    You'd be surprised at how valuable older laptop parts are at the moment. The uptake in second hand market for home schooling and working from home has resulted in both the laptops and parts going up in value. So that Macbook 2012 for parts only is worth around or could sell for upwards of £100 depending on what was broken on it.

    the dust had eaten the foam surround of the "subwoofer" speaker; on speakers with foam surrounds the surrounds usually last 15-20 years but dust and moisture can eat them away more quickly. I noticed you have (or had) a pair of speakers in the shop which look to be 30 years old - if they still work fine they'll have cloth, rubber or foam-rubber mix surrounds that don't deteriorate like ones that are just foam do.

    Reasons are you had to at least use up space to store the parts, inventory them and then strip and install them.

    I have been seeing this issue on 2015 MacBook Pro's on their dual subs. Always a slight tear in the cone. I wonder if the material apple used dries out and starts falling apart. Oddly enough the tweeters I have never seen go bad.

    • @gorjy9610
      @gorjy9610 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      tweeters usually don't work so hard as subs and movement is much less aggressive. Of course if they use good quality materials to make them in a first place this will not happen probably ever in life time of laptop. But in other hand apple expect that you will buy new one every years so they probably don't see a problem in manufacturing cost cuts like this one.

    The SATA Ports in the 2012 MBP are definitely Sata 3 (6Gb/s), even the 2011 Models have Sata 3, I think. And both ports are the same speed, so if the HDD port ist Sata 3, die ODD port is as well. Because of that, I would definitely leave the HDD in it's place, since Apple has done a really good job with the shock mounts in the Unibody MacBooks, whereas the "Superdrive to SSD Adapter", as I shall call it, has basically none.

    I am sure I speak for most, in that if our laptop broke and you fixed it with spare parts, (which offers a massive saving) that you would be more than happy paying something towards those parts. Those spare parts do have value both in monetary terms, and also if something happens on a job in the future, you may just need those parts to get out of a bad situation. I know others have said £10 would have been fair, but again knowing how lost I am without my laptop, id be happy paying more to get it not only fixed, but fixed quickly as you are not waiting on parts to be ordered and delivered. Dont sell yourself short, you are in business and it is ok to make a lil profit lol. I am sure others will say by doing this, the customer will put the word about and you will gain via that reputation, which is great, however you should be charging something, it all adds up.

    Opening a can of worms in a nutshell....

  • @schmutz1g
    @schmutz1g 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Respectfully, I disagree sir. Second hand/savaged parts DO have value. Just because the part is not new, or may have been acquired or salvaged for free or little cost does not negate your time and effort in acquiring said part, testing/verifying said part. In addition, there are situations where a new part may not be available due to age, or locale availability. Never consider your stock or efforts as valueless regardless of its origin or time spent. This is simply not the case IMHB as your experience is an immeasurable resource.

    I am curious. What are a majority of the jobs you deal with in a day? (software issues, hardware, etc) I know you show at least one repair job with us, but what takes up a majority of a typical day? Other than paperwork of course.
    Many of my jobs are one offs cause I do component level repairs on most anything that isn't a cellphone or computer. Sadly a lot of my time gets eaten up looking for specific parts, or research in general. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen 2+ of the same items on my bench in the last 6 years of repairs.

As I'm looking for decent parts to do a AMD build with a 3600x, if I ever send my PS4 for repairs what price would you roughly charge as I think the Disk drive fuses have gone as the drive has no power but keep the great content coming as always stay safe :)
