take more as so many are ripped out of gardens in favour for modern roses with no thorns, but there is nothing to beat the colour, size and scent of old English roses,I am sure you will have a home where you can grow your grandmother's rose Bush.
I hope you don’t lose any of your favorite Paphs. Hopefully new growths will grow and save them. I would let the Rothschildianum go to someone else. They take up too much space and time to tolerate blooms like that.
If you shower your orchids you have to have a lot more airflow. The excess water evaporates and becomes humidity. This is one of those balancing things. The more air flow you have the more you will have to water. So if you water you really have to drench or else your orchids will dehydrate.
my paphiopedilum philippinense also suffered from that, i dunnow if he will survive since there is only one fan left , i thought they will not suffer from crownrot since they are upright in nature
I'm so sorry about your paphs! It's heartbreaking 😭 And they looked so healthy. I hope you can find all the same species to replace them. At least the phalaenopsises are fine. The brassocattleya your mother bought you is beautiful. You didn't mention the plant's name. Could you make a video of it when it blooms?
Did you pahs got crown rot from a single shower? I shower them quite often actually because I thought, well they are semiterestrial so they might be fine with the water on the leaves, and they are still fine. From watching your paphs, I'll never do that again
Hi Danni, please help , I cannot get rid of mealy bugs on my orchids. I’ve tried mealy bug killer spray , neem oil. Now all my orchids are infected. I have to clean each mealy bug of , time consuming with a fine paint brush. Please help Kind regards Nina Kind
Buna Dani !

Oh Dani. So so sorry to see your orchids that couldn’t be saved. You put on a brave front. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your realness is refreshing… I am experiencing issues in my grow room from pests, fungus and crown rot. Crown rot in a mini paph… and like you I am cussing!
Hey Danny, don't worry I've done this too. 😅
So sorry about your paphs. It’s been a particularly tough year for you with climate and pests.

Finally an answer to the “chewed” leaf on my phal!! Thank you! Time to get out the leaf shine 😬
I have studied variegated plansts and you’re absolutely correct so the more light you use the more variation you’ll get. It’s like this with more variegated plants . They need more light though
Consolation prize: I will definitely think twice and be more careful about showering my one special most common paphiopedilum👍🏼
I live in Houston,Texas we had a very bad snow storm a short time ago and my Orchards where on the front porch and was hit by some snow it was in February 14 and 15 of this year 2021 .I have had them for years and they were always beautiful every year . Hey Danny. Those indentations you saw on your phals. I get them too but not because of thrips but because of earwigs!! They love the crown too.

that Paphiopedilum rothschildianum was gorgeous, not sure why you'd be so disappointed...
So sad about your Phaps. So happy about your Vanda, aka Baby V. she's adorable! 😍😍😍😍
I have many old and traditional roses in my garden I have taken cuttings from most of them and probably try
I think it's definitely mislabeled. I've also had the same experience. I still have the orchid though. :) I enjoy your videos ! Thanks for posting!
I love the 1st orchids bloom! I wish I could have it but can't afford it.
I just love your videos, and I learn so much. I live in Northern Ontario Canada I only have two small phallunsis . I keep mine in an east window and enjoy every day.

It looks like one of your paphs could be saved (the largest of the fans). I'm so sorry for you loosing them!
Hey ...I have learnt my lesson of crown rot 😭 ...so I stick to soaking the pots as the the safest option
I adore Rose Petal Jam (Preserves)! I will eat anything rose flavored! It brings me Joy!
This year, the high heat and humidity (70%+), fostered all sorts of bad guys, the yard and garden plants had a weird growth cycle or lack of it (Chicago, USA)
I did this to mine as well. Total loss by crown rot. Only two, but I haven't tried them again since.
Awe😔....it's always such a bummer when a plant or plants have something happen to them. It depresses me because it was in my care & now I caused something to happen to them.

+1 for Paph Hung Sheng Eagle (Gigantifolium x Rothschildianum) 1st Bloom on multifloras is almost never great so maybe better next time?
Same happened to mine... Will also be repurchasing new ones 😢😭🤧
Hey MOG! What happened to the monthly orchids in bloom? I haven't seen a new video recently. Cheers!
I made some rose jam this year, its so good 🔥💯🏆

hi, what is the name of the orchid in last part? in the outro part, it has beautiful grow pattern.
So sorry about your paphs 😭😭😭
Oh No!!!!! All your Paphiopedilums!!!!! Still....silver lining...you can decide which new ones to go with to replace them all!
Awwww! You would be completely justified to cuss! I’m pretty sure I would have a curse fest if it happened i me. 🤗 but thank you for the warning. You are saving orchids all over the 🌎

sorry about your paphs Danny I have lost one of my path rothschildianum ,too.[P.S. Ithink it's a paph stonei x rothschildianum]
What is the oil you spraying on the phals????
.....to take more as so many are ripped out of gardens in favour for modern roses with no thorns, but there is nothing to beat the colour, size and scent of old English roses,I am sure you will have a home where you can grow your grandmother's rose Bush.

