Let me know what you think of this brother-sister duo and their fellow band members 🎵And then you can check out this reaction next th-cam.com/video/FPeakBa3zeM/w-d-xo.html
I absolutely love Lawrence. Their huge sound, incredible musicality, energy and pure joy. They've become my favorite band playing today. Thanks for reacting to them.
Welcome to the @Lawrencetheband rabbit hole, they are amazing and have many great performances especially their Acoustic-ish releases! Don't Lose Sight, 23, I'm confident i'm insecure and so many more!
Oh hell yeah. So glad I was on a Lawrence kick today (my go to pick me up and kick some ass group) and the algorithm served up your beautiful analysis- commenting early, liking, subscribing to boost your channel- keep up the good work! 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
Lawrence is amazing. Their acoustic live versions of their songs are some of my favorites. Incredible live in concert as well. Really enjoyed and appreciated your analysis and education. Insightful and great reaction. Thank you!
Welcome to the family business! Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are siblings that front an 8 member band out of NY. All the other band members have been friends they have picked up growing up, from middle school all the way through Clyde's time in college. Gracie joined full time after HS and they are on album #4 (the second under Bellion's label). A few weeks back they performed on the Tonight Show (This same song), they've opened for the Jonas Brothers this last year and just a few months ago, opened for the Rolling Stones in NY. They have been featured on Jacob Collier's latest album, and Gracie is featured on Meghan Trainor's latest album (Crushin'). They just started the US leg of their headline tour and will most certainly be in your neck of the woods. As much fun as the songs are, they really really shine live. They do not use any backing tracks, and everyone in the band is multi talented. The Acoustic-ish versions of the songs are a pretty decent example of the live feeling, but these sessions involve singing with a group of backup vocalists that are not normally part of the normal show. Still, fire sessions every time. You could easily just spiral down the rabbit hole with all of their stuff. More Gracie: 23, Freckles, The Weather More Clyde: Guy I used to be, False Alarms, Casualty More both: The Heartburn Song, Superficial, It's not all about you, Hip Replacement
I’m truly obsessed with Lawrence and got to seen them a couple of years ago in London and they are just as good live! So when I clicked on this video that was recommended to me, I thought it was gonna be another reaction like I’ve seen before but I absolutely loved your theory analysis! It was fascinating seeing the chord break downs etc! I’d love to see some more Lawrence videos on this channel!
Wow! Loved it! Full of groove and energy. I’m getting Joe Cocker’s Feelin Alright vibes but at a faster tempo. It’s great to see everybody getting a little moment. Brass is always punchy and congas keep that rhythm so awake. Lot of people, lot of talent. Didn’t know them. Thank you. 🤗
Instant subscription. I love Lawrence and seeing people react to them for the first time, but your combination of reacting to both the performance and the music theory is among my favorite I’ve seen. Cheers from a fellow musician!
What a surprise! I found you through Voiceplay, home free and Avi Kaplan and have been watching your analyses of their music for a few months now. I discovered Lawrence about a week or so ago and now here they are! Would absolutely love to see more of them on the channel, all their acoustic-ish videos I’ve seen are brilliant. Cracking breakdown
Fantastic reaction and analysis; I've watched many reactions to them and yours is in my top 3 for sure! You picked up on so many musical details so quickly, you're clearly very versed and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us :D Lawrence has other acoustic & acoustic-ish performances such as "Don't Lose Sight" and "I'm Confident That I'm Insecure" that are must-watches, would love to see your reaction and hear your analysis of them - Cheers!
Fun Fact: At age 6, Clyde became the youngest ever member of the Songwriters Guild of America , for a song he wrote for the Movie Miss Congeniality. His dad was the co-screenwriter and the producers axed the planned song. Clydes dad slipped his son's own song in and they loved it.
I love Lawrence! I'm so glad to see them here! Hoping to see more, like Don't Lose Sight acoustic version. Also Alibi - great song with laugh out loud video.
There’s no doubt that the lead singer & pianist are exceptionally talented. I found the performance chaotic and mesmerizing simultaneously. If not for your analysis, I would have been lost.
This was new to me and, man, it was intense! I guess I could easily vibe with their insane energy in a party after one or two drinks😄It’s nice that you were wearing a funky shirt very suitable to join the party✌Thanks for the introduction and great analysis, Sir H!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 uhhh .... Hotttttt !! That's hot. I think I could shake my money maker for about 3 hours at a live show of Lawrence. Outstanding vibe , with talented musicians and fly singers. Nice discovery Sir Hairless. 🐑🎼👹🎼🐑🎼👹🎼🐑🎼👹
Welcome to Lawrenceville! All of the recommendations for ‘acoustic-ish’ tracks are great. ‘Don’t Lose Sight’ is at times straight up gospel, showing off Gracie’s amazing voice, and Clydes creative arrangements. It will inspire anyone. Clyde, by the way was the youngest ever member of the Songwriters’ Guild of America when he was inducted at the age of 5!
This is a cross between funk ,soul ,early 70's music and even jazz and Janice Joplin. I like it! You are just shy of 40,000. That's pretty awesome since when I started watching you , you were just short of 10,000. Well done you!!!!🫶🏻 ❤R/A🎼
Damn, I didn’t knock you out of your chair this time!⚡️🎶 🪑🎸 Next time! 😉🙃 This was fun! Made me want to jump up & start dancing at the office! I appreciate the break-down & analysis. This felt a little chaotic to me when I saw it … awesome! … super funky, catchy & cool! …. But also chaotic. Your analyses are grounding for music appreciation. 👏🏻😁
Nothing wrong with jumping and dancing around in the office 💃 Thanks for the suggestion! (Haha I think we should put the knocked-out-of-chair dream aside as I'd more likely faint before I fall out of the chair 🪑)
I’m here because of the tiktok commercial meme. Tbh I agree with the “it sounds like I’m gonna learn what the target back to school sales are” assessment but I did want to hear from someone who knows their stuff because I do hear talent. I know people say they’re good. So yeah. I wanna know more haha
I would definitely dance to this at a social gathering and have a great time. Not sure I would seek it out for my own listening. Her voice is unique and colorful, but maybe a bit edgy for my preferences. I love the group energy, though! It's a bit like if Voctave tossed off conventions and expectations and just let loose.
I highly recommend you check out their other “acoustic-ish” videos (The Weather, 23, Don’t Lose Sight, and I’m Confident That I’m Insecure are great to start). This is edgier and harder than a lot of their stuff. They all play up Gracie’s incredible power, range, and style, but not all with quite as much intensity as this one.
Thanks for this analysis! Much more thorough than others I have heard. One slight note--the notes you play on your end are tinny and maybe flat? Just a slight note.

