I flew Thai Airways last September on a B777 from Munich to Bangkok and connected on a 747 to Bali in Business Class. It was my first flight with them and I was really impressed with their hospitality on Board. Excellent Food and very attentive Service was provided throughout this flight. I really hope they will recover from their financial problems. I used to work for a very long time on a 747 and she was always my favorite Aircraft but she‘s aging yet still iconic. The A380 became my favorite. Much quieter and much more space for the Crew and the Passengers. I‘m looking forward to the next upcoming Hotel Reviews.
I love the 747...…. When I was a young salesman I used to commute from No. California (Oakland) to So. California (Los Angeles) weekly on either PSA or AirCal. Then I heard that World Airlines had a repositioning flight for a 747 from Oakland to LAX daily and the charge was only $35. Needless to say I jump on it and enjoy flying the 747 for about 6 months before they change the schedule. Most of the time I was one of very few passengers on the flight and got to know the flight attendants and crew really well and they treat me like royalty!!! It was a great time to fly back in the 80s!
This is one of the best organized videos I have watched on youtube. I watch about one hour every day....I should not but I do. and mostly about Thailand and Philippines...Thank you for this gem ... Dr. Angel Garcia (USA).
Such a beautiful and old school product. I had my first flight in 1986 on the Thai 747-400 as a young boy travelling to Thailand with our parents and used to fly them on business between CCU-BKK or BKK-HKG in until 1997. In the beginning of the '80 entertainment was a big projector in the different sections of the plane and the thai art picture on the wall next to the bassinet was turned into the screen. The last section of the plane was for smoking area and lost of passengers was standing in the aisles smoking since the didn't get a seat in the smoking area of the plane :-) Always enjoyed the service and the hard product. Last time I flew the 747 was on a SIN-BKK flight in 2017 which was supposed to be a 777 but lucky it was swapped to a 747-400 from 1996. Beautiful and almost original plane and was happy to fly it for the last time.
I once flew Pan Am 747 - MIA to LHR in First class when I was much younger, working in a travel agency. We had Pan Am first class passes. It was a grand trip.
Watching this video with the perfect background music gave me goose bumps. Nostalgic memories of the years when I worked as a flight attendant for a german airline. Living in Germany, I also had a second apartment in bkk where I spent my off days. I remember one could pay an upgrade for approx. € 50.00 for an upgrade to business class on this route HKT-BKK.
Very nice presentation. Regarding, "...Thai Airways' old First Class feels very retro", hmmm. As a member of the "nearly dead generation", retro seems quite...familiar...to me! Well done once again, Doctor.
7:18.Yes, I have . In June 2019th. I have flown the same route as yours) From Bangkok to phuket on 747 and back to the Bangkok on Thai airways 777-300. Even though I've flown in economy, that was an amazing experience! Really love Thai airways)
Evth about this video: from old school design to cute farewell by marshalls is so heart warming ☺.. ive flown a few times with Nok Air snd Bangkok airways.. now on my bucket list gonna be this vintage beauty 🙃
You got to fly in the nose! What a fantastically lucky random upgrade. Haha that towel sure was steaming. Safety video on a projector screen, very retro. You have a great way of conveying appreciation for your experiences in your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I chuckled a little when you mentioned how your seat broke! It’s nice to know that even the LTE experiences some “hardships“ during his luxury travel around the world! 😉 Nevertheless, I would simply like to comment that I too would probably have paid the small fee for a premium seat even though it was such a short flight because as I learned on my recent flight from New Delhi to Mumbai, having a premium seat allows one to proceed more quickly through those security and immigration lines at the airport upon departure (and upon arrival, as well). 👍🏼
Beautiful Video. I love Thai Airways with all my heart and look forward to many more happy hours in the air and being pampered with Royal Orchid Care 🌸
I loved that first class cabin, especially for medium-haul flights. It was super comfortable and not so isolated like the cubicles today. Thai's service, including very good caviar, was superior to the best first class today. Qantas, TWA, and many others had a similar design. And no airplane ever made has a better first class positioning on the plane than that 747 nose.
Very nice video. You made me feel like travel to Thailand. ❤❤ I always travel with Thai from Muscat/Bangkok /Phuket 👌🏽❤ even Thai food is amazing. I always choose Thai menu from for all returned trip.
way back when Thai Air used to offer a non-stop from LAX to BKK I was a frequent coach and business class customer. Service was always good but the food was exceptional compared to Cathay Pacific and EVA. I miss those nonstops, it shaved a good 3-4 hours off the usual 19-20+ hours flight...
I flew on Thai Airways Business Class from Seoul to Bangkok than back to Seoul . Great service and of course Thai hospitality, too bad flight was only 5 hrs,
