I slow-rolled that go for the throat. The reason I let the glissa through the first time is I knew I’d need a chump blocker for when the virtue hit. I then slow-rolled the go for the throat to get the virtue down that turn, and just had to hope for the top deck one-of gix’s command or aklazotz to cope my way through

I've been playing something similar in Standard and love it. Lots of neat synergies like how Fabled Passage plus Vinelasher is extra crimes on opponents' turns for Lookout for extra ramp. I also run Armored Scrapgorger to ramp up to 3 mana and potentially commit extra instant-speed crimes, with Fecund Greenshell and splash blue for Doppelgang at the top-end (just love one-upping the opponents' value plays with it, like oh you played Virtue? Raise you double/tripe virtue).
I came back to this game from shortly after Bolt, Goblin Guide, and lots a Ball Lightning style cards were the RDW standard, along with one of my favorite decks being Goblins with Bushwhacker and Siege gang.
It was all Bo3 at the time, but it did have a good amount of play in Top 8 tournaments. I mean, Kor Firewalker and other hate cards did exist at the time, but they were still sideboarded except for some mono-white lists where it didn't hurt to play a a few bears with a possibile upside if you got lucky with your matchups.
I thought, "I wish more of these red pump spells would be playable." They were overwhelming for drafts, flying decks, and maybe a few cards that wanted Anthem effects earlier in overwhelmingy R/x decks that went wide.
But Prowess and similar abilities, and Bo1 being the bigger format on Arena where many recent players see it as the normal way to play the game, really surprised me when red was playing more pump spells than green does (that often have better upsides as additional effects). I love the addition of red having psuedo draw through exiling playable cards for a turn, or letting you reverse loot. But they really should tone down the additional effects on red, and give some more (like protection and some kind of draw) to Green. It's already suffering as a color when playing it on its own, and the large stats no longer allow it even keep up with Red far too many cases of blocking/attacking. The worst case scenario here is that Green gets more relevant, and the mono red decks lose consistency from having to use very slightly worse cards, or need to accommodate black or green for explosiveness that leads them open to the same mana problems most other decks have to deal with. They may actually have to think about making a T1 play, or having double of a color or the second turn, which would likely turn off many of the Bo1 players that don't want to do anything but count to 20.
Best performing agro deck right now is gruul...turned out green has better pump spells then red and offers protection so you are not screwed in combat. But keep quite, we don´t want to promote that deck xD. Plus next season red will get consistent turn 2 kill.
@@LukasPlasil I have seen the red leyline but still cannot imagine a two-turn kill in Standard. SaffronOlive posted a meme about it, so I dug into it, but the only two-turn kill I found was in Modern using the single Phyrexian mana +2/+2 pump spell
@@the_r4ts if i remember correctly you need leyline in opening, then scamp turn one, turn two double pump spell whether its monstrous rage or turn inside out, scamp attacks for 10 then sac for 10. it also works with double leyline you just need one turn inside out in that case. I can't wait to die turn 2!

Potentially being a turn faster is significant, but adding four cards that are dead outside of the opener weakens non-TTK play patterns and possibly disturbs the deck’s card ratios. We will have to see how it plays to determine how viable or even ban-worthy it is

Personally loved the transition of these mass landfall style decks, from playing aftermath analyst and then now switching over to landfall vinelasher Lumra Combo. I also add in Reanimation with lich knights conquest and scavengers talent for spice, so you can keep getting Lumra and the vinelashers back all at once. Tokens to sacrifice being a very abundant thing already via many Land effects and scavengers talent.
I highly recommend Squirming Emergence for a reanimation effect in this kind of deck, it pulls incredible weight. Cracking Fabled Passage and Evolving Wilds contributing to your 3 mana reanimator is hard to beat. I personally have been doing it in sultai for Glarb and Virtue of Knowledge
I am curious, when you play the best decks but cant even get 50% win rate on the ladder, is the only tactic to drop a couple of hundred dollars on new cards?
I managed to watch this video while waiting for my teams bout to start at skate wars. It almost made want to turn arena back on.
I never, and I mean ever see two mono red in a row when I am playing a deck which is made to be antimono red
alot of people have this experience, myself included. i think the matchmaking is screwing people up because when you play anti red decks, your running with nonconventional decks that arena thinks arent good enough (matchmaking does actually takes into account what cards you submit, among everything else) to be paired with mono red, because the deck hasn't been proven to be good yet and if it never sees mono red (the only deck its good against) it never will be. thus you never see mono red with it, and the cycle repeats.
only reason you see the youtubers face red with anti red decks, i think, is cus they have a high enough winrate on their accounts that they will see the decks that do well, regardless of what decks they play.
I played golgari just to kill mono- red... all i find was control or other golgari builds xD

