At 1:59, I made a mistake in reference to George Martin's statement, _"This is the reason that Wild Honey Pie was released."_ Rather, what I wanted to say is that the Beatles included "non-essential" songs like Wild Honey Pie, Why Don't We Do It in the Road, Birthday, etc., which are songs that normally wouldn't make the cut, in order to break out of their contract with EMI faster.
I think Wild Honey Pie, Why Don't We Do it in the Road, What's the New Mary Jane, You Know My Name and Maggie May were far worst than Birthday. I don't consider Revolution #9 a song, more of an art project.
I like how the compliments already start at the 182nd song. That's how good The Beatles are.
True!
I played Revolution #9 a LOT when the White Album came out. My parents must have thought.. "Well, he's lost now. What did we do that was wrong?"" 😄
😂 I was too fascinated with it for a while.
"We never thought it was wrong"
Revolution 9 is a sound collage not a song. I think it is great.
Yes
A song is.
"A set of words or short poems, meant to sung and set to a certain type of music."
"The combination of melody and words."
"A short musical composition of words and music."
Legally, a song is, "Defined as the combination of melody and words."
My top 10
1. A Day in the Life
2. Strawberry Fields Forever
3. Abbey Road Medley
4. In My Life
5. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
6. Across the Universe
7. Hey Jude
8. Dear Prudence
9. Something
10. Penny Lane
Great list.
Starting with Revolution #9 at the bottom is an immediate signal for me to check out lmao.
Number 9 Number 9 Number 9
Hey Jude was #1 worldwide when I was born. So, I got THAT goin' for me....
🚬😎👍
Same here ;-)
I envy you. 🎉
Paperback writter when I was. But I do not remember it😉
🎵🎵Anna, girl before you go now. Shut the bathroom door now...🎵🎵
😂
Shocked to see "Boys" so high on the list.
I prefer girls
@@BeatlesBible1 So do I
All Together Now not #1? Unsubbed.
🤣
Ditto Maxwell
Number 9
@@stephenquinn106 number 9
Turn me on dead man
About the White Album: The Beatles wrote so many songs at that time (in India, for example) that they could not fit them on a single LP. That has nothing to do with (what you are aiming for at 1:58) a so-called contract that they wanted to get rid of and that is why they released so many songs on a double LP ! Birthday that normally wouldn't make the cut ? Come on ! 🙂
There were better songs than birthday, why don't we do it in the road, wild honey pie that could've been added. More George songs or even what's the new Mary Jane woulda been great. Even child of nature. I think revolution 9 stays just because it works so well to end the album. The album gets darker and darker the further it goes. Goodnight almost sounds cynically sarcastic
I agree about One After Nine O Nine. The versions on Anthology are an excellent example of the Mercy Beat.
Yes
You said you were going to include only songs written by the Beatles. What's with the covers?
Oh well, now he has to remake the video.
I meant to say “songs written by the four Beatles” AND covers. Not remaking the video. 😂
come on, hey jude at lower rankings? it's their song most spent weeks at number 1.
Just my personal opinion. 🤠
Meh, takes forever to get to the climax ending
Chart success doest equal to being the best. The are so many Beatles gems that'd never been on charts.
"Don't Pass me By" better than "I'M Down"? What are you smoking?
Cigarettes.
@@BeatlesBible1 Thats the reason then...
agree
btw studio version sucks
But Don't Pass Me By is more tolerable, though.
A day in the life was actually 2 songs fused into one beautiful masterpiece.
Yes.
How could anyone rank the Beatles' songs worst to best or best to worst? They're all great.
Eh, it's just a fun exercise and excuse to talk about our faves.
Some strange choices, but generally a decent ranking
My list,
1. Across the Universe
2. Two Of Us
3. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
4. Eleanor Rigby
5. Strawberry Fields Forever
6. Nowhere Man
7. Misery
8. Helter Skelter
9. Now and Then (I actually vastly preferred the 2023 Mix)
10. In My Life
And I agree, Revolution 9 is the worst.
Baby Youur A Rich Man is the mist underated Beatles Song... It js SO funky.
Lennon dominates the top 10.
Lennon fetishists will be the folly of all man.
It's so hard to rank the Beatles 😭
my personnal top 15:
15- the long and winding road
14- Here comes the sun
13- I'm down
12- Norwegian wood
11- Let it be
10- I'll be back
9- Dear Prudence
8- For no one
7- Rain
6- I feel fine
5- Tomorrow Never knows
4- A day in the life
3- Something
2- Strawberry fields forever
1- While my guitar gently weeps
The tough one for me has to do with how I basically digested the whole Beatles catalog when I was seven. Even if there are better songs than others, I still only enjoy some songs less than I enjoy the rest because of being obligated to play them in the context of this rather hackneyed cover band that mainly performs in the New York City subway that I played in from 2014 to 2020.
Regarding a previously written comment, I have this to add. It's easy to conceptualize how the first George Harrison solo record, *All Things Must Pass,* was mainly comprised of music that George wrote when the band went to India in early 1968. It would have been so neat if many of those songs have been included on the last three Beatles albums in place of [pick your songs of choice].
