This song is actually a true story. She eventually married fellow 5th Dimension singer Billy Davis, Jr. and they have now been together over 60 years. Billy is the one who does the killer ad lib vocal solo at the end of Let the Sunshine In!
She's singing to her husband, Billy Davis Jr., and they're still married today! :)
Another group with great harmonies from the same time period is The Association (Cherish; Never My Love; Along Comes Mary).

This is truly live------------and you get to hear just how incredible they really were. I saw them 3 times in the 70's, & again, in '91, on their reunion tour. Remember, they WERE married, by this time. -------------The 5D were a class act, all the way, & marilyn was so gorgeous it was not fair.

I remember being so in love with this song when I was around 12 or so in 1970 when it came out! I remember walking home from the park listening to it on my transistor radio and wishing my voice sounded like Marilyn McCoo's! I ended up being more of an Ann Wilson when I finally started in bands! Great reaction, Lizzie! You are beautiful and graceful as always!
I was a 13 year old growing up in New Jersey when this came out in 1969. I think this had to be the best song of the year, and my favorite by the 5th Demension! Seems you have a love for the old music! Brings back some wonderful memories. 🥰
Bill is playing hard to get LOL. She wouldn't have had to ask me twice :-) Marilyn's voice is so powerful and clear, she has a great voice. I remember their songs from when I was younger, they were pretty popular on the radio. It's nice to hear this again after not hearing it for so long. Take care and stay safe.

They're still married. She and Billy came in our store in Beverly Hills recently. Such nice people. Always loved this video. Everyone in the Fifth Dimension is so beautiful and talented. And Marilyn has one of the most beautiful voices in music history.

A little background on this song : This was the The Fifth Dimension's second attempt at a vocal group, the first version of the group split up and the former members formed the group Friends of Distinction, this change resulted in Marilyn becoming the lead singer, she had always sang harmony and this song was the first one she sang lead on, she was so nervous that she was unable to sing the song all the way through, and they ended up having to assemble the final recording, line by line, from numerous takes. As you can see from this performance, she got over that shyness right quick!

Hi Lizzie they did one of the videos with her in a wedding dress and bill in a tuxedos everyone was dress up for the wedding. Its funny and I think they was a little younger. You can find it on TH-cam i love it. Also her one less bell to answer video where they are dress like chess players . She really kill it with that performs. They where know for they fashion statements and the California soul sound. Like you are the Hippie gangsters they gave the hippies of the sixties the fashion of that time.
