I didn't expect to see a "We don't talk about Bruno" pmv about the Pillars. I find those both so sweet when I think about it, though I don't remember what I felt about them when I watched the movie/the episodes.
I know we all think Star Swirl's good, but he's an old warlock who shut Stygian into the darkness!!! The other Pillars aren't to blame, they stood by Stygian when Star Swirl ignored him when Styg was forming the Pillars, they only followed Star Swirl's orders, and the others (especially Somnambula) knew what friendship is! Even Sunburst said to Stygian that Star Swirl was a bad guy himself! Star Swirl kept shutting down Twilight, with no regard for the fact she has wings and is a princess! Stygian told Sunburst that Star Swirl would constantly put the Royal Sisters (who were still young) in great danger, even to the point of ignoring Celestia's bullying of Luna's poor magic abilities! He even tried to sacrifice Somnambula at one point, had it not been for Stygian who jumped to protect her from the Pony of Shadows, Star Swirl would've killed Somnambula! Plus Star Swirl also tried to abandon Stygian for nothing at all before their fight about the artifacts, Stygian told Sunburst that Rockhoof and Meadowbrook told him, that Star Swirl was trying to "take down" Stygian because Star Swirl thought that since the one who formed them had no power or magic, Stygian, quote "was gathering the pillars like torches to burn a fire bright, without thinking what to do when he [Stygian] too ignites, that he was trying to take their power for his own", Stygian said to Sunburst that he, with the other 5 by his side, stood up to Star Swirl saying, quote: "Respectfully, you must believe me, that these gifts that they were granted, ar branches of a tree, I think of them more like the sun, not a group of little torches, but a light for everyone" and "When monsters hide in every shadow that is found, how could they hide if light could shine for all to see" But although Star Swirl gave in, the closer Stygian came to the pillars (specifically a romantic relationship with Somnambula in the comics), the closer Stygian got to them the more Star Swirl's ill-feelings built. So when Stygian tried to copy their artifacts to join them, Star Swirl told the Pillars he betrayed them and told them to force him away, without question, but Somnambula had seen Stygian's sad face as Star Swirl shamed him away from Ponhenge. She talked to the other four pillars [Flash, Rockhoof, Meadowbrook, and Mistmane] saying she didn't feel right, and she still has hope and doesn't think Stygian was going to betray them, not when he was dating her. Then as Somnambula said to Starlight, in Shadow Play: Part 2, "We hoped he'd return and seek forgiveness" but because Stygian felt too close to the light, he embraced the shadow and let it fill his heart, and as Somnambula said "But when we saw him again, his heart was bent on revenge, and sadly it dashed even HER hope of saving him" and worked with the other Pillars to banish him, which because he felt like she betrayed him, Stygian felt like his love for her, defined saying "the closer one gets to the light, the larger one's shadow becomes" and all this heartache on Celestia, Luna, Stygian, Somnambula, The other four Pillars, Twilight, and then Starlight, is why Star Swirl was the biggest villain of Ancient Equestria...and that's why WE DON'T TALK ABOUT STAR SWIRL THE BEARDED!!!

I don't ship Somnambula and Flash...I ship Somnambula with Stygian. I think Flash is a bachelor, never married...still unattached.