Seriously, your videos are more ASMR than most ASMR videos on YT. And Boeing 747 is my favourite plane. The lounge was so small though but you can't expect a huge one in Phuket airport I guess :)
You are best youtuber in this segment, Sam and Jonh always harass personnel, and lots of empty talks. Most of all, you know how to create some indescribable mood of calmness and confidence.
Thai International was formed in 1959, and began operations in 1960 under joint venture with Scandinavian. Thai Airways (Domestic) was formed in 1951 after the merging of Siamese Airways and Pacific Overseas Airlines. It was not until 1988 when both airlines merged to create one national airline, Thai Airways International. The merging was mostly focused on the government wanting to manage one airline, not two. Therefore, it was effectively Thai International acquiring Thai Airways. Even though the domestic airline existed, it was not as popular abroad as its international counterpart.
I fly this type (74R) last month. To sapporo. On royal silk class upperdeck is very comfortable. Thai Airways will discharge this version of 747 on this month (HS-TGP) . This type is in my memory. :) Thank thai airways for 25 years of 747.
Lovely video. The beginning of this actually made me feel quite sad - your comment about the 747 being a dying breed. As a 747 fan I hate to admit that it's true. Used to love flying classic jumbos from LHR to NRT via Anchorage. These were the days.
This video reminded me of the A380 flight with Air France, one of the older models of the A380 However I was surprised to see how fast the big 747 got airborne in just 30 sec 👏
Arrived in Phuket yesterday on this very aircraft after the long journey from London to Bangkok on the wonderful A380, a trip I make several times a year. I hope Thai Airways get their finances sorted out as it is my preferred airline, with amazing food.
Enjoyable report, as always, though the visit to the lounge in Phuket brought back unhappy memories of my disastrous trip a year ago. I was sick and as a result also had a bad fall. I arrived at the airport direct from an 8 day stay in Bangkok Phuket Hospital, still very weak. I managed to stumble moving from the wheelchair to a regular chair and fell, demolishing two of those cocktail tables seen in the video. I wasn't hurt, and I was too sick to feel as mortified as I should have. I must say everyone from the airport and the airline was very helpful and kind. I couldn't appreciate the flight, but I've flown Thai before and it's always one of my favorite airlines. I'm sorry they pulled out of the US. I managed, some years ago, to take the nonstop flight they briefly had from JFK New York to BKK. Fifteen hours, I think, and the first time I flew to BKK going east from NY, rather than over the Pacific.
Excelente empresa aérea, Thay. Maravilhosos vídeos da The Luxury Travel Expert. Dá impressão que estamos viajando junto. Abraço a todos, daqui de São Paulo, Brasil.
09:10 Its my favourite, TK ! Turkish Airlines flies to the most countries. Indeed it is beautiful livery of Russiya Airlines. Those Mashallers are adorable.
We flew Thai 747-200 from Melbourne to Bangkok to Rome then London in 1982. All economy all the way there and back. Cramped and very long trip. Never been with them since. They still fly 747-400 and now A350-900 into Australia. Cheers.
I love flying this route with Thai Airways.I always try to fly the 747 if I can but have only managed to do it twice in 5 years, they sell out quick. My last flight with them was on the Star Alliance livery 747 and was a really wet take off from HKT and a lovely warm landing in BKK.First time I noticed the slats fold back in when the thrust reversers are deployed.
i miss 747.....i flew the Malaysia Airline 747 First Class with the old layout alot back in the day ( Kuala Lumpur-London/ Kuala Lumpur-LA)....those were the days....
I've flown Thai several times. The longest was BKK to SYD. Always enjoyed good service and great staff. North American airlines need to pay attention. If they can do it,then why can't we have it here.
i flew thai airways from phuket to udon . bumpy flight but nice . was a small plane and you had to buy your own food . It was nice to fly over thailand got to see a lot of interesting things 😊
flown many times on Thai Airways. Pretty thai air hostesses and food is excellent. The movie screen on 1st class makes me few like going way back when flying 747 in the 80's.... shared screen. Now most advice 747 (although been discontinued) have personal screen.
Premium class are good for long haul flights... Phuket to BKK i would fly ordinary economy and safe the money for more exciting activities in Phuket or BKK.
i've always love the color scheme of Thai Airways on their planes...some of the seat features look a little dated to me, but i think their presentation to their service makes up for their short comings.. // I really hope one day you come visit my island of Trinidad and stay at the Hyatt.
When flying home (to the US from Europe) I often go out of my way to fly on a Lufthansa 747, as I know they’ll be gone before long. My biggest travel regret is never having flown on the Concorde.
As a United 1K - Star Alliance Gold...thx for the information on club lounge though as you mentioned it was a domestic club lounge. If you ever get a chance to do the club lounge for international flights...will differently review! And thx again✈👍

