    Luke, I’m glad to see this video taking off for you. Been following you since subs were in double digits. My only recommendation you need to do long form horizontally. Otherwise keep up the grind. See what’s working and try to rinse and repeat. I think how to videos long form would do well for you.

    Great job! I made a few pontoon freshwater repairs. Usually, start off with a crack and end up with a quarter size hole. This is when someone comes along to take the forklift. Lol

      I wouldnt recommend it, as the structural integrity on pontoons is so critical. Tig welding gets better weld penetration.

    • @michaelbigelow367
      @michaelbigelow367 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LukeTheWelder ok yes tig has the capability to have the best penatration of all processes if done by a good tig welder. Thank you.

    Do they have pressure and vacuum gauges on the consoles of pontoon boats.

    Luke imagine cleaning a viscous mastic off of a "customer repair" on a tune. I used a spoolgun on an Everlast with 4043 wire, years and years ago to repair the tune. The cleaning took way way longer than the repair.

    Aluminum is a nightmare to work with compared to other materials. So much prep goes into getting that stuff to stick together.😮‍💨

    I respect the hustle, but I'm surprised you don't have more comments.
    For one, I was surprised when you said you think the grinder guards are dangerous, and then got underneath an unsupported boat to work on it.
    I thought you were going to be a kid. You're old enough to know that the danger of not using a guard and getting underneath unsupported overhead loads is not worth the risk.
    Stay safe, man. Getting hurt or killed isn't worth it.

    • @TehButterflyEffect
      @TehButterflyEffect 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, anyone who criticizes those welds has obviously never welded dirty aluminum before. Those were perfect.

    • @LukeTheWelder
      @LukeTheWelder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thamks brother! I do know the risks, and i certainly was aware of the risks of being under the boat (great observation by the way).
      I had a back up plan. I just didn’t mention anything about that in my video.
      And yes, I can only be as good as the base material. I’m working with, that’s kind of a motto of my and it’s absolutely 100% true. Had that aluminum bin brand new and never submerged in salt water. The welds would’ve definitely turned out much better, but that’s just the nature of the industry.
      I just have to work with what I’m given! Appreciate the comment dude!

    • @TehButterflyEffect
      @TehButterflyEffect 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LukeTheWelder I can't criticize your welds because my welds on clean aluminum end up looking like your overhead dirty aluminum welds.
      I hate aluminum.
      I like your setup though.

    Very informative video. Didn’t know about bump welding but I’m new to this and looking to get my first machine and be somewhere self taught with online resources and just torch time ! But my question for you is which welder would you recommend? Prime weld or and everlast 200dv ? I hope the 200 would work but if not the 210. The 210 is pricey for my budget, my goal mainly is to learn to do thin tig on Jon boats! Any advise on this would be great! Thanks

    • @LukeTheWelder
      @LukeTheWelder  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Thank you so much for watching. I really appreciate it!
      As far as the machine recommendation, I honestly can only speak for Everlast, because that’s pretty much the majority of the machines that I own, and I will say that they are a great company, they usually have pretty good warranties and stuff. But my biggest recommendation is that you save up and get the machine that you know you want so you only have to buy the machine once, and not buy a lesser one and then a more expensive one later and spend more money in the long run.
      I recommend getting a machine that can do up to 220 Amps maximum need it if you get into a situation where you need to weld up to a quarter inch thick. Otherwise you will need to preheat the material to get up to that heat.
      😎🤙

      @ Okay I’m definitely gonna get an Everlast then ! If you can use them in a professional environment and they last well then for me as a hobby will work great ! I’m looking at the 210ext or the 200dv by everlast. just need to pick between that now ! For thin boats with your knowledge which would you pick. With the price difference being significant? But either way I look forward to more welding videos. I subscribed !

    Any idea what caused these cracks in the first place? It didn't appear that the toons had impacted anything. Was this just poor welding from the factory?

    • @LukeTheWelder
      @LukeTheWelder  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be completely honest, I’m not exactly sure, the cracks were in the same exact spot across all three tunes right in the middle of the boat, which leads me to believe that either they came up on a really tall wave and came smashing down after hitting the wave, or they hit something. I never really found out

      The only thing I used on that job on the angle grinder was a wire wheel and a cut off wheel. I think if you would’ve continued watching you would’ve seen that. But no worries I completely understand from your perspective. It might’ve been hard to tell.

      They have grinding discs for aluminum.
      I use the Rexcut Sigma Green. Go light with them they remove materia quickly, and the disc wear some what quickly so bring a few extras, but they work like magic.
      Nice job.