The same day, we fix the part where, CGB plays a deck with 12 removal spells, and 1 creature in whale(yesterdays video). Because if that shit is allowed to be viable, then yea. RDW, bunnies, and all these control decks are even less fun.
Honestly I think just sell-sword would do it. Feel like every turn 3 kill I've seen has either been a flung showoff or a "double-flung" hero or scamp.
Why waste time banning cards for a fake format? Bo1 is designed for fast games, win or lose. If you don't like it, play Bo3 instead and enjoy your longer games with a sideboard for all your red hate.

Saying “green hasn’t been that good” sounds like someone building decks for mono red instead of farming the wave of discard decks after the ladder reset. The hopeless nightmare to baloth scoop is deeply satisfying on their turn one.
Saying you've been playing against waves of discard decks instead of waves of monored just shows where your MMR is at.

Hello CGB.. =) i like this landfall deck.. im trying to find some kind of "replacement" of the Temur Land combo deck before the rotation.. i've tried to build something, but honestly with all the ragdos aggro and discard flying around i dont feel playing the deck anymore... to much stuff against it on BO1 ladder.. =/

I keep getting my hopes up anytime I see black in the thumbnail that I'll get to see Scavengers/Carnage mill combo before the Duskmourn make everyone run more than one way to kill enchantments
I keep trying to make the tortoise work in the landfall decks but he's just too small for the 4 drop slot. Last iteration I made I replaced him with 2 copies of Gisa and Kaervek since they both work off of crime and it felt far more consistent despite the varying mana costs.
I wish Brawl was a 60 card singleton format, or another version like it existed on MTG Arena

If black had a low casting wipe for all the low casting red, be sure wotc ban the black card. Remembre the meathook massacre and invoke despair ban but they never ban white wipe. I made the deck and made some moddif. Add sheoldred's edicty and assassin's trophy.

Conduit of Worlds!!! Conduit + passage/deso.feild is the engine for landfall. It also gets back all your creatures that are triggering off of landfall.

Weird, I've been playing this exact list for the past couple of days. It hasn't been great in bo1 but I've squeaked out a few wins in bo3
CGB, maybe you shall try other formats? BO3, for example. They speak, that MRA decks are played much less.

I’ve been running a similar deck but with Awaken the Woods as my big payoff card. Curious if you could find a way to shoehorn that in.
Is there any reason to not play Disfigure over Cut Down in this meta? I feel like it's much preferable to reduce damage on Scamp/Heartfire Hero than try to hit 1/3s, 2/3s, or 1/4s.

having a list of mono red players seems like people need to step back and blame the company not the player for adding bs like they do. mono red has continued since i came back during the standard days with mutate and scute swarm have high win rate.
Not every one can drop large sums of money to buy packs in game and for some it seems the mythic 5 packs is something to help the atrocious card grind. i hate mono red as much as many others but we need to put blame where it really belongs.

why must you say the deck is cheap but then stick 4 bill and 2 shelly thats like 350$ alone, lumra is like a fraction of the price, what? Land by it self is like 70$, this deck is not cheap in paper.... Even by arena standard this is not a cheap deck by any means.
he means in Magic Arena not Paper. A Deck there is considered Cheap if it doesnt have many rares or legendary overall in the deck
@keyos4398 the deck has like over 30+ rare including the land. In no way what so ever is this a cheap deck on arena, its 100$ for the wild cards alone, thats not cheap in this economy. 100$ for cards that has no value other than the play value on arena, is not cheap by any means.

It’s so weird to constantly hear players complain about “mono red” players even tho the mono red you speak of is typically rakdos rn because it’s Aggro. But talking bad about aggro players all the time is silly because the same can be said of players like you putting Sheoldred in nearly every black deck youve built for the last 2 years or playing BW control and wasting people’s time playing 25+ minute matches. All decks are annoying, there’s nothing more annoying than “mono red” players than there is of using Sheoldred and acting like it’s new and profound. Mono Red is the same as the guy spamming emotes because he thinks playing dopplegang has never been done before it’s as annoying as the netdecker thinking they discovered vraska + inn keepers talent synergy; it’s the same as the annoying players that love simulacrum synthesizer. Shaming mono red 😝 how about shaming sheoldred geez 🙄
