Also it’s a shame that such a good video and drummer is marred by these old comments. Look into Parks’s career. It’s insane. I’m confident in saying he is one of the best drummers alive. Not only is he extremely skilled, but he is philosophically innovative as well.
all i know is this show was great & i was glad to be right out in front of my old fellow El Pasoan, Omar, for a great performance @ such a small venue. the same one my band plays. and people are stupid
@bzcrouse92 Your grammar is impeccable. Also I think they sounded "right" before they had Pridgen on the drums, and now that they have Deantoni they still sound "right"
@KxKWarriorV Rumours have been a spreadin that they're playing new volta material under the ORL name because of copyright issues with warner Bros. so until the album comes out. Also Ikeys not there and it's not really The Mars Volta without Ikey
@trenken The previous guy didn't know how to play with restraint. I have played drums for 14 years. My favorite drummers are Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, and Tony Williams (before he switched to the big set). Who are yours? Deantoni's been in the band before, for what it's worth. I doubt he was all they could find. I'd been hoping for years that he'd play with them again. Have you listened to Astroid Power Up yet?
@trenken Deantoni is sick. Just because he doesn't play how you would expect a "good drummer" to play doesn't mean he isn't amazing. Your concept of music is majorly up tight, man.
Dude if you hear Zach Hill play in the pocket and groove he is insane! I would love to hear him play a Mars Volta beat as chaotic as they seem Jon Theodore made them groove and gave even the most syncopated drum beats a pocket.
@kalvo17 This is TMV genius. They arent allowed to tour under the TMV name right now because they dont own it, but this is TMV playing new songs from their upcoming album.
@trenken his drumming is remarkably tight and I think your confusing technical proficiency with taste. Theodore and Pridgen had vastly different styles. Also, I'm sure he dicks on your drumming so stop the "I'm a drummer, I know" bullshit. Because I'm a drummer... and I know.
@elporto He's actually sloppy at times and often has timing issues. He does some interesting things, but I can name a hell of lot more drummers that are a lot better than him, 2 of which already played in this band.
@pjustusxi I have heard them. It's just electronica shit, and he constantly does that annoying stop/start bullshit he's been doing in the new volta songs, I cant stand that style. Pridgen is not my favorite drummer, I just think he's significantly better than Parks. My all time fav would have to be Neil Peart due to his very creative and appropriate fill work. Unlike Parks, his fills have great flow to them, they dont feel shoehorned into what he's doing.
I’m a drummer of many years. Actually pretty big especially in the jazz scene. This drummer is good. May your comment serve as a museum of your arrogance.
I've never heard a Live sound source with such good sound quality on The Mars Volta.
I forgot how nice this sounds
Badass Cedric is so badass!1
Great song indeed
cedric bixler zavala is my favorite singeR
@yomeportobien As long as the message was clear. His name is Deantoni Parks and he's a remarkably tight drummer.
wow i should really buy some omar rodriguez albums too..
Also it’s a shame that such a good video and drummer is marred by these old comments. Look into Parks’s career. It’s insane. I’m confident in saying he is one of the best drummers alive. Not only is he extremely skilled, but he is philosophically innovative as well.
yeah this is a showcase for him for sure, his style is so suited to the sleeker TMV sound!
all i know is this show was great & i was glad to be right out in front of my old fellow El Pasoan, Omar, for a great performance @ such a small venue. the same one my band plays. and people are stupid
clean video
I was at this show. Great night
they cut the song out at the 2nd best part :O
Probably cuz cedric botched the falsetto at the end. Seen vids of him failing that part pretty hard. Also whats the best part?
They never come to San Antonio Texas :(
@elporto yep seen him a couple times and he is pretty ridiculous
That's some hot latin punk rock jazz shit!
@bzcrouse92 Your grammar is impeccable. Also I think they sounded "right" before they had Pridgen on the drums, and now that they have Deantoni they still sound "right"
that sound guy better do a better job for them than he did for us. of course they are the mars volta
Goddamnit, why is this so short? What a shame.. That was sick!
@SKEvil It's called Molochwalker, smarty pants.
@KxKWarriorV sort of, omar considers all of his work almost one in the same, despite what its called
@KxKWarriorV Rumours have been a spreadin that they're playing new volta material under the ORL name because of copyright issues with warner Bros. so until the album comes out. Also Ikeys not there and it's not really The Mars Volta without Ikey
alright lets go lets do somethin
@trenken The previous guy didn't know how to play with restraint. I have played drums for 14 years. My favorite drummers are Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, and Tony Williams (before he switched to the big set). Who are yours?

Have you listened to Astroid Power Up yet?
@trenken hahaha i knew you were trolling as soon as you said neil peart was your favorite drummer. well played, my friend
Its music! This isnt jock bullshit highlights! There is no such thing as better, just different. Embrace it!
@trenken Deantoni is sick. Just because he doesn't play how you would expect a "good drummer" to play doesn't mean he isn't amazing. Your concept of music is majorly up tight, man.
It's weird seeing Cedric without his signature hairstyle
Is this what I think it is, foil sealed? :)
@trenken besides, zach hill has a pretty loose technique, especially on face tat but it doesn't mean he isn't remarkable.
Dude if you hear Zach Hill play in the pocket and groove he is insane! I would love to hear him play a Mars Volta beat as chaotic as they seem Jon Theodore made them groove and gave even the most syncopated drum beats a pocket.
0:35 "bunch a stinkin cockaroaches" ....reminds me of scarface for some reason
2:14 LSD!!! do it!
@trenken Are you kidding me? Even John Bonham played things like this sometimes. Are you going to say he was sloppy?
@kalvo17 This is TMV genius. They arent allowed to tour under the TMV name right now because they dont own it, but this is TMV playing new songs from their upcoming album.
so is this actually the mars volta or just the omar rodriguez lopez group?
@bzcrouse92 you are aware that thomas was their 4th drummer right?
there are plenty of songs that TP didnt play right: cicatriz, eunuch, etc
@trenken his drumming is remarkably tight and I think your confusing technical proficiency with taste. Theodore and Pridgen had vastly different styles. Also, I'm sure he dicks on your drumming so stop the "I'm a drummer, I know" bullshit. Because I'm a drummer... and I know.
2:56 lol I never noticed D fucks up here
It’s still in time
@trenken again I see you. Dude do something else besides commenting on every mars volta you can find lol
This is not The Mars Volta. It is The Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group.
Pre-molar with post-core. Ahaha
the drummer is a good player, but i dont like how his drumkit sound. Anyway, i can't wait this two more weeks to see them here in PR.
This has no soul. It does NOT swing at all!!! Sad day.
@elporto He's actually sloppy at times and often has timing issues. He does some interesting things, but I can name a hell of lot more drummers that are a lot better than him, 2 of which already played in this band.
get off your high horse. “sloppy” lol
They sound like they're kind of doing a straight forward rock thing now. It's not even really hard rock and definitely nothing prog about this at all.
@M4j3h Do you play drums? I didnt think so. No good drummer can say this guy is great. He is very sloppy.
