GARDEN WITH ME | Starting my Shade Garden + Mini Chicken Update 🌱 🐓

Welcome!
In today's video I’m starting a shade garden in the back corner of our yard which we refer to as our forest. Other than foraging for greens during Christmas and keeping our chickens, the area is mostly untouched but has so much potential! 🌲
It sits on a sloped hillside and provides great shade and protection from the strong winds that come through. And the birds are constantly singing! 🎶
My daughter and I recently completed a new chicken run using materials we had on hand. It’s a little rough looking but functions really well and is very secure! Our chickens are already loving it. 🐔
The new entrance to the run was begging for a little attention so I decided to start in on a nice shade garden. I used the soil we had dug out for the chicken run and created to berms on either side of the new gate. I focused mostly on hostas then accented using different types of coleus and pink begonias. And, of course, dark mulch makes everything pop and look more polished.
This is a big project that will take lots of time to complete, but I look forward to slowly working on it piece by piece until our entire forest has meandering paths and lush shade gardens throughout! 🌱