So, you're telling me that, I have to wait 4 weeks for your next flying video? Sacrilegious, I say! just kidding, I enjoy all your videos, but I prefer the flying ones, so....
I had Thai airway premium seat several times about 25-15 years ago, This "old" first and business class is still nicer and newer than what I flew with at that time (no touch screen and flat seat (bed? with more open, less privacy space), this one was probably renovated after 2000. It was an awesome experience for a young aviation geek. This was back in the days when flying was fun and the cabin service was incredible even in Coach Class. I flew on Thai in the '80's while living in Asia. Back then Thai was known for giving each passenger an orchid upon boarding. The size of the orchid was determined by the class you were in. Believe me, they were small in Economy and quite large in First Class! I am sorry to hear of Thai's recent financial problems. Hopefully, they will get things sorted out and once again become an amazing airline comparable to SQ! Thanks for this vlog. It really made my day! Take care and Happy Travels. ♥️🛫🌐

What more could a person need for a one hour flight? I agree...a lovely lady she is! Well done, kind sir, as usual!

I remember the days of flying Thais 747 from London to bkk through the 90's and early 2000's ... always a pleasant service
The 747-400 of THAI haves me flashbacks when I was really young and first saw the inflight entertainment of THAI.

Nice review, I'm always amazed how gently the 747 can land even though it's a large plane ✈
That's the nicest ground crew/marshallers EVER! Thai Airways must have a blanket employment qualification for warm-heartedness.

ronP __ wow didn’t know they did that.
As well as 17 hours nonstop flight from JFK-BKK using their A346.
Yes I have flown from stockholm to Bangkok Thailand via b777-300er and then transfer to 747 to Manila so far it is quite memorable experience 😊.
I flew on Thai Airways Business Class from Seoul to Bangkok than back to Seoul . Great service and of course Thai hospitality, too bad flight was only 5 hrs,
Then, back to Seoul, not than.
This may sound a bit odd but I really liked the galley, so spacious :D

I miss flying on the 747! Thank you so much for this trip report. I hope I could fly on one again before they are all retired.
Thai airways is one of the best flight in Asia, usually i'm use this when go to Thailand, the best service cabin crew n in flight meal was great :-)
You are best youtuber in this segment, Sam and Jonh always harass personnel, and lots of empty talks. Most of all, you know how to create some indescribable mood of calmness and confidence.

This is simply elegant and gorgeous. Well done.

I traveled from UK to BKK so many times on this vintage Thaï First. So far was a good spacious first which rare now.
Beautiful video like always. I hope Thai Airways can stay afloat, I always hear good things about them.

