  • Guide to Mini-Z Auto Scale-like hard body for WLtoys 1/28 K989, K969, etc.
    You need to change the wheelbase to 102mm with included part and use narrow 0mm wheels.
    This makes it look like driving scale model.
    Firelap bodies use the same mounting mechanism as Mini-Z so it will fit
    Mini-Z, Mini-Q, WLtoys and of course iWaver/Firelap cars.
    If you want to buy one, here's the body: bit.ly/2IzNC7v
    The wheels: bit.ly/30ThqD2
    Grip tyres: bit.ly/2v5ulTT
    Drift tyres: bit.ly/2I3a74k
    The car in this video is WLtoys 1/28 chassis.
    You can help supporting this channel by purchasing from Banggood with these afffiliate links.
    The price will be the same, all discounts and promotions are applied as normal.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The part number is K989-30 and it's included with the car. Check the gear bag in the box. You'll see there's a long centre shaft pinion. That's the one.
      If you need a spare you can find it in Aliexpress with a set of 3 for front gear, rear gear for 98mm and rear gear for 102mm wheelbase. www.aliexpress.com/item/32908575187.html
      Or search around with the "K989 parts" and you might find a cheaper shop.

    Can u try to put shorter body from mini z to k989? Like lancia delta or ae86 body? Cant wait to watch it

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really difficult because shorter bodies from Mini-Z are mostly narrow. Also re-working the wheel arches is a nightmare and also I'd have to make over fender and I'm not a good modeller so I've never successfully made one.
      I've seen people doing it though but they are much better modeller than I am.

    Do pretty much any 1/28 scale body fit in terms of wheel base and width?

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most of 98mm wheelbase body will fit because they are wide. 102mm from Mini-Z are LMP cars so they won't.
      I have compiled a list of compatible bodies and wheel offsets for K989/K969 here. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1v2sVg072T2Xl4tvEEy_E7kiDdmen-gRIWWm-pIp1VXY/edit#gid=0

    Would this work in reverse? My girlfriend really loves Mini Coopers and WLtoys has a body but I would want to use a MiniZ Chassis

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it will also work. However Mini Cooper is 102mm wheelbase so it will only work with MR02/MR03 with LM motor mount.
      For AWD MA-020/MA-030 it will need some modifications to extend the chassis to 102mm.

    • @BeaversHobby

      Yes, make a new chassis plate and centre shaft if you want to keep it 4WD otherwise just make new chassis plate and it'll work as RWD. However 90mm bodies are narrow so I don't know how well it would work with K989. Basically choose one that need 1.5 or 2mm offset then it'll fit.

    • @BeaversHobby
      @BeaversHobby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say choose the car according to the body you like.
      They are the same car, same chassis with different body, differential & tyres.
      K969 is labelled as drift car because it comes with solid axles (permanently locked diffs) and drift tyres. So choose this and you don't have to buy anything else to drift. It's not optimal but it'll slide.
      K989 is rally/touring because it comes with open gear diff and grip tyres.
      However open diff can be locked but solid axle can't be opened and stock drift tyres are not good so I suggest you upgrade them with Mini-Z wheels and tyres anyway for both touring and drifting.
      If you choose K989 you will get more settings like front open diff and rear locked diff while K969 can't do that. Anyway, for drifting sooner or later you'll replace front diff with one way so your choice between K989 and K969 really comes down the which body do you like.
