- The song by Henry Purcell (1659-1695), an English composer, is from 'The Indian Queen' (semi-opera). Text is by John Dryden and Robert Howard. The plot concerns the impossible scenario of war between the Incas of Peru and the Aztecs of Mexico. Aztec queen Zempoalla sings of her unrequited love for the warrior Montezuma in this minuet en rondeau. The realization of the song is by Benjamin Britten (1913-1976).