I think all of the chords in it are dominant so in funk/blues you can kind of use both the minor and major third. But if you like their arrangement and instrumentation I think "guy I used to be" is a great acoustic-ish session. It really shows off Clyde's piano playing and arranging. It gets really like ray Charles at times
Why do you think people are hating on this so much? Maybe its because I did music for my entire school life but I think it amazing. Lyrics get a little bit repetitive at the end but the sound is *french kiss*
Is there a reason you use harmonic instead of natural minor when you’re explaining the G# minor scale? Also, I’m surprised you didn’t mention how Clyde used the relative IV chords of the main motif (G#-C#-G# -> F#-B-F# -> C#-F#-C#) to make it sound like we were changing keys during his solo.
Yes - it's more standard and is the scale people’s ear will be familiar with as it's more commonly used in popular music I try to keep theory to a minimum (as much as possible, which is hard sometimes depending on what point I'm trying to make). This video was already more in-depth than I would’ve liked I get a lot of comments saying to keep things simple, so I try to find a good mix. Most people who watch these videos aren’t musicians and speaking in theory jargon doesn’t make sense
Do you think you could do a follow up vid on how people are absolutely trashing on this song now? I love it but I just don’t understand why people hate it so much
yay! loved this reaction really interesting analysis. but tbh this is my least favorite of the Lawrence acoustic-ish vids. would love to see you do Dont Lose Sight acoustic by them :)
Music that is in a new style to you often sounds cacophonous. Once you listen to a new style for a while, you are able to pick out and appreciate the elements a lot more. This has been true for me when listening to Western classical music, funk music, and West African music, for example.

Your eyes are so beautiful!! Also they opened for the Jonas brothers Concert in America, so that's how I found them!
What a lot of funky fun - reminds me of Scary Pockets, and that's a good thing
Have you seen Lawrence with Scary Pockets? I love Scary Pockets, too.
Might search for a video titled "Me and Julio // Paul Simon // POMPLAMOOSE ft. Lawrence"
Also "deja vu | Olivia Rodrigo | funk cover ft. Lawrence"
Oh, thank you. Didn't know that one but I know I will, like Paul Simon, Pomplamoose and Lawrence.

Funny you mentioned the Beach Boys, Linus Lawrence's band The Stowaways do Beach Boy covers.

Tonight's the night...Lawrence live in Fort Lauderdale!!!
You’ve gotta see the clip of Jacob Collier turning Lawrence’s audience into a choir and then they all sing Let It Be
