Watching people talk about the new Spectrum is actually more interesting than watching about the new Spectrum itself

Similar story for many of us! I'm in the US, so only had the TS1000 (ZX81) and the TS2068 (Speccy).. I owe my IT career to having to learn assembly to get anything out of the Zeddy. I have pretty much all of them now, and waiting for my KS2 Next!

Let me know what was your retro computer? Mine was clearly a Sinclair ZX Spectrum!

You are obviously over the moon to get it, such a nice video. I ordered the board only option from KS1 and fitted it into a case, but decided to go for the full package in KS2. It is a lovely machine and feels like an authentic evolution of the original. It's a bit like owning a convertible car. Buying one makes no sense until you are using it.

Thank you. You’re absolutely right it does feel like an evolution of the original - something which emulators never really achieve on modern computers. Love the convertible analogy - too true.
      All the best, David 👍

It's a beautiful machine (I have KS1 and KS2 on the way). The quality of build right down to the level of quality in the packaging means it could go straight into retail.

It's a great machine isn't it - you can feel the connection back to the original too. All the best, David 👍

My other half wants me to unsubscribe to you!
After out last messages I’ve been up in the loft to get out my old spectrum 48k, it still works and I’ve been playing jet pack and manic minor!
I thought you’ll love to hear that! 👍😀

Haha - it’s very addictive isn’t it once it gets back in your head - when Rachel took Roxy out this afternoon, I played Manic Miner and Hunchback 😀 I even remembered the code for Manic Miner (6031769) 😀
Don’t get in too much trouble 👍😀

nice unboxing, i did i hear you right you used to run a Bulitin Board with a +3. Were you able to connect that to a modem?
Im a ROTW backer so haven't received mine yet. In my opinion they should really try to continuously manufacture these computers. Anyhow hope you are having a good speccy christmas ho ho ho

Thank you - yes that’s right - it was connected to the RS232 port and ran with a Datachat 1223 modem I got cheap from Micronet and I modified to do auto answer and ring detect (on the RS232 control lines with a reed relay and opto isolator) - my friend wrote some drivers for it as it was 75/1200 and needed a machine code routine to avoid loosing characters and also to do word wrap etc in Viewdata. Ran it for a couple of years I think - all
      Good fun.
You’re right it would be good if they perpetually manufactured them.
Have a lovely Christmas - all the best, David 👍

I ran a Micron BBS on my Plus with a Prism VTX 5000 modem. Played and wrote for MUD's like Wanderland and Mirrorworld. Looking forward to my Next. Moved across the pond so I'm ROTW now. =/
      Thanks for sharing the unboxing.

Great video - thank you. As others have said you can see your enthusiasm. If you have a chance will be good to see a follow up video after you've explored the Next a little further. We received ours just prior to Christmas and I'm delighted. Really well packaged and presented, and such memories of the original 48k and 128k +2 that I had in the last century. I've been really impressed with every part of it - but especially how the team have captured the essence that is Spectrum. The use of the original menu systems, the fact I can plug and old 9pin joysick in and it works. It feels like an original Spectrum due those behind the design.
Well worth the wait and it has been interesting to explore some of the original games and see how they stand the test of time. I never remembered Horace goes Skiing as being so difficult!

Thank you for the comment, really appreciated. Great suggestion on a follow up and you're absolutely right, I don't remember some of the games being this difficult all those years ago - some of them seem to be as remembered, others much more difficult eh!
It does look very familiar with the menus doesn't it. A great little machine :)
Hope you had a nice Christmas, all the very best, David 👍

Absolutely! That's amazing to still have them! The old Thermal Printer, those were the days - love the sparks and the smell from it when printing too. David :)

Something magical about them isn’t there. It’s been a long wait for this one, missed the first one - there’s something great about not using an emulator on the computer too!
Looking forward to having a proper explore!
      David 😀

They do look nice, and the concept is intriguing. It's a bit like a modern day SAM Coupe. I hope you really enjoy it. Whilst I understand that economies of scale come in to play, I still think they're massively overpriced. Like the SAM Coupe back in the day, there's no historical precedent for the extra capabilities, and not a lot of software that takes advantage of them anyway. Like all of it's 8 bit contemporaries, it ran it's course and was superceded by newer tech... real hardware like the Amiga, Archimedes and Atari ST. Once you start adding fantasy hardware to a Speccy, it might as well become a modern PC or Mac. Or Sinclair QL. 😉

It's an interesting concept of things being recreated - I think. they did a very good job as you can feel the connection back to the original (if you forget the fact of what's inside and what's running on it) - took me back! Reminds me how hard you had to work in those days. All the very best, David 👍