I don't understand this list. Starts with bad, then to good, and the backwards to just "fine" and then good again.
God bless you man. Excellent work and commentary
Also, for having English as not your first language, you have a better command of it than I do!! Muito bem!!
Much appreciated
1) A day in the Life
2) Eleanor Rigby
3) Strawberry Fields
4) Helter Skelter
5) Hey Jude
6) Yesterday
7) Something
8) Here comes the Sun
9) Lei it Be
10) Dear Prudence
Todd Rundgren's band, Utopia, also did an awesome parody of 'Penny Lane' with the tune, 'Hoi Polloi.'
I’ll check it out
@@BeatlesBible1The song is part of Utopia's 1980 Beatles homage/parody album, 'Deface the Music.' Not the greatest effort by Todd and the guys, but an entertaining listen.
When I heard the narrator say "I love granny songs" I began to slowly walk backwards, disappearing into a hedge.
If you don’t like Paul’s “granny music” you fundamentally do not understand The Beatles. The Beatles were never about “THE ROCK, MANNN WoOOoOo”. What made them special was the direct tonal contrast between all their music. You’d go from a psychedelic rock opus, to an orchestral Indian suite, to a jaunty Funtime jazz tune, and back over again, and somehow it all works as one piece. That unique concept is what made them so special, that surrealist contrast that makes their music so beautiful and uncanny. If you just want to listen to guitars screaming go throw some bass strings in a blender and play The Rolling Stones while mowing your lawn for an hour.
@@CosmicMappingWhoa, man. Beatles fan since 1964 here. I was making a silly joke, lighten up. I like rockin' songs, jaunty songs, ballads, you name it. I have liked these songs since they were released:
Your Mother Should Know
Martha My Dear
Lovely Rita
I skip over these, though:
Yellow Submarine
Ob-La-Dee...
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
(and a few other granny songs)
@@CosmicMappingDon't be a toxic fan.
🤣
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day also a fantastic weekend ❤😊
Thank you! You too!
Mr. Moonlight is a favorite of mine. It's an interesting song, definitely 50s styled, with an excellent vocal by John. Blue Jay Way is just weird, forgettable. No Reply is one of John's best, should've ranked higher. Hey Jude is Paul's indulgence. Hate it. Same goes for Long and Winding Road and Let It Be. Penny Lane is brilliant. It not only changes key for the choruses, but again for the outro. I'm glad to see John's Because rated high.
While I obviously don't agree every step of the way, overall the placements are decent, and A Day in the Life definitely deserves the top spot.
R9 is in verry verry last place on my phone music player's "most recently played" list. I like to dig out tracks from that area to vary up my music listening. R9 securely stays right there. (Though I don't really dislike it.)
I'm a huge Beatles fan and I love the White Album but wtf were they thinking putting Revolution 9 anywhere but in the trash bin.
I agree, Lennon is the ultimate walrus.
I agree with much of what you say, but I agree with Brando the most. Who cares, and why should they?
My five (5) personal favorites are: Strawberry Fields Forever, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Across the Universe, Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby.
Agree with you too tuer songs. Lennon def has most of the top 20
Tier*
Really I'm thinking "Maxwell" needs to be trashier than everything else. Paul wrote kind of a lot of candied garbage.
I'm glad to hear that someone else would like to hear more George tunes. And throw double Ringo tunes in there too.
(Bad Boy kills over the original, btw, which wasn't bad at all.)
p.s. Another Girl & The Night Before do have musical similarities.
Little-known fact about Piggies: George Harrison often had trouble finishing off the lyrics in his tunes. He usually just had to take time, having no one to bounce ideas off of like John & Paul.
In this case, though, he was at home with his family and he ran the tune past his mother Louise, who had always wholeheartedly supported George's musical interests.
He had just gotten to the penultimate verse and had written the line,
"In their eyes there's something lacking" and was stuck on what might rhyme. He asked his mother Louise for a suggestion.
Louise, a typical blue-collar Scouser mum, put her oar in:
"What they need's a damn good whacking."
And a legend was born...
🐖 🐖 🐖
1. Strawberry Fields Forever
2. In my Life
3. Across the Universe
4. Eleanor Rugby
5. A day in life
6. Something
7. Tomorrow Never Knows
8. Happiness is a Warm Gun
9. All my loving
10. Yesterday
This my top ten
But it's ok everything..
Ps. Now we waiting...solo years of the Beatles 🍏🍓
Finally someone has placed Something above Here comes the sun, the way it should be
Y E S
I love honey don't, i think Ringo did a great job
By the way, my name is Jude.
Ahem. (Enough said)
WHP was on the white album because Patti Harrison liked it. Per Paul.
Eleanor Rigby é uma obra prima dos 4 ! A letra é de todos 🤷😊
“Revolution 9” is amazing. Sound collage, much better than Maxwell’s for example 🤦🏽♂️😆
Neither song is good - both Revolution 9 and Maxwell's are among their worst.