What are you spraying on the orchids?
Hmm I water my paphs twice a week with a hose and I never get rot but I guess its because I grow in a greenhouse. Did you do it early in the morning?
If you shower your orchids you have to have a lot more airflow. The excess water evaporates and becomes humidity.
This is one of those balancing things.
The more air flow you have the more you will have to water.
So if you water you really have to drench or else your orchids will dehydrate.
Hi, I believe you might have yourself a Paphiopedilum supardii or a hybrid of it
I just saw a paph for sale on Etsy that was a paph lady Isabelle that looked like the one you thought was a rothschildiana
Sorry about your paphs😔. Show your cattleya reppoting/ cleaning on a video. It would be nice to see 💫
Here in northern europe we grow old tender tea rose variety as a houseplant.
What is the last type of orchid the one your mom got you?
my paphiopedilum philippinense also suffered from that, i dunnow if he will survive since there is only one fan left , i thought they will not suffer from crownrot since they are upright in nature
My mom used to make rose petal jam. The roses have to be a fragrant variety. She passed down the recipe but I've never made it.
Could it be an Angel Hair paphiopedilum instead of a Rothschildianum
I'm so sorry about your paphs! It's heartbreaking 😭 And they looked so healthy. I hope you can find all the same species to replace them. At least the phalaenopsises are fine. The brassocattleya your mother bought you is beautiful. You didn't mention the plant's name. Could you make a video of it when it blooms?
I run my microfiber strips up the sides of the pots on 3 sides and work just like spagnum moss…ps I use leca.
I have really been wanting a paph because I heard they were easy but now dont know.
sorry for those Paphs :(
Did you pahs got crown rot from a single shower? I shower them quite often actually because I thought, well they are semiterestrial so they might be fine with the water on the leaves, and they are still fine. From watching your paphs, I'll never do that again
Paphiopedilum stonei 'In-Charm' x self?
Anybody knows where I can purchase an Oeceoclades spathulifera in Europe?
Hi Danni, please help , I cannot get rid of mealy bugs on my orchids. I’ve tried mealy bug killer spray , neem oil. Now all my orchids are infected. I have to clean each mealy bug of , time consuming with a fine paint brush. Please help
Kind regards

Mislabeled orchids are sometimes good or bad. Once i got a dendtobium sarawakensis mislabled as another species. It looks like a rothschildianum x phillipinesis or something else
Paph. supardii x sib ('Dragon Dance' x 'Golden Boy') ?
So sad. I only have 1 American beauty and I would be devastated if I lost it 💔
Danni, your 'Paphiopedilum rothschildianum' is definitely mislabelled. What you have is Paphiopedilum supardii
That Paphiopedilum looks like a Paph. stonei.
I agree. I saw it and immediately thought that too. It’s a magnificent stonei. You should keep it Dani. They are quite lovely too.
what are the cats 12:40 and 12:45?
I am so sorry that you lost so many
When you showed your pics of your "rothschildianum" I immediately thought Paph. stonei... highly likely it's mislabeled :(
Looks more like a Paphiopedilum supardii
Looks like a supardii, when I first saw it i thought it could be gigantifolium but it appears you’re correct
@@brokenkeys1112 I also thought about gigantifolium. It’s hard to tell with the pictures shown. I went with supardii for the availability and gigantifolium has white ovaries.
Oh no! How many paphs did you lose?
The first Orchid that you showed us that you were very disappointed with if you want to get rid of it I would love that it I love orchids
I've never even heard of "showering" paphs.
💚💚
Oh....my paphio..... ㅠㅠ
RE: the *not* Rothschildianum- Maybe Paph. supardii?
I am no expert but it looks an awful lot like Paphiopedilum Sanderianum but the sanderianum's petals looks twisted and longer than that, or maybe it's a hybrid (?)
Either way, I feel sorry that it's mislabeled :(
Not sanderianum for sure, it’s likely a supardii which another commented had said
很喜欢你的视频。👍👍👍👏🙏
The disappointing orchid looks beautiful to me, I actually like the legs curved...I would love to take it off your hands when you want to get rid of him 😁 I have large offshoots if an orchid I bought over 25 years ago, that I would love to swap for him if you want, but I know that the idea is you want to make room 🙂
I have not watched the rest of the video yet...
The hardest thing to know is how much and when to water. You arent alone, believe me.
