Oh man, i think you just saved my course! Im being shown to cut the metal into a slight arc and not matter what im ending up with far too much metal for the depth of the stone and getting a slightly off balance collet because of it, I'm going to try your method, seems much simpler and easier to calculate, thank you for uploading this video.
@jeweleralmighty8354 just tried it there and so far so good, much easier and quicker to get the size needed and it's not overly deep plus the trick of turning the collet over after the initial tapping into the block seems to have worked a charm. Glad you came up in my search! Keep up the good work!!
Hi! This is a great tutorial but I already knew the measurements for the round gemstone. I'm actually looking for the measurements for an oval shape. Since there are two different measurements for the diameter would you simply add them together and add .50 to that measurement? To date I've yet to find a tutorial on making a bezel using the bezel punch for an oval shape! It's so frustrating! Can you please help me out? Many thanks! Teri
Would you say a bezel punch is a must have for a beginning jeweler or should I invest my money elsewhere? I already have most everything else besides a rolling machine and tools needed for lost wax casting.
You can make bezels by hand but these block punches make it a lot easier. Professionally I would get a Rolling Mill before you invest in a block punch. In 30 years as of this October I've made it a habit when I have a good month to invest in tools and in return you become more of an asset and your customers will get better quality of work. Thanks for the question I hope it this helps.
Yeah yeah good but why do all videos focus on the round block. I need to know, how to use the square and emerald block without splitting my cones...... Please
Great video but background music made it difficult for me to pay attention to everything said so I found myself rewinding the video a lot in the beginning.

excellent tutorial Sound quality is really bad..
Thank you and yes I'm working on it
The problem I had was that I was that I hammered the punch more than I hammered the tube into the block