Revolution 9 is far from the Beatles worst song. It’s a masterpiece of what it’s trying to be. That is all
I agree, but I only have it maybe 100 places higher. Conceptually, it is great, but sort of like a lot of conceptual stuff, I don't need to go back to it much.
Absolutely. All together now over Revolution 9?!!! Common man 🤦🏽♂️😆
I can't trust You is just Rubbish
Strawberry Fields forever is number one for me so this list was pretty damn good. Beatles for life my brothers and sisters✨🙏🍾🥂
I thought this would cover only songs written by the Beatles, but the list seems to include covers.
But some people want to experience “hell” from a safe distance - thus we have Revolution #9. I will take it over “Obla Di Obla Da” any day. It’s still ahead of it’s time probably. But disagreeing is what these lists are all about 😉. Good fun.
all together now should be higher
I don’t believe I saw The Inner Light here? An Indian track by George that never made it to an album but was released on Past Masters. I can’t imagine how long the list took. Overall it was good but I’m a Paul guy and there weren’t enough of his in the top 10.
Excelent work, so grateful.
All music is a matter of taste no opinion is right or wrong, this might be the dumbest thing I've heared you say 0:27.
also, "revolution 9" is not a song but a sound collage.
It's a joke; I'm saying it ironically. 😄
us on the Internet have lost the art of understanding irony 😭
Love how he says it’s not opinionated then starts with his opinion on revolution 9 and Avangard music lol.
I've never loved A day in the life song. I don't know why people rank it so high
Complicated in production doesnt mean its good
I'm not saying anything bad against this song. It's very decent but not a song to love
There's no such thing as 'Worst' in a Beatles song.
Another Beatles ranking? Who are these 'Beatles' you talk about?
My bottom 5:
Revolution 9
What You’re Doing
Matchbox
Run for Your Life
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
My top 5:
Penny Lane
Abbey Road medley
Paperback Writer
Something
Rain
i actually quite like wild honey pie😂
I don't agree with a lot of the placings here - but i DO agree with the 4 songs from "A Hard Days Night" that are in the lowest placings here. "When I Get Home", "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You", "Tell Me Why" & "I'll Cry Instead" are very lacklustre Lennon songs.
Great video…personally I would have had Penny Lane much higher.
Nice top 10. Great to see Hey Jude down on the list. Such an overrated Beatles track compared with dozens of other superior songs in their catalog.
Não suporto yesterday 😅é tão mas tão maçadora 😅
TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS #1
"'i've got a feeling', fine" no further elaboration?????
+1 ❤
Your list is only your choice not at all mine.
This is probably the closest to the best to list that you’re going to get
What. ❓
I'm so wrong
HONEYPIE @ 121?? AND ONTOP OF 64?????
I think it's better. 🤷♂
You Know My Name, Wild Honey Pie, Oh Darling, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Because and I Wanna Be Your Man are all worse than Revolution 9.
My top 5:
5. Penny Lane
4. Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite
3. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
2. In My Life
1. Don't Let Me Down
Reptise is pronounced Re-prais.
Clearly not a beatles fan
Great picks for the Top 10 👏
Where's the Inner Groove?
Birthday? WTF?
Till there was you AT least top 50 but okay
Everyone underrates and misunderstands Lovely Rita. That song is trippy as fuck and dirty, too.
I live for the ending of that song where it goes off the rails. So cool.
Got halfway and just didn't bother. Your list, don't agree with it.
Seriously? We’re ranking Beatles songs? Okay, let’s rank flowers next. When we’re done with flowers, we’ll do, firefighters, then 19th century chimney sweeps, then sunsets, and so forth. That’ll fix things.
how 'bout She's a Woman.... she's no peasant !
Revolution 9 at the bottom im reporting your channel

Revolution #9 always makes me think they are fueled by drugs and they want to find as many weird sounds as possible. It’s a train wreck.
Well, it’s a psychedelic sound collage musical exhibition. Fantastic when you are on drugs listening through headphones.
To understand revolution 9, you gotta know about stockhausen and his radio music. Lennon and Ono were neighbors with him at a time and were generally very influenced by the avant- garde. In terms of sound collages, revolution 9 is very cohesive. Better than stuff in their 2 virgins or wedding album
@adriangonzalez4877 Garbage is Rubbish however sold to people. The other 2 you mentioned the same.
Open your mind and ears, Revolution 9 is brilliant
Completely agree on the worst song.
LOL. You rank Hey Jude at 62? ..joke.. This is a top 15, top 10 song!.. 😂
I think it's actually a terrible ranking, I thought this guy knew The Beatles, lol
I don't understand why he would say that one song was the best on the album, but the follow it with another song from that album lol
Thinking about it now, it's almost like this guy hates Paul McCartney as well lol
Maybe he does know his Beatles, maybe... (gasp) HE DOESN'T HAVE TO LIKE WHAT YOU LIKE!
Wow pretty pompous. Right from the start you claim this is the "objective truth" and then proceed to do the lazy thing and list Revolution #9 as the "worst song". I stopped then. I've had a pretty low opinion of your channel in general but this one sealed the deal for me.
