Mz. Phatbaldkat How a momma possum got into the closet is one of the mysteries of life! I LOVE possums and have several in my backyard, and they are all different ages and sizes. I have a small wilderness in my backyard, and the possums are vigilant in keeping rats, mice, and insects away, or they get eaten! Possums can climb and smell a rat or mice nest, and eat them...they are scavengers, too and eat banana peels, and leftovers that are no longer edible by humans. They don’t carry rabies because their body temperature is too low... I am saddened that many ignorant people here in America, when they see a possum, will think that it is a cat sized rat, and out of fear will attack the poor possum! They have the most teeth of any mammal, and they don’t hesitate to his show their teeth. But they are, for the most part, very passive animals, and would rather play dead than to try and bite somebody... did you make cute pets, but their lifespan is only about four years, and that leads to the heartbreak of their passing into the hereafter.

Another fact about opossums is that they can use their tails to hang, but not very long because of their weight. So, it's false that opossums sleep hanging upside down with their tails. Possums are unlikely to carry rabies! They foam out of their mouth so they come off as an animal that carries it, to show other animals they have it and even humans, so humans and animals will stay away! Pretty cool right? They really aren't pests either. If you have one in your back yard, it's a GOOD sign! They eat cockroaches, snails and other pests! Oh, man, baby possums sure can hang on. One evening i looked out the window to the back porch and saw little hands and feet of the baby possums that were hanging on from under Mama Possum. Pretty cute.
supersonicstep they are like Nature’s vacuum cleaners. Their gastric system can tolerate more “rancid” (ewe) states of carcasses and are able to eat to the remains of animals that other scavengers (like raccoons) would not. They’re most valuable task is eating ticks. They can smell, seek and devour hundreds of ticks a day. They’re such helpful creatures and seriously aren’t the nuisances people make them out to be; just unattractive. I think it’s so cute how their babies ride on their backs.

@@kingonduty2825 A bit of a psychopath aren't you? That's how Jeffrey Dahmer started out, you're in good company. Yeah, someone I worked with was so ignorant when finding one in her home. They chased the little possum off over a balcony. Turns out there was a whole nest in there and they chased out the mother and found a dead baby sometime later. Sheer human ignorance.
She was a good dog. The best, I mean who couldn’t like her but one day she got sick and she was like that for so long and she was hurt so we had to put her down 😞 that was 3 months ago
mike zoyhofski like heck, man! They absolutely do bite. We live in an area with no wildlife rescues, so if something happens we save them ourselves. The babies bite HARD so I can’t even imagine what it feels like to be bit by the mother! We raised a pack of babies after we saw them on the side of the road on their dead mother who had been hit (not by us). If you have to get a hand near enough to them, they do bite out of fear. Needless to say, they had to be fed. So my hands had to be near them 😬. Needle-y little teeth on those babies, good bite pressure too. It felt like being bitten by one of those small yappy dogs, but these were far smaller but bit every bit as hard. They calmed down eventually but those first three days were painful ones even with gloves on. They didn’t understand that we were trying to help them. They swayed back and forth trying to look intimidating and hissing the whole time. Every time I reached for one to give it a bottle, it nailed me 😂
@@macylouwho1187 I think they where talking about if you encounter a wild possum it will hiss and try to intimidate but will almost always flee before trying to bite you or start a conflict, which having had possums in my barn i can say is pretty true, that being said yes if you picked a possum up off the ground i'm sure it would bite you just like those baby possums did 😂 most wild animals would

That was awesome!!! Mama is pretty tame considering she had all those babies with her! Hopefully she finds a good place to call home!!! Thank you for sharing, hugs and kisses to all!
Possums are not aggressive nor violent. A chicken is more dangerous than a possum and I am serious.
Never seen a possum up close before, I live in bc, Canada and I don't believe we have them here! They are cute though. Thanks for your comment!

The video shows the route. It came in with the door open to find a warm place for her litter to sleep. Babies rode on the back no doubt.

Oh, I love opossums! They are so beneficial to the environment; they’re the underdogs of wildlife. Bless this lady for helping that mama!
How do they benefit the enviroment? Just curious.
supersonicstep they are like Nature’s vacuum cleaners.
They eat ticks, that's awesome! I'm a farmer, and I always thought it was best to get rid of them, but if they eat ticks, I may have to change my mind. :)
My cats brought a baby possom in my house and I kept him for 4 months and a perfect guest he was. So tame and sweet and he played with my cats and ate with them

@@kingonduty2825 i bet you want to watch the world burn
@@kingonduty2825 A bit of a psychopath aren't you? That's how Jeffrey Dahmer started out, you're in good company. They are not a threat, for rabies or other diseases, and play dead as a defense mechanism. They will not attack, and ingest hundreds of ticks as part of their diet. Actually a positive for the environment. I wouldn't want one for a pet, they are wild animals, but I love all animals and the babies are always cute. They lunge but they don’t bite it’s very rare for them to attack
mike zoyhofski like heck, man! Every time I reached for one to give it a bottle, it nailed me 😂
yup many animals who are harmless have scary calls
@@macylouwho1187 I think they where talking about if you encounter a wild possum it will hiss and try to intimidate but will almost always flee before trying to bite you or start a conflict, which having had possums in my barn i can say is pretty true, that being said yes if you picked a possum up off the ground i'm sure it would bite you just like those baby possums did 😂 most wild animals would
They pretend to be as nasty and viscous as possible, but they're just acting it just like how they pretend to be dead. They're really just way more scared of people than we are to them
@@macylouwho1187 lol, right? why do people need to pretend nature is Disneyland to warrant protection? Of course that thing will bite you, look at it! Common sense! Possoms will also play dead if you really get ahold of it, which is pretty funny.