Thank you for what you do LTE. ❤️
Flew back from Bangkok to London Heathrow and had a whole economy middle row to myself on their 747, was lush and slept most the way
Great video thanks. Totally loved the long galley with the window views!
This vdo is super professionally made.
The touch screen works way better than so many airlines till today
flown on this exact same 747 on one of my recent trips from Mumbai to Bangkok.
I had this once on TG from BKK to SIN. Seat 1A on a 747! What a privilege!!
Love you from Thailand.
What I like about Thiai Airways is it’s very easy to transfer in Bangkok to your connecting flight
09:10 Its my favourite, TK !
Turkish Airlines flies to the most countries.
Indeed it is beautiful livery of Russiya Airlines.
Those Mashallers are adorable.
Great views on take off !! Excellent review as always...bet you wished a longer flight !!
I went to Mai Khao beach two years ago to do some plane spotting, I was blown away
Feels like traveling back in time, doesn’t it? 😉
I agreed, the fixture feels like 747 in the early 80's.
Thank you! Nice video!
Amazing flight video
Tough life to be upgraded all the time ;)
We flew Thai 747-200 from Melbourne to Bangkok to Rome then London in 1982. All economy all the way there and back. Cramped and very long trip. Never been with them since. They still fly 747-400 and now A350-900 into Australia. Cheers.

i flew thai airways from phuket to udon . bumpy flight but nice . was a small plane and you had to buy your own food . It was nice to fly over thailand got to see a lot of interesting things 😊
You don’t have to buy foods and drinks on thaiairways
Thai airways is not a low cost airline
your right we flew air asia 😊
The old queen, but is still in the good shape.
I just love hat you do. Thank You
I hope these people know just how lucky they are. It’s hard to get on a 747 even at many hub airports these days.
flown many times on Thai Airways.
Please stay afloat. i still have an unused ticket for BKK to HKG to fly before Mar 2021
i've always love the color scheme of Thai Airways on their planes...some of the seat features look a little dated to me, but i think their presentation to their service makes up for their short comings.. // I really hope one day you come visit my island of Trinidad and stay at the Hyatt.
These types of sitting will be back after Covid 19 pandemic gets end.. ✌️
When flying home (to the US from Europe) I often go out of my way to fly on a Lufthansa 747, as I know they’ll be gone before long. My biggest travel regret is never having flown on the Concorde.
I flew Concorde twice. Noisy and cramped, but I am 6 foot 3. Still, as Lord King, chairman of BA said, 'yes, but never mind. It doesn't last long.'
I have found some destinations in the Maldives that are relative affordablely for me. Now I only have to overcome my fear of flying.
It's really an old fashion retro design cabin...
Looks awesome! 😍😍
As a United 1K - Star Alliance Gold...thx for the information on club lounge though as you mentioned it was a domestic club lounge.
If you ever get a chance to do the club lounge for international flights...will differently review!
And thx again✈👍
I've been in Phuket ....not a place for me ...and I've been in Bangkok many times ...I like the food Thai food are all delicious ...love it
Great vid thanks
another wonderful video :)
Great video thanks you for sharing 👍👍👍

I had Thai airway premium seat several times about 25-15 years ago, This "old" first and business class is still nicer and newer than what I flew with at that time (no touch screen and flat seat (bed? with more open, less privacy space), this one was probably renovated after 2000. Generally the service is much different between international and domestic in most Asia's airlines even in premium class except Singapore Airline, Cathay and Royal Brunei since they don't have "domestic" route :)
747 the best plane in the World
Thai airways. Is so beautiful..No1.in my heart..
*Suvarnabhumi is an Indian word means a land of Gold* 😀
I probably flew that very same 747 a few times :D Although never in 1st class
Great channel 👍
I actually thought the little Royal Orchid lounge was quite nice. It offered what I would be looking for: a nice snack, a selection of beverages, a comfortable chair and, all important, access to the ladies room. I have mobility issues, and find those huge, gloriously over done first class lounges to be real piety testers. Too much ground to cover for someone with very limited energy reserves.
GE motors got a weird buzz compared with RR or P&W.
Even if it's vintage looks better than some of the competition have.
Pad thai looks decent, just get rid of the shrimp and will be perfect
For 1hour flight is not bad, cannot wait for EVA clip. That landing you can feel and ear the aircraft is really old
Feels like going back in time :) so cool :)
Always strongly desired video !

Wow awesome
Great video. But how did you get views of the airport when you landed at runway 01. And the plane came from the south. Old video footage?.
This is my goal. To travel to the beautiful places you’ve visited with the man I love.
When i was in phuket i saw the same russiya 747!
You're brave for going to Asia with Corona virus around!
it doesnt even exist
Great review as always..!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video
Nice airline.
Thank you for the video!
Very good i Love it!
