As a customer, I don't like the Funko's strategy of selling unmouthed and mouthed version separately because we clearly see Funko is trying to make profit. But it's understandable in a business perspective. I might end up getting the mouthed version, too. As a OP fan, I think the fans should just learn to compromise - this world itself is not 100% ideal for everyone.
I think only westerners like funko pops, the rest of us buy the premium Bandai actual figurines for One Piece or other brands that makes it looks like the actual character with better smile and facial expressions. Not a fan of bobble heads, exception would be if they ever accurately make G5 Luffy big head trying to chomp on Lucci X'D but so far I've seen they can't even make the laugh teeth set correctly so nah
Picked up this version last week, they’re not even on the Funko Europe site here in the UK yet but I assume my forbidden planet got a bunch of stock from GameStop and then switched the stickers to the funko exclusive. Every time I look at it, I just smile, one of the best pops I own now
Honestly though, if people think the first Gear 5 pop looks better than they should just go for that one. Honestly this pop would not have worked AT ALL without the details they gave it. (I mean, I thought the mouth was a tiny bit off as well looking at those shots from yesterday, and the Funko Eyes are questionable, even if in style, but looking at it as a whole, together, away on a shelf, it looks amazing! (in my opinion))
I like the new one, yes we can always a better pop with some other detail but we honestly got what we wanted at mouth. So I’m happy. I personally agree Aussie collectibles are good company from bought from them twice here in the us and they delivered quick and well protected
I really like the “King of Artist” Gear 5 Luffy figure. It brings me joy just looking at it as it captures the exact pose and demeanor in the manga/anime. I’m torn whether or not I should keep my preorder for this Gear 5 pop.

5:55 Not about this specific POP, but you're totally right about seeing POPs in person. The 3D sizing and depth that goes on with the POP window boxes, really really improves basically every figure from the initial impression you get just seeing photos online, both the glam renders and actual photos... in your hand they're always much cuter. The only exception I would say is certain pops that are forced to use the full 2-piece plastic inserts (Fishing Gon, JUMBOs, Campaign Eddie, Angel Kronk, just from the ones I see in front of me), where those basically need to be out of box to look their best, so that the main focal point of their face isn't covered in extra details/shadow/reflection from the plastic.

All the reasons you listed are reasonable. IMO, for those who wanted Gear 5 Luffy with smile, have to pay twice the price (For both the first and Gamestop release). And since both pops are similar, it would be hard for people to get rid of the first one. I personally plan to get Gear 5 Luffy but after factoring in the stand, I might hold off for a bit until I see some reviews. QOTD: Zoro. Because he's loyal and trustworthy. Also he looks cool and love his personality as well.
Honestly I love the new design! I just didn't post saying so, but I pre-ordered right away. First time I've done that as a Pop collector. That said, this was _THE_ Pop pose I wanted the most since the beginning... now if they want to do a Giant Gear 5 Luffy grabbing the lightning, where we can pose it looking down on Dragon Kaido... then... (Also, I got so many favorite One Piece characters, I don't even want to bother answering. It's the obvious ones people probably mention: Luffy, Nami, Ussop, Chopper, Zoro, Sanji, Robin, Franky, Jinbei, Brook (basically all the straw hats), Law, Aokiji, Kidd, Kizaru, Kuma, Buggy, Momo, Bart, Cavendish, Bepo, Yamato, Carrot, Pedro, basically every character that is a Super Nova, Warlord, even some marines now, oh yeah, Kaku and Lucci, Katakuri...)
I personally think it looks awesome even with the small flaws. I think funko delivered on this one. Majority of the people complaining are definitely the ones who bought the chase for resell price because of FOMO.
I originally didn't find a chase of the first one. Was ok with the regular one. Then my guy at gamestop had a chase for me. With rewards and junk, cost me 3 bucks. I still think this one looks sick and I still pre-ordered it immediately. Lol
If the 3D render is 10/10. The actual product is barely 6/10, that's the main issue. It's not that is bad, it's just dissapointing. On the other side, the previous mold was 8/10 on the 3D render but the actual product still 8/10🤷🏻♂️

I feel like that photo is super unflattering. Even the colors are off since his purple belt is not that dark. Distrackers posted a 360 view of the pop out of box and it looks so good
The other examples are better because they have slightly more depth to the mouth. The issue is the tongue and teeth are placed almost flat in the mouth, depth would’ve made for an awesome Pop.

To answer your question about stores to go to: There’s a shop in west Melbourne Florida, called famous faces and funny’s, they are really nice and they have comics, anime statues, manga, mostly funkos and they also have cards events, they can also put things on hold for a couple days but overall it’s a great store and I always go there with my father.

Tbh I ordered the original Gear 5 only ordered two from EE and luckily got the chase wasn't going to be mad or buy chase since it doesn't look any different than common other than glow. When I saw this new Gear 5 this is what I imagined the chase to look like if not this is what we should've gotten in the first place.

The “red eyes” is such a buzzword type of deal. Funko always does anime accurate, and his eyes are pink/purple in the anime 💀
