I love the haunting ballads that Dave Loggins sings. I'm 69. I loved this music then, and I love it now. It is timeless. ❤

All these comments assure me that many others appreciate Dave Loggins' talent and music as much I do. His music is as relevant today as it was by then. I have aged but his music hasn't.

First time I heard this song 1979 driving home to Mammoth down 395 . I stopped just to listen. Fresh snow and a full moon . A much simpler time . One of the great songs .

Dave Loggins, a great songwriter and very good singer, way underrated, very much so. Tremendous song well delivered.

I love this compassionate song by Dave about a woman who took a few wrong turns in life - like the lady of ill-repute in Luke's gospel (7:36-50). She came to Jesus who had compassion on her and forgave her. Dave's sensitivity comes through with the lyrics "Ah but Lord give her my smile and my coat to a soul worth savin’ - And see for me she finds her way back home..." Like many others have noted, Dave actually wrote LOTS of great songs. Thanks a lot Dave!

Dave Loggins music was the soundtrack of the seventies for me as I raised two daughters in the wilderness in Norther California. His music filled our hearts with his fabulous songwriting talent and recordings. I still listen and appriciate him today as much as I ever have. Sunset Woman I label as my favorite.

There is no doubt that this is the best track on Apprentice, a great album by an all but unrecognised, on release, and obviously more so in Covid plagued 2020.
Am proud to say I have a framed copy of the originally released vinyl album.
This is a lovely bittersweet ballad. Great writing and singing Dave.

This was always my favorite song on that album. It is hauntingly beautiful and sad at the same time. It holds for me some very personal memories as it was one of the first songs my deceased husband played for me on our first date. That's how I got introduced to so much great music, asking a guy on our fist date what his top three albums/songs were. It's a great way to break the ice and discover music which may have passed you by. Thx for posting this.

I am sorry I am 8 years late to this comment, but I had to reply. First let me say I am so sorry for your loss. Your late husband and some great taste in music. I am also sorry that today I just found Dave Loggins by accident and am listening to this song for the first time. Amazing voice. Hope you are safe and well. (-:

And, just like CoolHand Trust (below), I'm also eight years late in responding. If you are still with us and if you get around to reading this, I would love to know what your late husband's three favourite albums and songs were; he was, evidently , a man of good (musical) taste.

One of my favorite pieces of music, ever! What a beautiful yet sad story all wrapped up in Dave's "sung-from-the-heart" song. I loved "Please Come to Boston," too, though i'm positive that song was released in 1974, and not in the 60s'.as stated above. I know because I was living in Boston, and my grandmother died in May, 1974, just as the song was becoming popular. Dave also recorded his version of "Pieces of April," which I have on a CD. He's one talented gentleman, that's for sure.

The perfect voice to render this tune. Beautiful. I see it as a sad song about the loss of a life, given over to waste and sloth. But in the doing of that, she still remains a person, beautiful, and reminds me of some of the women I have known in my life. Perhaps I should have married her 40 years ago.

Started thinking today, ...."but there was more to Dave Loggins than "Please Come..." So, indexed hid name only and as soon as I hear "Sunset Woman" old memories start stiring. Yeah there was more for me the one album only but.....one album full of great songs if I remember correctly. Remember sitting listening to a whole album, reading liner notes or the lyrics. They were like reading the cereal box while you ate the cereal. Miss those times....you don't know what you have till it's gone....

First time I heard this song it was a live performance by Larry Jon Wilson in Nashville in the late 70's. Larry Jon always did alot of very interesting songs lyrically from his own stuff to Mickey Newberry ( Mabel Joy) to John Prine. This song is along those lines and Dave's voice owns it.

The way Dave uses meter is a lesson for all learning writers I know song writers who
know nothing about the natural stress of popular music and these same writers spend money on demos that are a complete waste of money Learn how to use meter use it along with all its variants and make your songs memorable

I first heard Dave way back in 1976, when a woman turned me on to him!
As a musician myself, I've always had an affinity to Dave. My last wife used to dance on our coffee table, and do a strip show for me with this song.
Very revealing lyrics and a great talent. not that I'm a great fan of country, being from Canada, but his album really touched me

Buck Sellers Wow! How interesting!! They really threw 'that' at you guys??? For shame. My dad was a Capt in the army and an equestrian, in the horse cavalry. I would wear his breeches and boots, his bro was a State Trooper, big guy I hve to look the music up on YT. hoping when I hear it, I'll remember! Thinking of what year, here. I'll fess up, Mr. Old as dirt, at 58 I'm as old as the ocean. LOLOLOL AGE IS A NUMBER the caps were an error. left over from LOL. but that's all it is. All my friends hve turned in their 60's. Watch......now you will tell me you are 87 -for real. One of my friends is in his 90's. He is SO funny, I could listen to his stories all day - how the town used to be, the grinding wheels , to sharpen knives and scissors, on the street for every ones use......Angie, puppie love? That's the worst, 'cause one is really in love. She probably did not have a clue, I've been there. This fellow REALLY liked me, I was tending bar at the local marina, it was fall. (summer over) He kept telling me to go over to the jukebox and look at this song. I looked at the name of that tune for nights, stared at it, played it, Never got it. One night he told me his name Now my first name starts with an E. His last name started with a G = eg = age (NO only funnin') So eg, pronounced is egg. The song on the jukebox was, Layin' Eggs. If he didn't tell me, the letter thing, I still would never get it. BTW, I knew his name, never put it together. I'd love to talk to you about the war and field training. I happen to like military tactical maneuvers, like Alexander the Great - and the first time he saw war elephants. The strategy!!!! he had almost the entire world, conquered, by 24?? I would love to meet Alexander the Great. Baking pizza so I shall return. Hey, if you don't write for a coupld of days or just don't feel like it, might you drop a letter? just give me one letter of the alphabet or one % and I;ll know you'll be back. Good night for now, Buck ;)
